An Interview with Yogesh Nagar - Alumnus of Lloyd Business School

Careers360 brings an interview with Yogesh Nagar, a PGDM alumnus of Lloyd Business School, who now has Talent Acquisition role at Prudent Insurance Brokers. shares details about his career progression and the course pursued at Lloyd Business School Greater Noida. Go through the interview to learn more about alumni’s campus life and experiences.

Careers360: Tell us about your domain and your work profile. At the professional level, did you pursue the same field you were interested in or you switched?

Yogesh Nagar- I started with HR and still I’m in HR and I have no plans to leave it. I started with a generalist role then became HRBP and currently in a Talent Acquisition role. I did not switch. I studied HR in my PGDM. I feel like I belong in HR. It makes sense for me to be in Human Resources.

Careers360: Can you briefly tell us about your career path so far?

Yogesh Nagar- I think I started my career just like everyone as an HR Intern with Medi Assist where initially I was given HR Ops to handle but gradually as I progressed with Medi Assist I was promoter as the 1st Management Trainee at that org after 6 months of Internship and later promoted to Executive HRBP. I stayed there, cleared my basics and gained great experience which I will take for the rest of my career with me. Then after completing 1.5 yrs with Medi Assist, I joined Prudent Insurance Brokers in a similar industry there I got Sr Executive as designation better pay and my role was only Talent Acquisition here. It’s important to stay in 1 org for more than a couple of years. Medi Assist was my first also Internship so I took that chance and switched but I plan to spend good time here.

Careers360: Is the Industry work different from what you learnt at Lloyd Business School?

Yogesh Nagar- Definitely not, whatever I studied really helped me. PGDM is a progressive course we studied and cleared all our basics in very short span but it was all relevant. Obviously we don't study how to navigate corporate but we definitely know what is expected of us and what we have to do as a professional.

Careers360: How do you think your time in college has added value to your life, both professional and personal?

Yogesh Nagar- I would say College helped me a lot both professionally and personally, for example, I had no clue you know about my career goals. What I wanted to do with my life or with how to progress with a career in human resources, but being in college having amazing mentors helped a lot, not just about academics or professional life, but personal too. It’s really important to understand the importance of having a mentor in life and that’s what Lloyd gave me the mentors, amazing mentors who can you know just help me with everything, so I think this is one of the most important thing or you can say the value that I’ve gotten from Lloyd.

Careers360: What was your initial thought process when you joined Lloyd Business School?

Yogesh Nagar- When I joined Lloyd, I had no experience of business school or management. I was a graduate from Delhi University. So my initial process and initial thought was like I have to do this. I had no clue how to navigate the whole journey. How to move forward, what to do and what not to do. I was trying to do a lot of things, so I did that, but with time I realised it’s important to grow myself to gain confidence in what I do, what I can do and in my skills because that is something that I’ll be taking with me for the rest of my life. I only read about business schools and on YouTube and the internet. But I realised the lot of things which are going on, especially in PGDM. A lot of things are there every week or we know every second week you have a session with a mentor with somebody from the industry, it’s a lot, you have to be really quick with the things. These were the initial thoughts and processes which I followed when I joined College.

Careers360: You must have spent a memorable time at your Lloyd Business School. Do you miss being a part of it? Share a few good memories.

Yogesh Nagar- For sure having a campus, life is very important. A lot of memories I have with College, so for example, I always talk about it. It was the trek that really changed my life in a lot of ways. It made me realise I can do the impossible. The challenge that I faced, the experience, the adventure, the thrill, the Rush. It was something that I will be taking with me for the rest of my life, I do miss the classes. You know the learning part, the presentation that we used to give the assignments. The events we used to organise. Obviously, these are the things that I still miss a lot of, but in particular the trek is something that I will always remember as the most memorable part of my college life.

Careers360: Briefly take us through your life at the campus, the activities you used to do and your routine life.

Yogesh Nagar- So, classes used to start at 9:30 a.m. till 4 to 5 sessions 1 1/2 hour each 15 10 minutes break after every class. We used to have one session, a workshop and event lot of activities. assignments were there that time made me realise the importance of time management, how important it is to track your life. The things that you’re doing to make note of everything and manage everything that you’re doing in general because that discipline is what you need when you get into corporate. And college life taught me that a routine and discipline to do things and how not to work on deadlines but finish your work before time. So I think everything that we do in campus in college life will reflect in the later years of your life, so this is my take on this.

Careers360: Apart from academics, what were the other activities you were involved in and how did it enrich your life?

Yogesh Nagar- So I was very active with extra curricular activities, hosting event, and organizing them. I was a member of people connect the HR Club. I served as a President then I was the senior president now still I am the alumni mentor for the people connect HR club. The experience of running the HR club helped me gain management skills to manage a team of 15 20 people, allocating tasks, delegating tasks, which is something People connect taught me. I am stressing on a few things again and again, which is college and campus Life really helped me in getting the experiences that I am using, and I will be using for the rest of my life and in my career.

Careers360: How did you keep updated with the industrial requirements and what was the role of the institute in it?

Yogesh Nagar- I think PGDM is a kind of course where the curriculum keeps on changing as per industry requirement standards, the curriculum The people that were coming to deliver sessions from the industry. The workshop that they were giving was about the current scenario of industry and market so the curriculum was designed to keep us updated to upskill ourselves and to be ready for corporate.

Careers360: You are a proud alumnus of this top College. What is the best part of Lloyd Business School from a student's perspective?

Yogesh Nagar- For sure, it will be the mentors. The faculty members that we have are really something that I will be cherishing for the rest of my life. I want them to be my mentor for the rest of my life. The love the guidance, the support that I’ve gotten I cannot put it in words, and that is the best part of College. Education is something that we will be getting in every business school, but getting this kind of mentorship from your professors and faculty members is not something you can get everywhere, so I really have a strong sense of gratitude, for it and I feel blessed to have them.

Careers360: What is your suggestion/guidance for the PGDM aspirants?

Yogesh Nagar- Suggestion that I will give is that manage your time, Don’t waste it. Always be ready for changes and don’t get lazy at all. You have to be active, you have to be proactive only then you can complete the course. It’s good to have fun and you should have fun. You should enjoy your campus life, but don’t ignore the classes. The theory part and the assignments and everything that is going on in the curriculum. It’s very very important. That is the only guidance I will give them for now.
