Can I start my preparation now also for ipmat 2020???

priyaankasarkar Student Expert 27th Apr, 2020
Kratika, you still have time and if you are genuinely interested in joining IIM, this is your chance.

IPMAT has 2 sections Quantitative Aptitude and Verbal Ability. Now QA has 60 marks allotted and VA has 40 marks. Each correct answer gets you 4 marks and a wrong answer takes away 1 mark in the form of negative marking. Though there has been no official release of any syllabus, based on examinations over the years, it has been concluded that few topics are the most covered,
QA:
Number system, LCM & HCF, Percentage, Quadratic Equations, Binomial Theorem, Functions, Mensuration, Permutation and Combination, Probability, Profit, Loss and Discounts, Simple and Compound Interest, Progressions, Ratio and Proportion, Mixtures and Alligations, Logarithms, Time, Speed and Distance, Time and Work, Trigonometry, Geometery, Problems on Ages, Series and Unitary Method, Set Theory, Data Interpretation and Equations.

Because this section involves mathematics and takes most of your time, your focus should be on solving the problems efficiently in the beginning. Even if it takes time, practise upto perfection. Practise as many questions as you can in the conventional way. As and when you get a grip on the subject, you can go for short cuts. Memorise tables, square roots, cube roots, conversion from percent to fraction, etc. Solve sample papers on Mathematics. In the beginning, do not worry about the time it takes. As you practise, you will get the hang of the subject and it will be easier for you.

VA:
Vocabulary, Reading Comprehension, Grammar, Sentence Rearrangement, Sentence Correction, Sentence Completion, Correct Usage of words and phrases and verbal analogies.

Read articles from time to time. Follow newspapers, magazines, and watch the news channels and browse the internet to keep yourself updated. You will need a lot of reading to help you in the comprehension section. You will need speed to help you in this section and you can achieve that only by thorough practise and reading. Take time to understand the question because most answers are interlinked.

Hello,

IPMAT exam is of three sections, first is quantitative aptitide in MCQ format with 40 questions and then in short answer format with 20 questions ,and we also have verbal ability with 40 questions,

You can start your basics with NCERTs book, and for reference you can use RS Agarwal's Quantitative Aptitude. The key here is clear all your basic concepts and practice more and more. Coming to verbal ability,in order to face this section, you need to have good hold on grammar, if you struggle with this section, then start off with Wren and Martin and you can also use Norman Lewis's Word Power Made Easy, SP Bakshi's Objective General in English is a good book, you can refer that and if it's not possible then no problem, there are many sites which provides mock papers for lot of competitive exams, you can practice those especially those of banking it's pretty good standard.
