Careers360: What kind of infrastructure can students expect at the institute? Please elaborate?
Prof Subhendu Dey: IBA is one of the most beautifully integrated B-School having built-up area of about 3.25 lakh sq. ft. in an 8.5 acre green and serene campus dedicated only for the PGDM program. The campus is equipped with modern facilities aimed at meeting global standards in business education. IBA campus is very green with over 300 trees, and offers a peaceful study environment. This makes the IBA campus an ideal place to ignite new and fresh ideas.
With high speed internet connectivity in the campus, round the clock access to library, 13 specially designed (seminar style and board room style) classrooms along with 3 state-of-the -art auditoriums and in-campus hostels (separate for boys and girls); the institute provides the ambience as well as facilities for students to get a feel of the best learning experience. IBA students are provided access to information on a real time basis. IBA Library has over 12500 books, 9000 titles, 1500 audio-visuals on Business Management, 3500 plus International and National journals, over 80 International and National Magazines and 13 Newspapers. To access the latest research in the field of management, students of IBA get access to seven databases including Delnet - the world’s largest library of e-books with more than 5.97 lakh e-books on
Management and over 41 lakh e-books of other disciplines. These databases provide students access to lakhs of journals, audiobooks, articles, etc.
Careers360: There is a lot of stress that is being made with regard to interaction with the industry as well as companies that recruit. What are the steps being taken by the institute in this direction?
Prof Subhendu Dey: Faculty at IBA is actively engaged in several industry forums and plays a crucial role in inviting senior corporate executives to enhance student learning. At IBA, a dedicated Corporate Relations team headed by a senior member of the faculty works with the student-led Institute Industry Interaction Committee (i3 Committee) to continuously interact with the industry on various areas of engagement. We recognize that recruitment is a mutually beneficial relationship between organizations and business schools. While businesses require talented students from reputable institutions, business schools depend on organizations to place their graduates. Therefore, we continually prepare our students for the industry through a range of activities such as guest lectures, live projects, presentations, industry visits, and workshops. Additionally, we have designed specialized programs that focus on enhancing students' employability and making them corporate-ready. These programs include the Advanced Placement and Training Program (APTP) and the Career and Personality Development Program (CPDP). APTP focuses on preparing students for aptitude tests, group discussions, and interviews. Moreover, it trains them in corporate and email etiquette, thus boosting their confidence and communication skills. Similarly, CPDP imparts life skills and knowledge on communication etiquette, interpersonal interactions, project management, cross-functional management, sustainability, and social enterprise; and runs throughout the six trimesters. One of the major objectives of CPDP is a project called "Kalakshetra," where students work in groups to achieve set goals, and present the results achieved in front of an audience comprising alumni, corporate leaders, and other students. IBA also benefits from its extensive network of alumni, who interact regularly with current students through specially created platforms such as Reflections and Hangout. Through these platforms, experienced alumni share their insights and experiences about setting up their own businesses, working in multiple countries, and the current state of their industries. In conclusion, IBA strives to make its students industry-ready by providing them with an excellent learning environment and preparing them for the challenges of the real world through well-crafted tools.
Careers360: Internships are now mandatory as per AICTE guidelines. Does the institute help students with this? If yes, how?
Prof Subhendu Dey: One of the program objectives of IBA is to see that students are able to apply management concepts and theory learnt in classrooms to practice in the real world, which is why we require PGDM students to complete a 3-month Summer Internship/Project in a reputed organization as part of the program's academic curriculum. This internship is beneficial to students through the practical learning that they receive, and for the organization through the business results that IBA students achieve during their internship. At IBA, we ensure that the Summer Internship process is well-structured, with students reporting their work and achievements to their assigned faculty mentor on a weekly basis. The faculty mentor also keeps in touch with the company mentor to ensure that the student performs optimally and produces significant results. IBA assists students in securing internships with leading companies, and over the years, our students have interned with a wide range of organizations, including ACC LTD, Agrotech Foods Ltd., Ashok Leyland, Aurobindo Pharma, Bajaj Electricals, Bank of India, Bharat Cooking Coal Limited, Bharti Airtel, BHEL, Bhilai Steel Plant, Big 92.7 FM, Blue Star, BMW India, Bokaro Steel Plant, BPCL, Brakes India Ltd., Britania Industries Ltd., Central Coalfields Ltd, Century Plyboards, Citi Bank, Crompton Greaves, Damodar Valley Corporation, DELPHI – TVS, Dr. Reddy's Labs, DSP BlackRock, Escorts Ltd., Essar Steel Ltd., Fortis, Glaxo Smith Kline, Grasim, Ultra Tech Cement, Gujarat Gas Company Ltd., Haier Appliance Ltd., HCL Infosystems, HDFC Bank, Hindustan Petroleum, Hindustan Times, Honeywell Technology Solution, Hyundai Motor, India Today, Indian Express, Indian Overseas Bank, IndusInd Bank Ltd, Infiniti Research, Ingersoll Rand, IOC Ltd., ITC Ltd, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, Minda Industries Ltd, NALCO, Nava Bharat Ventures Ltd, NTPC, O.N.G.C, Ogilvy & Mather, Pantaloon Retail, Parle Biscuits, Pepsico, Philips Electronics, Punjab National Bank, Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd., Redington, Reliance Industries Ltd., Religare Securities, RINL-Vizag Steel Plant, SAB Miller India Ltd, SIEMENS, Standard Chartered- STCI Capital Market, Subros Ltd., Tata Motors, Times of India, Total - Jubilant Group, Toyota Kirloskar, Videocon, and Vodafone.
