Careers360 brings you an interview with Dr. Rajesh Chakrabarti, Director, LM Thapar School of Management. He holds a PhD in Finance from University of California and PGDM from IIM Ahmedabad. Earlier he was professor and director at MDI Gurgaon managing seventy-five faculty members across three PG programmes. He has 25 years of experience in academics and administration in India, Canada and the US. He has worked with organizations like ISB, MDI and Jindal Global University, Georgia Institute of Technology, University of California and University of Alberta. Careers360: Please elaborate on your vision for LM Thapar School of Management. What are the differentiating factors that distinguish it from other B-Schools?
Dr. Rajesh Chakrabarti: LM Thapar School of Management is trying to address the important needs of management education today. LMTSM’s vision is to be global, digital and experiential. At LM Thapar we are committed to global positioning and students to develop a universal mindset. LMTSM courses follow global content and standards, having distinguished faculty from abroad to teach. The differentiating factors that distinguish LM Thapar from other B-Schools is that the curriculum here has more project works and in practice courses, where industry professionals interact with students to take up group projects, which helps them understand challenges and find solutions to it.

Careers360: Thapar has always been a reputed institute and known for its expertise in education. How about the faculty and the teaching pedagogy at LMTSM?
Dr. Rajesh Chakrabarti: There are very well trained faculty at LMTSM who have global exposure and experience in guiding students through experiential learning. Most of the learning in a business school happens through peer learning, the role of the faculty is to be a catalyst and to encourage questioning. LM Thapar faculties span a wide range of management disciplines from finance, marketing to operation management etc. A distinguished feature LMTSM has is the element of tech which is a part of a well known tech university.
Careers360: How do you focus on delivering management education which mirrors the requirements of the corporate world, something which is hands-on, practical and may be projects-oriented.
Dr. Rajesh Chakrabarti: LMTSM curriculum is curated uniquely, there are in practice courses which involve practitioners exposing our students to real-life problems that are currently happening in the industry. This bridges the gap and encourages students to find solutions, guided by industry experts and anchored by academics. The faculty works hard to keep students abreast of the contemporary reality of business.
Careers360: How about the campus, and campus life at LMTSM? And How do you ensure diversity in the programme to offer a wholesome campus life experience to students?
Dr. Rajesh Chakrabarti: LMTSM campus is spread over 30 acres. It is located close to the chandigarh tri-city area. Infrastructure in the campus is very well suited to a top business school. LMTSM campus facilities include auditorium, accommodation, sports, cafeteria and more. Nearly half of our students are women, our geographical diversity is increasing too. LM Thapar has a geographical diverse and well balanced gender diversity at the campus.

Careers360: The students, while joining a post graduate professional degree, are concerned about the careers they have chosen and gauge their decision via the placements they get. We would like to know about the internship and placement scenario at LMTSM
Dr. Rajesh Chakrabarti: LM Thapar School of Management has been successful in getting internships and final placements for all our students. Over time LMTSM placement package have increased gradually. LMTSM highest package is around 20 LPA and the LMTSM average package is 8 LPA. LM Thapar placement has the top 25% of the students with a package between 12-14 LPA. Top recruiters in the LMTSM placement drive include, Deloitte, PwC, and many banks, manufacturing, operations companies and there is a wide range of corporates who keep coming back at the LMTSM campus.
