Manish Kumar shares details about his campus life, admissions process, courses, facilities offered at IQ City United World School of Business Kolkata. Careers360: Tell us something about yourself such as from which place are you from?
Manish Kumar:
I am Manish Kumar, currently pursuing my MBA at IQ City United World School of Business, Kolkata. I am from Patna, Bihar.

Careers360: Presently which course are you pursuing and in which year are you?
Manish Kumar:
I am pursuing MBA at present and I am in first year (2nd Sem) of my course.

Careers360: Did you face any difficulty in the initial months when you joined the institute?
Manish Kumar:
Yes, I faced some difficulties in my initial months of joining the campus. I was unable to catch up with some subjects like accounts and economics. I was unable to find likeminded people around in the campus. I was finding it difficult to accommodate myself in the environment but now due to the faculty mentors and supporting professors in the premises I have accommodated myself in a better way. The guidance and continuous support from my mentor (Prof. Sahana Ghosh) especially has helped me finding the direction and place I wanted to be in.

Careers360: What activities are offered in the institute? Are there any clubs etc for the various extracurricular activities? Which ones have you taken up and are a part of?
Manish Kumar:
There are total of six clubs in the campus which are: UniBiz, Uni Arts, Uni Sports, Uni Speak, Uni Lit, and Uni Serve. These clubs offer various extracurricular activities for the personal and professional development of the students like painting competition, diversity walks, fashion shows, dance and singing competition, speeches, video making, business quizzes, multiple sports competition and many other.
I have taken part in sports competitions and business quizzes. I am club coordinator of the Uni Biz Club which is a business club basically.

Careers360: Describe a typical day at your institute – what do you do from the time you wake up till you go to sleep?
Manish Kumar:
A typical day would be like waking up and getting ready for the college by 10 A.M and take the bus and arrive at college. Our classes go on till 5:30 P.M and some some days till 3:30 P.M. according to the schedule. I reach my home by 7:00 P.M. I complete my assignments then I cook and then prepare for the upcoming day and then sleep by 11:30 P.M.

Careers360: Tell us about the faculty-student ratio here and about the teacher-student relationship in your understanding.
Manish Kumar:
The faculty to student ratio is 1:10. The teacher-student relationship in the campus is professional and supporting. They are always available whenever we are in need of any guidance or support.

Careers360: What all facilities do you have in the campus? What do you like here the most which you feel is unique and differentiating?
Manish Kumar:
The most unique, differentiating and also which I like the most is the facility of the mentors. We, the students of IQ City are provided with faculty mentors who helps us solve any query/problem we face. The mentors are given a bunch of 10 students each so that each and every student feels heard and seen by their mentors. This is most unique feature that I have seen here at IQ City.
We also have a library where we are provided with business magazines and newspapers which help us in being up to date with latest developments in businesses and tech around the world. Apart from these we have all the basic facilities like internet provided in the campus.

Careers360: How comfortable are your hostels and how about the cleanliness factor over there?
Manish Kumar:
I do not live in a hostel. Since I live in a flat, I am responsible for all the cleanliness factor over here. There is also no issue of security and its well connected to the location of my college.

Careers360: What about the medical facilities? Can you avail requisite medical attention if needed in an emergency?
Manish Kumar:
Yes, I can easily avail required medical attention if needed in an emergencies. There are hospitals and a lot of medical stores nearby.

Careers360: How do you balance your studies, projects, exams and other activities?
Manish Kumar:
For each activity I plan it on a paper or a schedule planner digitally, keeping the most important and with close deadlines at the top of my priority.

Careers360: Tell us about the clubs and societies at the campus and how significant are they from your point of view or students’ point of view?
Manish Kumar:
There are total of six clubs in the campus which are: UniBiz, Uni Arts, Uni Sports, Uni Speak, Uni Lit, and Uni Serve. These clubs offer various extracurricular activities for the personal and professional development of the students like painting competition, diversity walks, fashion shows, dance and singing competition, speeches, video making, business quizzes, multiple sports competition and many other.
The clubs play a significant role in our (students) personal and professional development. The activities done in the clubs prepare us for the upcoming challenges in both personal and professional life. I have learnt a lot of soft as well as technical skills by being a part in the club activities.

Careers360: Is there any in-house magazine or journal for the latest events or happenings at the institute?
Manish Kumar:
Yes, we do have our in-house magazine. The UniBiz Club of which I am a part of, publishes newsletter twice a month. It contains all the latest events which has happened and is happening in the business world around the globe. We also publish case studies on successful marketing campaigns of various companies which taken care of by me.

Careers360: What are the popular hangouts at the institute? What, according to you, are the most-visited places nearby?
Manish Kumar:
We have a cinema hall just near to our building and a mini time square place where we hangout regularly with our friends in the evening. We also have cafés and parks where we can chill out after a hectic day. The mini time square is most visited places nearby according to me.

Careers360: How do you spend your leisure time at the campus?
Manish Kumar:
In my leisure time at the campus, I read personal development books sometimes and also go out with friends to hang out.

Careers360: Do you have any Facebook page of your campus where the students express their views, jokes or ideas, or maybe even a blog where they write about their experience of life at campus?
Manish Kumar:
Yes, our campus is active on social media like Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook where we share our ideas. We students also have a WhatsApp group where we all students of IQ City share ideas and or jokes.

Careers360: What type of companies come for campus recruitment and what percentage of students get placed every year? How is the recruitment process here?
Manish Kumar:
The recruitment process of MBA students requires the students to have the following skillets to an acceptable degree:

A) Technical knowledge

B) Analytical skills

C) Domain and Macroenvironment knowledge and exposure

D) Communication skills - both Verbal and written

E) Group Dynamics skills

F) Acceptable bearing and Personality

The above are inculcated in all students from the 1st Semester through Class Sessions, Simulated Interface Modules, Role Play, Team building and Group Dynamics Sessions.

In addition to scheduled Sessions, Industry Academia Interface Sessions are held regularly with Industry Professionals so that students are given an insight into the operating platform of Industry.

The Recruitment of our students takes place in two ways:

A) During the Summer Internship Program, many students are offered Pre-Placement Offers [PPO]. These are firm Offers to join the Company where they are doing their mandatory Summer Internship Project.

B) Recruitment after successfully clearing all the stages of the Campus Recruitment Program.

For (B) above, prospective candidates meeting the requirements of each organization are asked to confirm their acceptance to participate in the Recruitment process of that organization. Thereafter they prepare their CVs, which are vetted by their Faculty Mentors, and Forwarded to the organization for their review.

Shortlisted candidates are suitably mentored through a number of Sessions before being asked to participate in the Recruitment process.

The above customized training and mentoring program results in a 95% firm offers being received by the students. The balance 5% either join their family business or go for additional academic qualifications enroute to an Academic career.

The organisations who use the B School as a Human Resources Hub range from MNCs to FMCGs, NBFCs, Banks and a very wide range of organisations in the Manufacturing, Power, Telecom, Marketing and Core Sectors. The average number of Companies who recruit our students every year is around.
