IIM Kozhikode commences PGP 2013-15 batch- girls out number boys
Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikodehas conducted the Orientation ceremony for the PGP batch 2013-15. A total number of 361 students have been admitted for the PGP 2013-15 batch, out of which 196 are female students and 165 are male students. It is a new record set in the history of the IIMs where the female students have outnumbered the male students.
The women of PGP 2013-15 batch consist of 54.29%. IIM Kozhikode, in its admission criteria gives due weightage to the gender diversity factor. The female students are not only high in number but also belong to diverse talent pool. Priya Chandak, a represented India in the world Skating Championships, Prakriti Sharma is a national level swimmer and basketball player and V Lekshmi was All India CBSE Topper in 2007.
Among the PGP 2013-15 batch, 85% students are from engineering background. Commerce and Economics include 11% students. Medicine, Pharmacy, Science and Architecture constitute 4% students.
IIM Kozhikode’s 17th batch of PGP 2013-15 consist of students with 0-24 months of work experience. The geographical diversity among the students is also evident. Majority of students, 27% are from South India, followed by 26% from West India. North India consists of the 3rd highest percentage of 19% followed by East India which consist of the lowest chunk of students, 12%.
Talking about setting this new record, Dr. Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIM Kozhikode says, “This year we have not only led in ensuring gender diversity but also admitted national talent from the field of sports, music, martial arts and the social sector.”
“Our goal is to churn out not just a competent manager but a well rounded and a compassionate human being. In this endeavour, the current batch of students will be our pathfinders," he added.
