CAT 2014 Exam Pattern: The CAT 2014 exam pattern has undorgone a massive change in terms of duration, number of question and section timing. It would remain a computer based objective type test with multiple choice questions. The exam will have two sections- Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation and Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning. Instead of 30 questions in each section, CAT 2014 will have 50 questions making the total number of questions to be 100. Earlier the number of questions was 60. The duration of the exam has increased by 30 minutes which is now 170 minutes or 2 hours and 50 minutes. Unlike past years, the sections are not time bound and the candidates can switch between sections any time during the test.  It is assumed that the marking scheme will remain the same as previous years. Each question carries 3 marks and there is negative marking of 1 mark for wrong answers.

The signature on my CAT Admit Card is not at all visible when printed on A4 size sheet. However when i zoom in it in the mobile or laptop it is clearly visible. kindly help regarding the same.

Rehan Alam Student Expert 23rd Nov, 2019

Dear Aspirant,

This may be because of the quality of ink used by the printer. Some shopkeepers have very bad ink used in theirs. I suggest you should go to a different shop or ask the shopkeeper to use the best quality ink/printer to print your admit card.

Hope this helps. Thanks.

how many seats are available in ipu cat

apuroop sri durgesh 22nd Nov, 2019

Hi Dadheech, there is no exam called ipu cat. Either it might be lpu cat or ipu cet. Based on those assumptions, I would say for Lpu cat exam, you can join mba after it, there are 360 seats for it and for ipu cet, there are roughly 4360 seats including all branches of engineering.

Hope this helps.

All the best.

what if I clear CAT as well as interview, and get selected, but my last semester of graduation results are not out?

Priyaanka Sarkar Student Expert 22nd Nov, 2019

Shubhi, Final year Graduates are given admission provisionally. Which means, by the time of admission, if the final year results have not been declared yet, you will have to get a letter from the Head of your Institution that you are a student at this Institution and as on the date of the letter issued, you fulfil the eligibility criteria for admission on the basis of CAT. Once your results have been declared and you get your documents, you will submit them in the MBA College and your admission will be finalised. Until then your admission will be provisional subjective to your final year results.

I want to know the Syallbus of cat exam

Priyaanka Sarkar Student Expert 22nd Nov, 2019
Ashish, IIM has never set any predefimed syllabus for CAT. But based on previous years papers, syllabus has been assumed and has been practised. CAT exam paper can be Categorised into 3 parts:

Quantitative Ability
Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension
Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning

Quantitative Aptitude covers almost 30% of the CAT question paper. QA can be categorised into Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry and Advanced Mathematics. Practise chapter by chapter and develop mental calculations. Like practise more of basic summation, subtraction, fractions and tables. Numbers, Percentage, Profit and Loss, Simple and Compound Interest, Ratio, Proportionality, Time-Distance, Time-Work, Mixtures, Averages, Partnership, Permutation and Combinations, Probability, Set Theory, Progression and Series, Line, Angles, Triangles, Quadrilaterals, Polygon, Circles, Ares, Volume, Height and Distance, Coordinate Geometry, Basic Trigonometry are few important topics.

In Verbal Ability session, command on your English, Grammar, Vocabulary, Understanding of the given paragraph are of more importance. Reading English NewsPaper will also help you in your preparation

Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning needs to be practised as much as possible. Comparison of data, Data Analysis, taking clues, interpreting missing data, coming to conclusions and making future projections will be covered under this Category. The questions here are interlinked and so if you get one formula correct, cracking the next few questions will be easy. So it's important to memorise and practise formulae. You should cover topics like Data tables, Data Charts, Bar Diagrams, Pie Charts, Graphs, Data Comparison and Analysis.
