IIM Shillong has released the admission criteria for the Post Graduate Programme (PGP) batch of 2017-19. After CAT 2016, candidates will be selected in two phases. In the first phase, a short list of candidates would be declared for the Written Ability Test(WAT) and Personal Interview (PI).

In the second phase, a final merit list will be prepared on the basis of which admission to the PGP (2017-19) batch will be offered. The process in each of these phases is described in the following sections.

Shortlist Criteria

The following table brings to you the category wise CAT 2016 cutoff and the past academic records.

Based on the cutoffs mentioned in the above table, IIM Shillong will obtain the number of candidates who would be considered for shortlisting.

The shortlisted candidates will be further segregated into seven Academic Categories (AC) as per their graduation academic disciplines. From each Academic Category a certain percentage of candidates would be shortlisted for WSAT and PI.

The final shortlist would be based on the candidates’ academic background on Bachelor’s Degree and category. The candidates would then be ranked in the decreasing order of their overall CAT percentile.

Hence, the total number of shortlist will be based on the candidates’ overall performance in CAT 2016, the number of seats available, buffer for possible overlap and attendance trends in the past, etc.

Phase 2: Merit Listing for Admission Offer to PGP 2017 Batch

Scores of WSAT and PI will be used along with overall CAT performance for the preparation of the final merit list for admission offer. WSAT and PI scores will be clubbed together. The scores of WSAT and PI and the Overall CAT Absolute Score will be normalised for the preparation of the merit list.

The formula which will be used for preparing the final merit list is given below:

Hence, the weights assigned to the WSAT & PI and CAT 2016 scores are given in the table below:

Sampriti Student Expert 15th Jan, 2020
Being a fresher it may be a little difficult to get a call from IIM Shillong with your CAT percentile. But you have pretty good academics so you can expect calls from the newer IIMs like IIM Bodhgaya, IIM Sambalpur, IIM Sirmaur, IIM Rohtak and others.
You should also check out colleges like
  • MDI Gurgaon
  • IMT Ghaziabad
  • VGSOM IIT Kharagpur
  • Sailesh j Mehta School of Management
  • NITIE
  • IMI Delhi and others.

Good Luck

Manisha Gupta Expert 7th Jan, 2020

Hello Aspirant,

In order to get a call from IIMs CAT score is not the only parameter involved in the selection procedure. After CAT exam every IIM prepares a merit list to call students for next round of interview based on your aggregate score which comprises of many parameters such as CAT marks, 10th, 12th and graduation percentage, work experience etc.

To get a call from IIM Shillong you should have around Overall 95 CAT Percentile with 75 sectional cutoff as General Category so you should meet the cutoff to get into there.

I have 81% in 10th, 61.8% in 12, 62.4% in graduation and 87 percentile in CAT in OBC category. Am I eligible for iim shillong?

Rehan Alam Student Expert 26th Nov, 2019

Dear Aspirant,

IIM Shillong Eligibility criteria require that the candidate must hold a bachelor's degree of minimum 3 years duration after class 12, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (in case of the candidate belonging to SC/ST/PwD category, the eligibility criterion is relaxed to 45%

IIM Shillong has set a low minimum CAT 2019 percentile cut off at 7 5%ile sectional. There is no prescribed minimum overall CAT 2019 percentile required by IIM Shillong in its shortlisting criteria.

The actual CAT cut offs at IIM Shillong remain in the range of 94-95 percentile in the shortlisting process.

Hope this helps. Thank you.
