IIHMR University facilitates tribal students on completing CPRL
The School of Development Studies, IIHMR University has celebrated the efforts of the 29 tribal students, who hardly have basic facilities including water, sanitation, proper nutrition in their respective areas, by conferring them with the certificates for successfully completing the 6-month long Certificate Programme in Rural Livelihoods (CPRL) on their annual convocation day.
Keeping in mind the diverse tribal geographies in India, the CPRL programme has been specially designed by University to build the capacity of the students beyond theoretical and classroom learning by professionally training them to take up leadership positions in their respective areas. Bharat Rural Livelihoods Foundation (BRLF), Mr. Pramathesh Ambasta, who was the chief guest of the event, threw light on the poor condition of various tribal communities and discussed how the various schemes aimed towards rural development never get implemented.
“The tribal population comprises 8.5% of India’s total population. This community has fallen behind on providing the basic facilities like water, sanitation, irrigation, road construction and proper nutrition to its people. Despite the Government incurring a large expenditure on various schemes aimed towards rural development, these schemes are not getting implemented properly at the grass-roots level. There is a significant need for people to be trained professionally in order to comprehend the underlying challenges of the tribal areas,” said Mr. Pramathesh Ambasta during his speech.
President, IIHMR-University, Dr Pankaj Gupta said the course, CPRL, was specially designed to make the tribal students self-sustainable and take the lead in solving the problems in their respective areas.
“As the tribal regions are a very specific area such a uniquely designed course with countrywide representation from across 6 States will facilitate integrated learning across a wide spectrum. The fieldwork done by these students serves as a unique opportunity for skill development beyond theoretical and classroom learning,” added Dr Pankaj Gupta.
The three-day program saw a session on job readiness for the fourth batch of CPRL course on the first two days followed by the convocation program on May 29. The vote of thanks on the occasion was delivered by Prof Rahul Ghai So far, three batches of 29 students each have already passed out from the University and they are all contributing to fostering development transformation in the tribal state of India like Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh.
