In an exclusive conversation with Prof. Vishwa Ballabh, Admission Chairperson, XLRI Jamshedpur, Prof. Ballabh mentioned that the XAT 2014 official bulletin will be declared on Wednesday, July 31, 2013. “In all probabilities, the XAT 2014 notification will be announced in the national dailies on July 31, 2013.” With that, the XAT 2014 official website, www.xatonline.net.in is also expected to be functional.
The pattern of the XAT 2014 exam will remain more or less same. Last year, XAT 2013 saw a major change in pattern. In the paper 2, a section on General Awareness was added in order to check the knowledge of the current affairs and General Knowledge of the future managers.
However, the General Awareness section will form a part of the Paper 1 instead of Paper 2. The Paper 2 will only consist of the Essay Writing question. The total number of questions will range from 80-90. The duration will reduce from 3 hours to 2 hours 40 to 45 minutes.
However, this year, the Paper 2, which will include General Awareness and Essay Writing sections will not be considered for calculating the scores and the cut offs. “The candidates will be shortlisted only on the basis of the performance in the Paper 1, the objective paper and not the Paper 2, the subjective paper,” mentioned Prof. Ballabh. Till last year, the score of both Paper 1 and Paper 2 were considered for calculating the scores and shortlsting the candidates for the Group Discussion and Personal Interview rounds.
Last year, there were 91 questions in the Paper 1. The sections of the XAT paper are Verbal Ability, Decision Making and Quantitative Aptitude. For each correct answer, 1 mark will be awarded and there is negative marking of 0.25 marks.
More details will be shared after the official notification is declared on July 31, 2013.

Hello there. Hope you are doing good. I would like to tell you that if you are targetting top colleges accepting XAT score. Then, it is mandatory to clear sectional cutoffs. You need to score well in each section. Moreover, considering past year XAT scores, you should score approximately 26-27.5 score in order to fetch 80-85 percentile in XAT. You can attempt the questions based on accuracy accordingly.
I hope you found this answer helpful. Good luck for your future.
