Careers360: Please give a brief introduction about IIM Lucknow Noida Campus and the reasons why it has been set up?

Dr. S Venkat: IIM Lucknow is one of the first IIM’s to set up a second campus in the Delhi-NCR region, catering to the needs of the corporates. IIM Lucknow Noida Campus was established in 2005. The IIM Lucknow satellite campus initially offered an Executive MBA programme only. Subsequently other programmes were also added like a one year International Programme in Management for Executives, Post Graduate Programme in Sustainable Management (PGP-SM), an executive programme in research i.e. Executive Fellow Programme in Management (EFPM) among others.

Careers360: What is the eligibility criteria for one year full-time Executive MBA (IPMX) programme?

Dr. S Venkat: The eligibility criteria for the International Programme in Management for Executives (IPMX) programme is 5 years of work experience post the completion of an undergraduate degree. Along with a valid GRE or GMAT score. Apart from this, during the interview the candidates are accessed on various criteria like quality of experience, academic performance, communication skills, leadership abilities and more. Final admission to IIM Lucknow Noida Campus IPMX programme is based on all the above mentioned criterias.

Careers360: Would the eligibility criteria be the same for a two year Post-Graduate Programme for Working Executives and one year IPMX programme?

Dr. S Venkat: No, the eligibility criteria is not the same for the two year Post-Graduate Programme in Management for Working Executives (PGPWE) as that of IPMX programme. For the PGPWE programme, candidates require a minimum three years of full-time post-qualification (after graduation) work experience, along with a valid GRE/ GMAT/ CAT/ GATE or PGPWE Entrance Exam (similar to CAT) score. Students who enroll for the PGPWE programme have to attend the classes at IIM Lucknow Noida Campus every alternate week. Candidates need not resign from their jobs to pursue this programme i.e. by design it is for Working Executives.

Careers360: Do the IPMX and PGPWE programmes focus on general management, or the students have the opportunity to specialise in specific areas?

Dr. S Venkat: All the IIMs including IIM Lucknow offer a general MBA programme and the students select the specialisation based on the areas they are interested in. In the first year of the PGPWE programme, all the basic subjects are covered and in the second year students choose the electives based on their interest.

Whereas in the IPMX programme, the first two terms basic courses are covered and in the next two terms students choose the electives based on their interest. The degree that is awarded to students is a General MBA degree.

Careers360: What about practical training? How is this incorporated within these programmes?

Dr. S Venkat: Almost all MBA courses offered around the world offer practical training and the method of teaching includes case methods, simulations, capstone projects, individual and group assignments. As far as the one year Executive MBA programme is concerned, students have 5+ years of work experience and the average work experience of the batch is about 8+ years. Hence they are already sufficiently exposed to all the practical things and are able to understand much better in the classroom.

IIM Lucknow Noida Campus organises sessions by industry experts in each subject. There are special assignments like group assignments, case studies which students have to work on, which is part of their curriculum.

For the 2 year Executive MBA programme there is a separate dissertation or thesis which is part of the course for which students have to work for a period of 6 months on an individual topic. The teaching pedagogy of IIM Lucknow Noida Campus is practical oriented.

Careers360: What are the benefits of completing these programmes from IIM Lucknow Noida Campus?

Dr. S Venkat: Doing an MBA gives students a complete 360 degree perspective about finance, manpower, leadership, technology, strategy, operations, organisation development and more of the overall business. And at the end of the programme students are well equipped with all aspects of running a business.

Another important dimension is when students interact with each other in the classroom and there is peer to peer learning they gain knowledge, different perspectives, and managerial skills. Hence the value additions after the MBA programme is immense.

Careers360: Does IIM Lucknow support the students with placements?

Dr. S Venkat: Yes, IIM Lucknow supports students with placements through its Career Development Services. A number of workshops are conducted for making the students industry ready. As per IIM Lucknow Noida Campus placement statistics more than 95% students are placed every year. The institute helps the one year Executive MBA programme students, by providing them placement opportunities even after the programme is over.

Whereas the two year Post-Graduate Programme for Working Executives students are not provide exactly the same services but the institute helps them in a similar way by making the students industry ready and organising workshops. One of the biggest advantages of any of these programmes is the alumni network.

Careers360: Who can apply for the Sustainability Management programme and what is the role that comes after we complete the programme?

Dr. S Venkat: Students with a valid CAT score and minimum work experience of 2 years post-qualification (after graduation) are eligible to apply for admission to IIM Lucknow Post Graduate Programme in Sustainable Management programme. The batch size for the PGP-SM programme is 50. The core of this programme centres around topics that are highly relevant to sustainable development and students get placed in organisations for related roles.

Students enrolled in the Sustainability Management programme also have an international immersion where they learn a lot. The one year and two year Executive MBA programmes also have an international module which is compulsory.
