S P Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) Mumbai has recently conducted the Orientation process for the PGDM 2013-15 batch recently on June 11, 2013. The total strength of the batch is 236.
PGDM 2013-15 Batch Profile
The Class consists of 40% girls, which numbered to 94 and 60% boys. Out of the total batch, 72% students are engineers and 28% are non engineers. 90% of the Class has prior work experience of average 24 months.
The batch of 2013-15 comprises of 65 non-engineers who studied in top notch colleges like St. Stephenâs, St. Xavierâs, Shri Ram College of Commerce, Lady Shri Ram, Stella Maris, Singapore Management University, Stella Marris College, Delhi School of Planning and Architecture among others. The batch has 14 Chartered Accountants.
The engineering students are from the apex engineering colleges of India such as BITS Pilani, Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), National Institute of Technology (NITs), Delhi College of Engineering, Jadavpur University, VJTI among other top engineering institutes.
New initiatives at SPJIMR Mumbai PGDM program
Several new initiatives have been taken for this new batch. Introduction of an integrated program in âBusiness Communicationâ, a âBusiness Consulting Projectâ and a minor specialization in âConsultingâ were announced at the Orientation ceremony. A new elective on âDesign Thinking & Innovationâ based on the workshop led by Prof. Srikant Datar, Senior Associate Dean of Harvard Business School, has also been incorporated in the first year of the program for the new batch.
In the Business Communication program, students will form groups and participate in group interactions, presentations and discussions. According to SPIJIMR, this program is benchmarked to the standards of that of Stanford and Harvard Business School.
The Business Consulting Project is a group work based program where the students form groups as junior consultants on live assignments being undertaken by the Centre for Executive Education, Centre for Financial Services and Centre for Entrepreneurship at SPJIMR.
The course on âFundamentals on Business Researchâwhich is immediately taken after the foundation has been accordingly restructured to provide theoretical backdrop for the same.
For students who are Consulting aspirants, a minor specialization has been introduced to provide tailor made inputs. SPJIMR mentions, âGoing forward, the PGDM program expects to launch such âminor specializationâ tracks focusing on sector specific recruiter needs and roles matching the participantsâ career aspirations.â
SPJIMR also claims that the PGDM program has been designed to make the participants globally oriented by providing opportunities to undertake specialized courses in prominent International institutes and also make them socially sensitive value driven leaders.
The Orientation program saw an interactive âQuestion & Answerâ session by Dean Dr. M.L. Shrikant, with the new students. âDr. Shrikant stressed the need for distributive justice in human life and motivated the students to contribute to the society by taking up unconventional careers like entrepreneurship, teaching and social services. He assured institutional support and guidance to participants opting for such careers,â SPJIMR mentioned.
