1. A car and bus were moving on a road. They were 60 KM apart. After 3 hours, it was found that the car overtook the bus and they it is now 90 away from the bus. The speed of the bus was 45 km/hr. Find the speed of the car.
Solution: Let the speed of the car be $x$ km/hr.
Distance covered by the bus in 3 hours = $45 \times 3 = 135$ km
Distance between car and bus after 3 hours = $90$ km
So, distance covered by car = $135 + 90 - 60 = 165$ km
Speed of the car = $165 / 3 = 55$ km/hr
2. A invested P amount in Compound Interest for 2 years at 12% and B invested P+300 for 3 years. The final amount calculated for both A and B was the same. Find the actual amount.
Solution: Let the principal invested by A be $P$.
Amount for A after 2 years at 12% CI = $P \times (1 + 0.12)^2 = P \times 1.2544$
Amount for B after 3 years at 12% CI = $(P + 300) \times (1 + 0.12)^3 = (P + 300) \times 1.404928$
Equating the amounts: $P \times 1.2544 = (P + 300) \times 1.404928$
$1.2544P = 1.404928P + 421.4784$
$-0.150528P = 421.4784$
$P = 50,000$ Rs
3. To fill a tank, a pipe was opened at 6 PM, another pipe B at 7 AM and a third pipe C at 8 AM. The pipe A takes 10 hours to fill a tank, while B needs 15 hours to fill. C can do the same in 20 hours. The pipe C requires rest after 3 hours. How much time will it take to completely fill the tank?
Solution: Let the tank capacity be 1 unit.
Rate of A = $1/10$ per hour, Rate of B = $1/15$ per hour, Rate of C = $1/20$ per hour
From 6 PM to 7 AM (1 hour): Only A is open = $1/10$
From 7 AM to 8 AM (1 hour): A + B open = $1/10 + 1/15 = 1/6$
From 8 AM onwards: A + B + C open = $1/10 + 1/15 + 1/20 = 13/60$ per hour
C works for 3 hours then rests. After 3 hours of A + B + C: $3 \times 13/60 = 39/60 = 13/20$
Add previous contributions: $1/10 + 1/6 = 8/30 = 4/15 \approx 0.2667$
Total filled: $4/15 + 13/20 = 16/60 + 39/60 = 55/60$
Remaining tank = $1 - 55/60 = 5/60 = 1/12$
Rate without C after rest: A + B = $1/10 + 1/15 = 1/6$
Time to fill remaining = $ (1/12) / (1/6) = 1/2$ hour
Total time = $1 + 1 + 3 + 1/2 = 5\ 5/6$ hours
