If I fill the registration form of SNAP and did not fill any separate program fees, then is my score of no use ...????

Sarath Abayankar 29th Nov, 2020

Dear Aspirant,

There are two key payment steps involved in the SNAP process. First you have to register yourself on the website - https://www.snaptest.org - before filling the applicant details and other required information, selecting the slot(s) and cities. Please note that this time SNAP gives you two cracks at the exam, i.e., out of the three provided dates (20 Dec, 6 Jan and 9 Jan), you can select up to a maximum of 2 dates and write SNAP up to two times, and the best out of your two performances will be considered. The last date for this step was 28 November. However, it has been extended till the midnight of 30 November. The fee for the same is Rs. 1750 for each attempt.

Once the SNAP registration is done, you will have to select from a list of Symbiosis colleges accepting SNAP score, and fill the individual colleges’ application forms. Each of these forms have a separate deadline attached to them, which vary from college to college. Once again, please refer to the above-mentioned website to check the deadlines. Most of forms would have a fee of Rs. 1000 attached to them.

Please go through the list of colleges, your potential SNAP score depending on your mock performance and your area of interest before filling the institute form, as these come at an extra cost.

Also, please note that if and only if you have paid for the institution form will you receive a call for the further rounds of selection process, provided you clear the institute’s SNAP cutoff.

Cheers and All the best!

I have secured 85% in 10th, 87% in 12th and 62% in Grad. Will I get calls from NMAT and SNAP?

Sarath Abayankar 30th Nov, 2020

Dear Aspirant,

When we say ‘call from NMAT and SNAP’, the first thing we need to understand is that NMAT and SNAP are both exams, the scores of which are used for admission into various colleges. You can refer to the following websites to check out the colleges accepting the respective exams –

SNAP – https://www.snaptest.org/

NMAT – https://www.nmat.org/schools/

The cut-offs for the various colleges vary drastically. But the major colleges for NMAT is NMIMS Mumbai and for SNAP, the major colleges are SIBM Pune and SCMHRD.

Also, one thing to be kept in mind is that cut-offs are dynamic entities and differ with the performance of peers, the difficulty of the paper and many other factors.

However, keeping in mind the historical data, the cut-off for NMIMS Mumbai has been more than 210-215. And the SNAP cut-off for SIBM Pune and SCMHRD have been around 98 percentile and 97 percentile respectively.

While there are colleges for almost all percentiles in both NMAT and SNAP, these are the top colleges in the respective exams.

Cheers and all the best!

To get into MICA we have to take the MICAT exam, but do we also have to fill a separate form for the MICA college? Like the one that happens with NMAT and SNAP.

priyaankasarkar Student Expert 29th Nov, 2020

MICA offers both Residential and online Programmes. Under Residential list, MICA offers:

Post Graduate Diploma in Management Communications PGDM-C

Fellow Programme in Management FPM

Post Graduate Certificate Programme in Crafting Creative Communication CCC

For being eligible for these programmes, you should have completed your Graduation in any discipline that is recognised by the Association of Indian Universities in 10+2+3 format or an equivalent qualification. Those appearing for final examinations of Graduation are also eligible to apply. MICA more of shortlists those Candidates who demonstrate aptitude for expressing, assessing and or conceiving ideas to achieve business results. MICA has a 3 step selection process which can be read and understood from the official website: https://www.mica.ac.in/postgraduate-programme/selection-process-and-timelines. But to give you an idea,

1. You have to appear for any one of the entrance examinations among CAT/XAT.GMAT. Your CAT 2020, XAT 2021 or GMAT 2019 onwards scores will be considered for MICA admission process. You need to update your score options in the online application form i.e. CAT 2020, xat 2021, GMAT 2019 onwards. Once you receive your CAT score/XAT Registration number and GMAT score, you need to update the details on the official website on or before January 20th, 2021. For XAT, you only need to mention the XAT registration number and your score will be collected from XLRI.

2. MICA Admission test:All Candidates will be assessed on MICAT which consists of 3 sections namely:

Psychometric Test

Descriptive Test

Divergent and Convergent Thinking/ Verbal Ability. Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation and General Awareness.

So even if you appear for CAT/XAT.GMAT, you still need to appear for MICAT.

3. Candidates who have been shortlisted on the basis of their performance in CAT/XAT/GMAT and MICAT have to appear for both Group Exercise and Personal Interview. This is the 3rd step.

Group Exercise and Personal Interview Shortlisting process:

Psychometric test is a qualifier. Those who qualify in the Psychometric test have to also score a minimum cut off in CAT/XAT percentile/GMAT score. And their relative performance in CAT/XAT/GMAT will be considered. Those who qualify on the   basis of their CAT/XAT/GMAT performance, Section B of MICAT scores will be assessed. And those Candidates who qualify on the basis of relative performance subject to a minimum cut off in Normalised scores of Section B of MICAT shall be assessed on Section C of MICAT. And the final composite score is calculated using the weightages:

  • CAT/XAT/GMAT: 20%
  • MICAT: 30%
  • GE: 20%
  • PI: 30%

MICAT is the entrance examination for admission to MICA Ahmedabad alone and so for admission to MICA, you need to fill in the MICAT application form, CAT/XAT/GMAT application form and appear for the exams. The MICAT application form is good enough. You do not need to fill another separate application form. For more information, please read our article: https://media.careers360.com/articles/micat

is it compulsory to give SNAP two time?

Tunir Sikdar 11th Nov, 2020

Hi,

No. it is not compulsory to give or appear for SNAP twice. SNAP exam is a computer based test to be held for Symbiosis MBA admissions in 16 institutes.  Candidates can take a maximum of two SNAP 2020 tests and the best of the two scores of SNAP exams will be considered for admissions.

Key changes in SNAP Exam 2020

  • Symbiosis National Aptitude Test (SNAP) is now a computer based test.
  • It will be held thrice this year on three different dates with one SNAP exam date in December 2020 and two in January 2021
  • Candidate can apply and appear for two SNAP 2020 test.
  • While exam dates are different, the test timing is the same for all the 3 SNAP exams i.e 11 am to 12 noon
  • For admission purposes, the best of two attempts will be considered to compute the final SNAP percentile.
  • The fee is Rs. 1750/- for each SNAP 2020 attempt.

is it compulsory to fill the symbiosis college application form with SNAP registration?

Sarath Abayankar 2nd Jan, 2021

Dear Aspirant,

Having decided to attempt SNAP, there are two key decisions that need to be made –

  1. How many attempts you plan to appear for, and when?
  2. What are the colleges that you want to target?

As far the first question goes, with a maximum of two available attempts, one can decide to either utilize it and go for 2 attempts, or if one is confident, choose only one attempt. Date again is a question of availability of the slots. However, the major decision is the attempts, as the scores will be normalized and the best of two attempts (if at all) will be considered for percentile.

Now as far as the second question is concerned, the top colleges coming under SIU are SIBM Pune, SCMHRD Pune, SIIB Pune and SIBM Bangalore. There are also a plethora of other colleges offering various MBA programs under SIU. One look at the mock scores can help you figure out where to invest the application fee in. Personally, I’d apply not only to the colleges in my mock bracket of scores, but also a couple above and below. These act as safety nets to account for the D-Day performance. Also, if money is not a factor, I would advice one to consider applying for SIBM Pune and SCMHRD given that both of them are amongst the top B Schools in the country and that is a punt one can take, instead of being sorry when the result comes out, only to receive a high percentile but not have applied for the said colleges.

Now having taken the above decisions, there are two check points to be crossed –

  1. Fill the form for the SNAP exam
  2. Fill the form(s) for the program(s) in the respective college(s)

Please note that the deadlines for all of these action items are different. The deadline for applying for the SNAP exam was 30 th November 2020. However, just applying and attempting SNAP does not make one eligible for admission into any program at the various colleges. The programs have to be selected and applied for separately. Each program carries a fee of 1000 on an average. And each college has multiple programs. In order to understand the same completely, I’d advise you to have a look at the various colleges and the programs they provide in the following page – https://www.snaptest.org/symbiosis-entrance-exam-for-mba.html
