The President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee visited the IIM Ahmedabad campus on November 30, 2015 and addressed the students and faculty on how to improve Higher Education in India, and on nurturing the innovation ecosystem in the country. The President presented the ‘Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam IGNITE competition awards 2015’ constituted by the National Innovation Foundation – India (NIF) to 41 students from 18 states across India for their 31 creative ideas.

The Governor of Gujarat, Shri OP Kohli; the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Smt. Anandiben Patel; Prof. Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary, Dept. of Science & Technology, Govt. of India; Prof. Ashish Nanda, Director, IIM Ahmedabad; Dr. RA Mashelkar, Chairperson, NIF; and Prof. Anil Gupta, Executive Vice Chairperson, NIF were also present.

The President urged the faculty, students, and alumni of IIM Ahmedabad to continue to engage with creative minds from industry, business, entrepreneurs, society leaders, and those who work at the grassroots. “It must strive to be a beacon of knowledge, nurture other institutions with generous mentorship, and maintain a culture that blends the drive for excellence, and performance with the spirit of collaboration and compassion…NIF and IIMA has given a global identity to the Indian model of social innovation,” he added.

In his address, Pranab Mukherjee talked about linking higher education, innovation and industry and briefed some of the innovation promotion activities being carried out by his office such as the ‘Innovation-in-Scholar Residence programme, where select innovators are provided residency for a couple of weeks at the President House. He also mentioned about the Festival of Innovation organised at the President House with support of NIF to link grassroots innovators with the innovative minds at different levels in diverse fields.

Gujarat Chief Minister Smt. Anandiben Patel said, “This year’s IGNITE is a befitting tribute to Dr. Kalam’s legacy. There is no dearth of talent among the youth of this country. When I saw the list of award winners, I observed that a majority are from the rural areas.” The Chief Minister particularly mentioned two innovative ideas viz. solar farming machine and foldable hand cart, which have the potential to help a lot of farmers in Gujarat.

Dr. RA Mashelkar talked about reinventing and reimagining India through inclusive innovations. Prof Ashutosh Sharma talked about various initiatives that the Department of Science and technology has undertaken to promote the culture of inclusive innovations in the country. He informed the audience about two new initiatives, where NIF would play an important role— the INSPIRE scheme for school children and a competition to harness the creativity of ITI students.

Prof. Ashish Nanda mentioned three projects.

  1. Restoration and expansion of IIM A campus.
  2. Expansion of doctoral programme to nurture research at the institution and provide much-needed high-quality faculty for management institutions in the country.
  3. Focused research that crosscuts traditional management disciplines on topics of deep import to the nation such as - data analytics, social enterprise, and grassroots.

He urged for government support on all three projects as they require significant financial outlays and their benefits redound not only to the institute but to the nation.

IGNITE is a national competition of school students’ technological ideas and innovations conducted by NIF in association with Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Society for Research and Initiatives in Sustainable Technologies and Institutions (SRISTI), various State Education Boards and other partners.

Hi iam having dyslexia, and government hospital certificate for learning disability, can I get pwd (person with disabilities) quota in iim for mba

Harshita Gupta 18th Jan, 2020
Hey,

IIM has given the criteria for PwD under the " Rights of person with Disabilities Act 2006" and according to it, a person must not have disabilities less than 40% , which means disability should be 40% affective.
The categories of disabilities considered under the Act are as follows:
  • Blindness and low vision.
  • Deaf and hard of hearing.
  • locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy.
  • autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability and mental illness.
And few others. So according to the last point mentioned above, you are eligible and might get admission in pwd category if you meet the requirements of scores and cut-off and if you fulfill the criteria.

hope this helps!

I am a chartered accountant and belonging to non creamy obc layer . what percetile should I get to get a call from iim Ahmedabad

Sampriti Student Expert 17th Jan, 2020
For OBC candidates the minimum overall percentile required in CAT is 75 with the sectional cutoffs being 65 in each section. But you should score 80-85 percentile in order to be on the safer side as IIMs do a very rigorous shortlisting based on the profile, candidate's CAT percentile and extra curricular achievements.

All the very best

10th - 10 CGPA , 12th - 78% , Grad- 80% . If i get 99 percentile in CAT 2020 will i be able to get into top B-schools. PS- I am a fresher

Yashu Shrivastava 11th Jan, 2020

Hello Vivek

As you mentioned your academics score and it is good but at 99 percentile in CAT,you have a lot more chance to get calls from top IIMs like IIM Ahmedabad,IIM Bangalore,IIM Calcutta,IIM Lucknow and IIM Indore. But there is one drawback that you are fresher and you dont have any previous job background which can be a problem for you. So,yes you will surely get call from top IIMs at 99 percentile because it is very good marks.

Hope This Helps

Best Of Luck!!
