Q. Tell us something about the institute; when it was set up, vision and mission.
A: GNIOT Institute of Management Studies (GIMS) is founded under the aegis of more than two decades old GNIOT Group of institutions. The two-fold vision of the institute is to develop business leaders who have social concerns and create centers of excellence in all domains of management so that our students have cutting-edge knowledge for fostering the business growth of organisations they join. GIMS Greater Noida aims to achieve these vision statements by developing and practicing a highly dynamic outcome-based teaching learning process and by developing an ecosystem for fostering research.
Q. Tell us something about the admission process.
A: The admission process at GIMS follows a robust mechanism. For GIMS admission, the student first has to pass the eligibility barrier as per AICTE norms. Once the student is eligible for admission in the PGDM course, the student has to appear in the GIMS Aptitude Test (GAT), GD and PI. There is a composite score table developed based on academic scores, competitive exam scores, GD and PI. The students are offered GIMS Greater Noida admission as per merit of the composite score table.
Q. What kind of infrastructure can students expect at the institute? Please elaborate.
A: The learning ecosystem of GIMS is supported by modern day infrastructure facilities. Smart classrooms, with digital infrastructure in place, provide a wonderful teaching learning experience. GIMS facilities include a library equipped with e-learning resources along with EBSCO and DELNET accessibility. These e-learning resources help the students in developing research acumen as needed by the industry. The entire campus is equipped with wi-fi facility. Playgrounds, in-campus hostel, recreation facilities, mess & canteen facilities add to the overall campus experience of the student.
Q. There is a lot of stress that is being made with regard to interaction with the industry as well as companies that recruit. What are the steps being taken by the institute in this direction?
A: GIMS provides a minimum of 30 hours of training to each student for honing the communication skills, soft skills and aptitude skills in each term. At the end of the course, a student receives 200 + hours of training for overall development apart from academics. GIMS students are also provided with 5 professional certificates in association with Grant Thornton on the contemporary industry needs under the Skill Augmentation Certification programme. The talk series at GIMS titled as Chanakya talk series and Prabodhan talk series, ensure that the students interact with corporate leaders and managers. The students also receive inputs in the form of various club activities throughout the course in the form of Employability Skill Augmentation Programmes. These activities are aimed to bridge the gap between academia and corporate. The students are also provided with the opportunity to learn with international academic partners during the International Immersion Programme. This year GIMS students have taken 20 hours certification in Global Trade from De-Monforte University Dubai. The students are also allowed to earn six credits via self-directed learning. In this, the student can choose any two of the given components e.g., research paper writing, competition participation and earn six credits.
Q. Internships are now mandatory as per AICTE guidelines. Does the institute help students with this? If yes, how?
A: The internship at GIMS is offered to students in two formats. Through live projects and Summer Internship Programme. The Summer Internship Programme (SIP) is an essential paid/unpaid 8-10 weeks of corporate engagement for each student. The SIP opportunities are provided to each student by the institute itself. Likewise, the live project opportunities of 7-15 days are also provided to the students by the Corporate Resource Center (CRC) itself. We are also determined to incorporate winter internships in our curriculum. These internship programmes provide a student blend of experiential and theoretical learning.
