Quantitative Ability

The difficulty level of this section ranged from moderate. Unlike the previous year, there were questions on Data Interpretation/Reasoning. The majority of the questions were on Arithmetic and Number system. There were no questions on Higher Math. Other topics included Algebra, Modern Maths, and Co-ordinate Geometry which were tricky and time-consuming making Quantitative Ability the tougher section.

Verbal Ability

The difficulty level was easy. The questions were based on Reading Comprehension and English Usage. There were two Reading Comprehension passages of moderate to tough difficulty level. The questions on Synonym-Antonym were tougher compared to other topics. The rest of the topics included Grammar, Fill in the blanks, Word usage and Vocabulary.

Last minute tips and exam taking strategy

Gautam Puri, Vice Chairman of Career Launcher mentions that the questions of Quantitative Ability could be time consuming inspite of being on basic topics. Revise the Arithmetic and Algebra formulae. Puri suggests, “Students should keep in the mind the slight increase in difficulty level of this exam, vis-à-vis other exams while preparing for the same.”

Revise your strengths from the IPMAT syllabus and do not start any new area.

Exam taking strategy

Selection of Questions - Select the questions carefully. Since there is negative marking scheme, accuracy factor has to be taken care of in order to clear the IPMAT cut off marks.

Time Management – There is no section wise time limit of the exam, hence you have to be careful about the time management factor. Divide the time wisely between the two sections.

Revise – After completing the paper, revise all the questions carefully, including your rough work done at the scratch sheet provided at the test centre.

On the exam day, ensure that you reach the exam centre within the stipulated time and carry the requisite documents like IPMAT 2017 Admit Card and ID proof.
