NMIMS: Preparation tips for NMAT UG?

Aditya 10th Dec, 2021

Hi aspirant,

Below are some preparation tips for NMAT UG which can be helpful for you to excel in the entrance examination:

  • Start with your strong section so that at the beginning of the exam your confidence level gets a boost. After attempting questions from strong areas, move towards the weaker section
  • Be quick while solving the questions as the total number of questions is 120 which should be solved within 120 minutes, which means if candidates have a lack of speed time and accuracy rate, they’ll face issues.
  • Attempt each question as there is no negative marking but do it at the end after completing all you know.

Also following below is section wise strategy by our experts which may be extremely helpful for you:

NMAT test contains a total of 3 sections, which are quantitative ability, language skills, and logical reasoning. So, you need to make a section-wise exam strategy.

Quantitative Ability

This section contains a total of 48 questions which should be answered in 60 Minutes. These questions are totally based on concepts and data interpretation. Data interpretation (DI) is time taking for those candidates who are not in practice for this section and are not clear with its concept.

Data interpretation will have a (bar and Pi) chart questions, tables, and caselets. Questions from these topics will take time to solve. Apart from DI, questions will be asked from algebra, numbers, geometry, and modern maths.

Language Skills

There are a total of 32 questions and which should be completed in the allotted time of 22 minutes. In NMAT preparation tips 2021, there is a clear line which is, candidates must practice well to get good grades and solve all the questions within the stipulated time.

There is comprehension, which usually contains 400 words and questions will be asked in this section related to prepositions, fill in blanks, analogies, jumbled paragraphs, synonyms, and antonyms.

Logical Reasoning

The section contains a total of 40 questions with 38 minutes span of time. Questions will be asked from decision making, verbal reasoning, numerical grid, series, and family tree are the topics which candidates have to focus on. One of the most time-consuming sections, so here candidates need to manage time and attempt an easy one first.

Hope it helps!!

SREYASHI SEN 30th Oct, 2021

Hello there,

NMAT is a national-level MBA entrance exam for admission to NMIMS University and other prestigious Indian business schools. Your percentile must be greater than 95, so any number above 200 is considered good. With this score, you can apply to colleges such as Xavier, SDA Bocconi, VIT, SRM, and others. Use this link for more information on the NMAT admissions process.

i got 196 as raw score in nmat..what will be my scaled score

Siddhant Singh 27th Dec, 2021

Hello,

It will be difficult for me to guide for exact scaled score but I can inform you one thing that with the mark of 196 you will not get NMIMS Mumbai. In NMAT you should focus on your speed because there are too many questions to solve within limited time.

This year paper was little bit easy so cut off will be high accordingly. Try to get more marks around 220+ in NMAT to crack one of the top B-schools.

Thank you.

Hope it helps!

I gave my NMAT by GMAC today. This was my first attempt. My score is: QA: 68 LS: 86 LR: 84 Total: 238 What are my chances to get a call from NMIMS Mumbai

Himanshu Joshi 6th Dec, 2021

Hi Pranshu,

I can see You've got a decent NMAT score in your first attempt. As far as NMIMS Mumbai is concerned, you maybe able to clear the overall cutoff but your sectional scores need a bit of upgradation. As we can see the previous year cutoff for Nmims Mumbai was 235 with sectional scores of 76 in each section. So a bunch of students were not able to fetch the call even after scoring 250+ scores because of their low sectional scores. But the best part of NMAT is that you can give it 3 times and thus I suggest you to take this opportunity and try ro improve your sectional scores along with the overall. I'm sure your would be able to crack it. You just need a improvement in QS and you are good to go.

ALL THE BEST:)

I filled nmat form and the exam is on 29 nov(1st attempt). but forgot to fill nmims form whose deadline was 21 nov. What should I do? I tried filling the form on their website and Im able to fill it. Can I fill it now? Or it will not be accepted?

SRUTHI V 3rd Dec, 2021

No, you can't fill it now , since you have already applied for NMAT exam. but, you need not worry as the NMAT entrance will also be helpful for applying in NMIMS,as NMAT entrance is considered for many institutes including, NMIMS. So just keep working for your NMAT exam and if you get passed with a good score in this exam, you will be able to get a seat in NMIMS for sure.

I had applied for NMIMS on the date of my NMAT exam, but before giving the exam. Although the application on the portal shows to be completed, there is also written: "You will not be able to Apply for NMIMS since you have already given your NMATbyGMAC Exam". I am worried, will my score be counted?

SRUTHI V 3rd Dec, 2021

you need not worry, it is just like applying for the same Institution through two different sources, like for example, if you have applied for an Institution through online and try to apply for the Institution offline then the management would say that you have already applied.

Similarly, you have already applied for NMIMS, as you have applied for NMAT. The only difference is if you have applied for NMIMS before applying for NMAT, then you will be able to write entrance only for NMIMS, but now you will be writing entrance whose result would be considered for many institutes like, NMIMS, ISB, VIT, ITM and more.

so you need not panic, if you get passed in this NMAT exam, then you can apply for NMIMS for sure, so you need not panic.
