Careers360: Tell us something about yourself.
Abhishek: I am Abhishek Paul, an electrical engineer with experience in sales and a strong inclination toward strategy and business development. I am passionate about learning the intricacies of business and exploring diverse cultures, having lived in multiple cities. I also enjoy sketching and discovering new places.
Careers360: What were the factors that made you choose IIFT?
Abhishek: IIFT stands out as one of the premier B-schools in India, attracting top talent from across the country. Its exceptional placement records and vast alumni network, backed by a legacy spanning over six decades, were key factors for me. Being situated in Delhi, IIFT offers unparalleled access to industry connections through guest lectures and events, enabling direct interactions with leaders from renowned organizations.
Careers360: What was the first thing that you noticed about the campus and life at IIFT?
Abhishek: The campus exudes a sense of history and legacy, reflecting its stature as a breeding ground for industry leaders. Walking through its classrooms and corridors, and standing atop the TOW, I felt a blend of pride and ambition—a realization of the opportunities ahead.
Careers360: What were the initial challenges faced by you at the campus?
Abhishek: Time management was the biggest challenge as I tried to balance academics, extracurricular activities, and case competitions. Thankfully, guidance from seniors played a crucial role in helping me adapt.
Careers360: What do you think are unique facilities that are offered at IIFT?
Abhishek: IIFT provides several unique opportunities, such as port visits—a rare feature among Indian B-schools. As the only institution with a focus on international trade, the emphasis on trade summits and the presence of dignitaries from the Ministry of Commerce make it stand out.
Careers360: Give us a glimpse of the daily routine followed by you at the IIFT Campus.
Abhishek: Each day at IIFT is dynamic, but generally, it starts with classes in the morning, interspersed with assignments, quizzes, and presentations. Afternoons may involve fitness activities like table tennis or cricket. Evenings are usually spent working on club or committee activities, followed by late-night sessions with peers.
Careers360: If you were to rate one favourite thing at the IIFT Campus, what would it be?
Abhishek: I believe it has to be the Auditorium and the Atrium. The auditorium marks the beginning of our MBA journey, the atrium is where we experience the essence of campus life, and the journey comes full circle as we graduate in the same auditorium where it all started, with the Wings of Wisdom standing witness to our transformation.
Careers360: How would you rate the campus facilities?
Abhishek: I would rate them 9/10. The campus is well-equipped with resources for everyone, be it academics, sports, or cultural activities. From historic classrooms to vibrant recreational spaces, there’s something for everyone.
Careers360: Which areas do you think can do with some improvement?
Abhishek: Cross-campus interactions with institutes like old IIMs and FMS could be enhanced through collaborative events and knowledge exchanges.
Careers360: Peer groups generally leave long-lasting impressions and many times translate to lifelong friendships. What is your opinion on the peer groups at IIFT?
Abhishek: The peer network at IIFT is truly invaluable. These connections extend beyond friendship, evolving into a professional support system as everyone progresses in their respective careers. The bonds formed over late-night discussions and casual hangouts are priceless.
Careers360: “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” This holds true for all. What are the regular fun activities at IIFT?
Abhishek: IIFT ensures a perfect mix of work and play. Events like the Ultimate Warrior League, Section Wars, and Quo Vadis bring the campus to life. Additionally, regular club activities and informal gatherings add to the vibrant atmosphere.
Careers360: Name some of the prominent clubs at IIFT. Which ones are you part of? Do you think they are important for students?
Abhishek: IIFT boasts a variety of clubs, such as Pixel for photography enthusiasts, Capital for finance aspirants, and Socrates for strategy and consulting. I believe these clubs are crucial as they allow students to pursue their interests while gaining practical insights.
Careers360: Extracurricular activities cover a lot of things. Name some activities that you participate in.
Abhishek: I actively engage in sports like table tennis and cricket. Additionally, I dedicate time to weight training and sketching, which help me unwind and recharge.
Careers360: Stress busters are important, especially with intense programs of study. What are yours?
Abhishek: Spending time with friends and exploring Delhi’s rich heritage and culture are my go-to stress busters. Its proximity to incredible destinations adds to the charm.
Careers360: Name some activities that are related and focused on the IIFT MBA-IB & MBA-BA.
Abhishek: Case competitions, trade summits, and guest lectures by trade and analytics experts are integral to IIFT’s MBA-IB and MBA-BA programs.
Careers360: If you were to rate your academic infrastructure, what would be your opinion on a score of 1 to 10?
Abhishek: I would give it a 9/10. The rigorous academic environment, complemented by state-of-the-art infrastructure, makes IIFT one of the most competitive and rewarding institutions in the country.
Careers360: In your opinion, how do campus life and interactions shape a student's life?
Abhishek: Campus life is as impactful as academics. The interactions, collaborations, and shared experiences enrich your perspective, preparing you for challenges both within and beyond the corporate world.
Careers360: What are the regular events that are held at the IIFT campus?
Abhishek: Regular events include Trade Winds, Quo Vadis, Koshish, Vivaan, and GAR. Each event offers unique learning and networking opportunities.
Careers360: If you had to describe your campus in a nutshell, what would that be?
Abhishek: A prestigious B-school with a six-decade legacy, a brilliant institution, and a thriving campus culture.
Careers360: What would you miss most about the campus and life here after you leave?
Abhishek: The people. The relationships I’ve built here—whether through teamwork, late-night conversations, or shared challenges—will be the hardest to part with once this transformative journey ends.
