Which is better, Ipmat exam after 12th to get into iim or cat exam after graduation ?

Vibhanshu 27th Mar, 2021

Hello,

IPMAT is a national level test which is a gateway for admission to the five-year Integrated Program in Management offered at IIM Indore. IPMAT open your doors only for IIM Indore whereas CAT is a national level exam for admission in postgraduate management program in 20 IIMs and many other top B schools of India. CAT has a wider scope when compared to IPMAT. The amount of opportunities CAT will open for you is massive when in compared to IPMAT. I'll suggest you to go for CAT. However, if you do not wish to write exam again and wish to pursue BBA course in your graduation, then IPMAT is also a decent option.

which is the best coaching class for ipmat?

v neeraja 2nd Apr, 2021

IPMAT is the entrance exam for the five year Integrated program in Management offered by IIM Indore. In this entrance exams, basic questions at 10+2 level are asked in Quantitative Ability and Verbal Ability. As the syllabus is already covered at 10+2 level, you may not want to take a coaching. Attempting a huge number of mock papers and solving previous years sample question papers should help in cracking the examination and getting a good score.

However, if you do wish to take coaching, below are the factors to consider while deciding which institute is the best.

  1. Faculty - Whenever you decide a coaching institute, keep in mind to see at least one demo class by the faculty there. Though all teachers can give you clarity on concepts, tips, tricks and time to time feedback, only few teachers can guide you to develop the right strategies for the exam and personality to crack the interview. Look for those guiding teachers. If possible, take feedback of students who have previously attended classes in the coaching institute and compare with others.
  2. Study Material - CAT and IPMAT are very similar. Hence in most cases you may find that the coaching material provided from IPMAT is similar to that for CAT. It is therefore important to choose an institute which caters to a comprehensive approach at 10+2/BBA level. Understand whether the concepts are clearly detailed out and enough examples and mock tests are given for practice.
  3. Mock Tests - These are very important for your preparation for any competitive exam. Choose an institute which has a wide series of mock tests specially curated for IPMAT. Along with this also look at the number of enrollees for these exams. An institute where maximum number of aspirants take mock test definitely gives you a better estimate of where you stand and can help you replicate the real scenario. You can thereby improve.
  4. Personal Training - Given that IPMAT also has an interview process, it is very important that you are nurtured accordingly. Also at this stage you need lot of help in analysing the papers, strengths, weakness and guidance for your exam strategies. An institute where faculty/assigned mentor can devote time into your preparation should be the first choice.

Considering all the above factors make a decision on the institute you want to join. Below mentioned are few coaching classes for IPMAT:

  • IMS
  • Career Launcher
  • T.I.M.E
  • AceIPM
  • 2IIM
  • Supergrads

what should my routine look like ..now that only 1 months is left for ipmat?

v neeraja 1st Apr, 2021

Firstly all the best for you IPM preparation. This is one of the top most exams which tests your knowledge similar to CAT. As you know, this is a national level entrance exam for admission into the IPM program of IIMs.

The exam date is June 14, 2021. There are 2 sections - Quantitative Ability and verbal ability. Duration is 2 hours and scoring is +4 for correct answers and -1 for wrong answers.

Below I will give you a full strategy till exam date.

  • Initial Concept preparation - This is the phase where you ideally finish all the basic concepts, learn the formulae and shortcut tips and practice a lot to strengthen the understanding of the topic. Ideally this should be complete atleast 6-9 months before the exam. It is also suggested that you make notes of important concepts to revise later as the exam date approaches.
  • Sectional Test - In this phase, one should now start taking smaller mock exams and try to understand if they are able to build a strategy about which questions to target within each section to maximize your score. This is where you analyse the points of strength and weakness and build up your basic when a mix of questions is bombarded at you. Ideally once concept phase is done, and you atleast have a brief overview of everything, you should start your sectional tests,
  • Timed Sectional Test - This is where we try to maximise the score in the given time and thereby build our strategy for the main exam for each section. Have a timer and then take a text as though you are taking the actual exam. After every test analyse your scores and see what works best for you. This should be done between 3-6 months from exam date.
  • Full Length Mock Tests -
    • Identifying Strength & weakness - Up to 3 months from exam date -Once all your concepts are done and you have completed at least 3 sectional tests in each section, move to a full length mock test. This should again be a timed test like an actual exam. Analyze which strategy works best for you. And identify your areas of strength. During 3-6 months, you can also take sectional mocks and full length parallelly - say 1 mock every 3 weeks and sectional tests on the rest of the weeks.
    • Fix your strategy - 2-3 months - With only 2 months left for the exam day, it is time to fix your strategy for the exam on the outline. Some minor tweaks can be done later. Do not forget to analyze your paper after every mock. Increase test frequency to twice a month
    • Practice and practice -last 2 months - Now is the time to put everything to practice. Divide days between concept revision, sectional test, sectional test analysis, mock test and mock test analysis. In the last 1 month it is advised to take 2 mock tests every week and keep analysing your error.

The most important part of the preparation is the analysis of the mock paper you attempted and thereby fine tuning your final exam strategy. There are also ways to analyse the paper and only a correct analysis will give you the best result.

All the best !

i scored 67% in class 10. If i score well in class 12 and in Ipmat exam will i get a call from IIM Indore.

Vibhanshu 16th Apr, 2021

Hello,

As per the IPMAT eligibility criteria, candidates are required to have a minimum aggregate of 60% in their 10th and 12th classes respectively. It is not 60% together in 10th and 12th but 60% separately for 10th and 60% separately for 12th. This is for General Category. For SC/ST/PWD it is 55%.

So make sure you score above 60% in 12th, and to cover up for your performance in 10th, score closer to 90 or more.

Which is better, getting into IIM Indore through Ipmat exam after 12th or Getting into other IIMs through CAT exam ?

Atif Ali 14th Apr, 2021

Hello,

Well it's totally depends upon that whether you want go for Five years integrated programme or want to go for 2 years PGDM programme after CAT exam.

But through IPMAT you are getting a chance to study in one of the most prestigious Institutions of India, So its not a bad deal. On the other hand CAT exam is very very tough exam, It's possible that you don't receive a call even from the baby IIMs if you fail to clear the sectional Cutoff of IIMs.

Have a look at the placement record after IPMAT-

Highest CTC offered- 50 lacs

Average CTC offered- 22 lacs

Number of Recruiters- 160

Now it's totally on you.

Good Luck.
