Started as the Department of Management Science under the PSG College of Technology, PSG Institute of Management (PSGIM) Coimbatore affiliated to Anna University. In 1994, the department was granted autonomous status by the University of Madras and the University Grants Commission (UGC). PSGIM Coimbatore offers a wide range of postgraduate and doctoral level courses in the field of management which are approved by AICTE. Careers360: Tell us something about yourself such as from which place are you from?

Amarnath: I am Amarnath VenkatesH SB hailing from Tirunveli. I am pursuing my Masters in Business Administration from PSG Institute of Management. I worked in TCS as a Production Support Engineer for 4 years. During my stay at TCS, I managed a team of 4 members. My academic area of interest is analyzing consumer behavior patterns and inventory management in supply chain management.

Careers360: Presently which course are you pursuing and in which year are you?

Amarnath: Currently I am pursuing my first year of Masters in Business Administration at PSG Institute of Management

Careers360: Did you face any difficulty in the initial months when you joined the institute?

Amarnath: No, I felt it was easy to cope up with the subjects and new environment when I joined the institute

Careers360: What activities are offered in the institute? Are there any clubs etc for the various extracurricular activities? Which ones have you taken up and are a part of?

Amarnath: Some of the activities that are offered in the institute such as Best Manager (BM) , Week of Wonders, Week of games, Talent Night and Dejavu to showcase your talent. Notable activity is C-Insights where experts from industry in various fields share their experience and about the current industry expectations. There are various clubs in the institute and some of them are Quiz Club, Movie Club, E-cell, Cultural club etc. I have been part of Quiz and Movie club.

Careers360: Describe a typical day at your institute – what do you do from the time you wake up till you go to sleep?

Amarnath: A Day in my Life

Wake up at 5:30 a.m, followed by Yoga at 6:00 a.m. and Newspaper Reading

Classes start at 8:30 a.m. and go on till 4:00 or 5:50 PM. On some days I have time to visit the library during lunch or after the class gets over.I might hit the gym on campus based on the next day's work or schedule. Once I am back home, I follow my regular work which involves hanging out with roomies for dinner, discussion about academics and subjects etc. I go to bed by 11:30

Careers360: Tell us about the faculty-student ratio here and about the teacher-student relationship in your understanding.

Amarnath: Faculty - Student ratio is about 1:15 . Faculty at PSGIM are very student friendly and available at any time to help you out with your academics and career guidance. They keep motivating us to perform and bombard us with all contemporary issues in the industry. The program coordinator and tutor facilitate us to have a wonderful learning experience on campus.

Careers360: How do you balance your studies, projects, exams and other activities?

Amarnath: I have found enough time to balance my academics with other activities. Some projects given are bit hectic and challenging but I was able to sneak time from my daily schedule and complete it

Careers360: Tell us about the clubs and societies at the campus and how significant are they from your point of view or students point of view?

Amarnath: I have been part of Quiz Club and Movies Club. Quiz Club has helped students to win BizQuiz events at various B school events

Careers360: What are the popular hangouts at the institute? What, according to you, are the most-visited places nearby?

Amarnath: Popular hangouts at the institute - Canteen ,B-School Bistro, Amphi theater, Snack Bar and Discussion Room at library. Most-visited places nearby - Brookefields Mall, Fun Mall, Race Course, Kovai Kutralam

Careers360: How do you spend your leisure time at the campus?

Amarnath: Canteen ,Amphi theater, B-School Bistro and Discussion Room at library

Careers360: Do you have any Facebook page of your campus where the students express their views, jokes or ideas, or maybe even a blog where they write about their experience of life at campus?

Amarnath: I don't have an account or profile in FB, instagram etc. I have a profile in Linkedin and follow up the PSGIM page and post some other activities held within the campus.

Careers360: What type of companies come for campus recruitment and what percentage of students get placed every year? How is the recruitment process here?

Amarnath: Companies like Silicon Labs, Deloitte and other blue chip MNCs visit the campus. Since I am a first year student, I have been trained for the recruitment process via the Professional Empowerment Programme (PEP) as a part of academics. Students have an opportunity to hone their skills required for group discussion, aptitude etc. through the training sessions facilitated by the Corporate Relations Centre (CRC).
