L&T Infotech withdraws 1500 placement offers; adds to Flipkart, CarDekho fiasco
Larsen & Toubro Infotech has recently withdrawn around 1500 placement offers made to various Tamil Nadu post graduate students, citing poor performance in an assessment test. The rejection of the students came after 18 months of the final campus placements. The refusal by L&T Infotech has added a blotch to the ongoing B-School placement debacles owing to the deferrals by Flipkart, CarDekho and HopScotch. Recently the e-commerce giants deferred the joining dates of IIM graduates citing reasons of restructuring processes.

L&T has said that the offer letters given to the students were withdrawn because of their poor performance in the consequent online test. Almost after 18 months of the job offer, around 1500 students were asked to appear for an assessment test by the L&T officials, which assessed them on the ongoing projects. Based on the performance in the test, the students’ placement offers were rejected without any prior notice.
The recent ongoing circumstances have not only affected the placement trends of top B-schools, but it might affect the status quo between the companies and officials. B-schools now feel that the recent crisis may mar the reputation of e-commerce recruiters in campus placements across top B-schools in India. “It is likely that students will not apply next year to the specific companies that change terms of employment from what was promised on campus during pre-placement talks,” says an official from an affected IIM.
Recently e-commerce firms like Flipkart, CarDekho, and Hopscotch among others have told IIMs that the joining dates of the recruited students have been postponed by three to six months. According to the media reports, IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, and IIM Udaipur are among the few top B-schools which have been notified by the companies about the deferred joining dates.
