PSG Institute of Management (PSGIM) Coimbatore started as the Department of Management Science under the PSG College of Technology. In 1994, the department was granted autonomous status by the University of Madras and the University Grants Commission (UGC). It is affiliated to Anna University. PSGIM Coimbatore offers postgraduate and doctoral level courses like MBA, MBA in Waste Management & Social Entrepreneurship, MS (By Research), Ph.D Management and various PSGIAS programmes with credit transfer option to Universities in the US and UK. Admission to PSGIM programmes is based on group discussion and personal interview. As per the PSG Institute of Management placement 2020-22 report the highest package offered was Rs 14.89 LPA and the average package offered was Rs 7.19 LPA.
Careers360 brings you an interview with Karthik Varun, MBA student at PSG Institute of Management Coimbatore. He is a first year student. In his interaction with Careers360, Karthik shares her experience at PSGIM. What is it like to be a part of the PSGIM Coimbatore? How did he choose the MBA programme? Careers360: Tell us something about yourself such as from which place are you from?
Answer: I am Karthik Varun from Chennai. I am pursuing my MBA in PSGIM. I have more than 3 years of work experience in the field of IT Recruitment, both domestic and US recruitment.
Careers360: Presently which course are you pursuing and in which year are you?
Answer: I am currently pursuing my Masters in Business Administration in PSG Institute of Management. And I am doing my first year.
Careers360: Did you face any difficulty in the initial months when you joined the institute?
Answer: I thought it would be difficult initially to settle because of the age difference, but my classmates and hostel roommates made it easy for me to settle in the class and in the hostel.
Careers360: What activities are offered in the institute? Are there any clubs etc for the various extracurricular activities? Which ones have you taken up and are a part of?
Answer: Our institution provides an opportunity to participate in several co-curricular and extra curricular activities. Clubs such as sports club, quiz club, biz club, entrepreneurship cell, movie club,and cultural club are active on the campus. Events such as Week of Games and Week of Wonders are very popular on campus. I am an active participant in quiz club and participated in various games in week of games.
Careers360: Describe a typical day at your institute – what do you do from the time you wake up till you go to sleep?
Answer: My day at college will typically start by 8.20 AM that is when I have to board the bus to come to campus. Normally we will be engaged in classes till 5 pm. And if there are any special lectures, then it stretches till about 6 pm and then will be back to the hostel. Evenings are generally spent on class preparation, completion of assignments etc.
Careers360: Tell us about the faculty-student ratio here and about the teacher-student relationship in your understanding.
Answer: The teacher - student relationship is very good as the teachers are very understanding and very helpful both personally and academically and will spend valuable time with you individually.
Careers360: What facilities do you have on the campus? What do you like here the most which you feel is unique and differentiating?
Answer: We have many facilities like library, CRC cell, trading lab, digital board, separate mentor for a group of students,etc. I feel like having a separate library for MBA,the trading lab and also usage of smart boards are unique.
Careers360: How comfortable are your hostels and how about the cleanliness factor over there?
Answer: Hostel is very comfortable as I have previous experience at staying in a hostel and cleanliness in the hostel is not an issue as they have people to clean the rooms.
Careers360: What about the medical facilities? Can you avail requisite medical attention if needed in an emergency?
First aid facilities are available in hostel and in department and if there is an emergency we have PSG hospital where we can avail medical attention where student discounts are available.
Careers360: How do you balance your studies, projects, exams and other activities?
Answer: Since I have a long break between studies, I initially found it difficult, but now I have learned to balance the activities. Usually the tasks and assignments given are very challenging.
Careers360: Is there any in-house magazine or journal for the latest events or happenings at the institute?
Answer: I don't know about any magazines but we get emails about the happenings in the campus. We have a research journal titled JCRM and a lot of research papers are published.
Careers360: What are the popular hangouts at the institute? What, according to you, are the most-visited places nearby?
Answer: Canteen, B-School Bistro and Amphi theater
Careers360: How do you spend your leisure time at the campus?
Answer: Will read or discuss assignments or will visit the library, go to gym occasionally which is inside our campus.
Careers360: What type of companies come for campus recruitment and what percentage of students get placed every year? How is the recruitment process here?
Answer: Normally placements in the campus start by August or September. Companies from various sectors visit the campus for recruitments. More than 90% of the students get placed while the rest take up entrepreneurship or go back into their family business. The Corporate Relations Centre (CRC) helps in the recruitment process and also helps students to equip themselves with the skills required for placements.

It's quite difficult to make prediction that whether you will be able to get into PSG College ,Coimbatore as cut-off marks keep changing every year depending upon number of factors like
number of students that have appeared in TANCET MBA entrance examination,
difficulty level of the question paper,
number of available seats, reservation criteria etc
But yes,
When we go through previous year trends then you hold a low Chance with 41.667 marks.
For example,
As per previous year trend, an obc category student needs at least around 56.667 marks for PSG.
