IBA Campus Life: When an MBA aspirant enters a B-school, a lot of expectations such as how the environment at the campus would be or will I get a good company during placement or not, etc. are on stake. To answer such questions, Aamir Haroon, a management student from Indus Business Academy (IBA), Bangalore, shares his experience of the two years at the institute. He also shares how to handle questions during placement interviews. Read the complete conversation here.

Careers360: How is the campus life at "IBA"? What's the daily routine? Is it all packed up in a routine or equally divided between fun and study?
Aamir: The campus life at IBA is exactly what an MBA aspirant would need. Indus Business Academy is known for taking its students out of the comfort zone and making them job ready. The daily routine involves classes in two halves, three-hour classes each and the dress code being pure business formals.
The classes go till 5 pm and the rest of the day the students can utilise it for other purposes. There is an equal balance between fun and study which eventually imbibes a culture of managing time.
The best thing about Indus Business Academy is that, it is purely student driven. Each and every fest organised or a conference held is driven by the student backed up by the guidance of the faculty members. This inculcates an attitude to manage things with minimal discrepancy.

Careers360: Does your college organise corporate trips or casual college trips? if yes, share the experience.

Aamir: The college every year organises an International Study trip called the OBSM, where the students are taken abroad to give them exposure to the mechanisms of the industry. The trip fosters a sense of engagement in students and also helps in bringing new thought process to the table.

Careers360: Is there any club or committees at the campus? Are you a part of any club or committee? Share some of the activities and experience.

Aamir: There are various clubs and committees on the campus. We have diversified clubs like Marketing club, finance club, operations club, HR club etc. Committees include placement cell, a cultural committee, and a newsletter committee.

Being a part of the placement cell has offered me a plethora of benefits. The experience is phenomenal. There is late night work which has to be completed, involves a lot of data management etc. Working in this committee has inculcated in me a sense of responsibility and being the face of the whole batch is a very different feeling altogether.

Careers360: Tell us something about your college's cultural fests, business/sports competitions or other activities.
Aamir: Indus Business Academy every year conducts a national level management fest, called Archish, which is famous for its rigorous management rounds as well as the cultural nights where students spend the day and night to prepare it and make it a grand success. Apart from Business Competitions, students get benefitted with a lot of guest lectures from renowned industry speakers and get an overall idea before going to the corporate world.

Careers360: What do you do when you are not studying or not attending the classes?

Aamir: Usually when there are no classes in the routine, I spend my day completing the pending assignments. Also in the evening get together with all my friends in the hostel and enjoy. Being a first timer in a hostel, this experience of spending time is the best time one student can get.

Careers360: There are always normal hangouts and few special hangouts like boys’ secret corridors or the secret corner. What are some such special spots at the campus?

Aamir: Being honest, each and every place on our campus is a special spot. The students make a lot of memories and with the abundant space here, once can sit at any place, be it the grocery, the place near the canteen etc. My special spot is the balcony of the boy’s hostel and will be cherished forever.

Careers360: Tell us something about hostel life? What makes it special from other hostels?
Aamir: Being a first timer in a hostel, I personally feel that hostel life is even better than the school days. Friends come up in rooms and discuss things. One can sit anywhere one wants to inside the hostel. That one element which makes IBA hostel life different from others is its Liveliness.

Careers360: Tell us about the placement process/experience?
Aamir: Well the placement experience here is just like a roller coaster ride. One gets to see lots of ups and down, but then, everyone gets placed at the end of the day. A plethora of emotions flow during a placement day, starting from fear to happy tears, we have seen it all. The support one gets during the results are announced just cannot be expressed. It would actually be a cliché if it’s expressed. The whole batch gathers in the auditorium just to celebrate the victory of their friends and that according to me is Family-like feeling. Priceless!

Careers360: What was the interview experience? What were the questions you were asked and how did you tackle them?
Aamir: I am placed in BATA with the designation of a District Manager. The questions asked were like Go through your profile, Why BATA and why Retail, What is your preferred location, What is Retail, how will you manage in an unknown location, What do you don’t enjoy, etc.
I tackled each and every question by coming up with a story and relating all the questions with my real life experience, be it my work experience in Cognizant, or my live project or even the internship experience. Relating things with examples actually gives an edge and the probability of getting through increases.

Careers360: The new batch will join soon while you will be graduating. What would be your message to the juniors?
Aamir: “The first few months in the campus will throw a lot of issues at you. Don’t lose hope. Remember, everything which happens here makes you stronger and eventually makes your skin thick to handle corporate contingencies. Study well, participate in college events and never ever carry a laid back attitude. Indus Business Academy has given me a lot of positivity and I consider it my Home. I am sure you will do it too. Live each and every moment here, go with the flow because these moments will never come back again”

Is IBA Bangalore good option for pgdm?

Milind Sinha 30th Jun, 2019

Hello Shubham,

Indus business academy is in every sense an adequate option.

Indus Business Academy (IBA), Bengaluru is one of the top MBA colleges in Bengaluru, one of the top 1% colleges in India and one among the only 42 out of more than 5000 colleges in India to receive an International Accreditation by IACBE. World Consulting & Research corporation (WCRC) has certified IBA (process evaluated by KPMG) as one of Asia’s fastest growing Institutes. Media publications like Competition Success Review (CSR), Business India, Dainik Bhaskar among others have consistently ranked IBA amongst the top B-Schools in Bengaluru and India

The subjects under a recognized board are expected by any University. Basically, the subjects which you are asking depends upon the course you want to pursue. Please mention the course for which you are asking. For example if you want to pursue engineering your PCM percentage is counted.

Which college is better for mba(marketing) either kirloskar, harihar or IBA, banglore

Ayush Jain 18th Apr, 2019

Hi Gautam,

As per my Personal Experience I would suggest that you that you should go for IBA bangalore or Pune. Though Bangalore is an IT  hub but there are more opportunity for MBA graduates in Pune.Kirloskar college which that is situated in Harihar (332kms from Bengaluru) & Pune ,but it is 60 kms away from Pune. The College doesnt't have proper faculties, management & Infrastruture and the college se connectivity issue also.In IBA you will get more practical experience that will help you in your placements. In Kirloskar last year highest pkge was 14 lacs that is pretty much high from IBA but 14 lacs was just CTC actual pkge was only 7-8 lacs ( major was from marketing only). So comparing both the colleges I would suggest you to go for IBA Bengaluru.

Should I go for IBA Bangalore for PGDM as i have fees concern and my MAT Feb 2019 score is 89.11 percentile. Please responsd soon.

Akshat Shah 10th Apr, 2019

Indus business academy Is Located in bsnglore

Pgdm fees are Around 8-10 lac.

IBA infrastructure- As far as banglore is concern infrastucture is quite Low on side Compare to other colleges..Canteen is available and food is good

placements- Lowest package is around 3 lac,Highest package is 8 lac is Median package is 4.5 lac per annum which is quite low Compare to fees..Don't expect good ROI..Delloite,burger paint, bata, kpmg, asian paint,IT firms come for placement.

faculty-Faculties are good enough.student to faculty ratio is arpund 20:1. All teacher are experienced in their field and there qualification is also top class and having industry and teaching experienced and all teachers are helpful.

In last i would suvgest that if you don't have any other option then go for it..
