Roshan-Tated_pic1. Speed and Accuracy-IIFT exam checks for speed as well as accuracy. Time per question in IIFT exam is significantly shorter than that in other management exams. So it becomes vital to develop a good speed to attempt all the questions within the time frame.

Roshan Tated cracked IIFT with a score of 64.34. He believes in knowing all about the exam first and later developing a strategy accordingly. On developing speed he says, “To increase speed, solve previous years IIFT papers within the time limit. I analyzed my mistakes and corrected them”.

Another topper, Anjali Mirchandani supports by saying,Cracking IIFT is all about investing your time judiciously and keeping a check on accuracy simultaneously”.

Satyaki-Mascharak_pic2. Mock Tests- There is no fact denying that practicing as many Mock tests as you can, can lead you towards your dream B-school. Mock Tests prepares you for the exam in the most appropriate manner. They provide insight about the actual exam and let you know about the type of questions to be covered in the exam.

Satyaki Mascharak cracked IIFT with a score of 51. He suggests, “The regular Mocks are like doubt clearing sessions, which helps every aspirant. They actually give a pull which is required to motivate a person”.

Another Topper, Sahil Shirbate explains the importance of Mock tests. He says,Solve previous year’s question papers in the weeks before the exam. It gives a fair idea of the pattern of the exam and enough time to adjust your strategy accordingly. It is very important to have a fair idea about what type of questions are covered in the exam and practice those questions with a dedication”.

3. Time Management- Following a key strategy for IIFT exam, Nilkancha Badhiye shares “Start preparing for IIFT 5-6 months prior the exam. Time management should be the focus, along with improvise on your speed. The only strategy to be followed is the best management of Time”.

Candidates must need to manage their time well. The statement might be clichéd but it is all the more true for every aspirant.

4. Sectional Preparation Tips:

As per the exam pattern of IIFT 2015, the test will be of objective type conducted in paper pencil format. The mode of the test will be English with a time limit of two hours. The exam will be divided into three sections of 200 questions to be answered by the students. The sections of the exam will be English Comprehension, General Knowledge and Awareness and Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Analysis.

Your preparation plan needs to have section wise preparation strategy, which will guide you on how to attempt each section of the test.

  • General Knowledge and Awareness- One of the most important sections in IIFT is General Knowledge- GK. Sunny Pandey, an IIFT Topper provides insights about the GK section. “Brush up on Current Affairs and Static GK before the exam as it’s important to be strong in the GK section if you want to crack IIFT. Pick up Manorama’s Yearbook and read it for around 15 days. For current affairs rely on newspapers.” he says.

For General Awareness, keep yourself updated about current events through newspapers, general knowledge books and news. The focus should be on business and trade related GK, as it is mostly covered in the IIFT exam.

Anjali-Mirchandani_picAdding to GK preparation, Roshan says, “Divide your preparation for General Awareness section in two parts-Static GK and Dynamic GK. For static GK you can refer to any good GK book. To improve your dynamic GK current affairs keep yourself abreast of all the important news on a daily basis”.

  • Logical Reading and Quantitative Analysis- The key to score in this section lies in your reading speed. Reading newspaper editorial will serve two purposes- first they help you to solve analytical RC’s, and another they improve your reading speed, suggests Anjali.

  • English Comprehension- Sunny, for preparation onEnglish Comprehensive suggests to read articles on internet and write a concise summary. This will help in identifying the main idea and structure of the article. Take feedback from other students as well. It will allow you to discard any other information which is not necessary.

Also, the previous year’s papers along with coaching study material and mock tests combined gives an exhaustive list of questions to practice for Quantitative Ability, Verbal and Reasoning section.

5. Exam Day Strategy:

The key for Exam Day is tonot to get stuck with difficult questions and wasting time attempting them.

Sahil shares, “Strictly plan to give 15 minutes to GK section and divided the rest of the time accordingly. Also make sure that the time to attempt questions is equally divided among every section of the paper. Start with Verbal as it takes up the least time, then moved on to Quants followed by Reasoning, and try to attempt the maximum questions possible in the time allotted. Leave the most difficult questions for the end”.

Sunny Pandey adds that time should be distributed to each section strategically. Attempt Verbal section in 5 minutes, complete GA and LR by 25 minutes, and then move to Quants and DI. Finish the exam within the set time frame, so as you are left with few minutes of revision as well.

The application for IIFT 2015 starts from July 27 and continues till September 3. The exam is scheduled to be conducted on November 22, 2015 and the result for IIFT 2015 will be declared in the month of December, announcing the names of the students who are shortlisted for further admission procedures.
