AICTE shuts 5 year integrated MBA; IIM Indore IPM remains unaffected
In a notice directed to universities and other management schools, regulatory body All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has asked them to shut down the integrated five-year MBA programmes, from the current academic session. IIM Indore’s five year integrated programme in management at IIM Indore, however, remains unaffected, as it is an autonomous institution under the purview of the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
AICTE issued the notice on May 19 addressing all Affiliating Universities and institutions, regarding the awarding of BBA-MBA Degree to the admitted students in the AICTE approved BM/BAM/MAM programmes. The decision of ending five-year integrated MBA programme was taken by a committee founded by AICTE to examine the continuation the dual degree programmes in management introduced in the academic year 2012-13.
The notice also states about an exit option at the end of the three years for the students, who have joined the dual degree courses in 2015-16 or prior to that. Such students will be awarded a BBA degree instead of BM or MBA degree. In addition, students in their fourth year can complete the entire degree, and will be awarded a BBA/MBA degree by the institute/university.
Official AICTE notice
IIM Indore- Five Year IPM Unaffected
The said regulation by AICTE is applicable to AICTE approved institutions and other universities. On the other hand, IIM Indore is a Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India affiliated institute, meaning the five year integrated IPM stands unaffected by the order.
After the notice by AICTE, IIM Indore issued a statement regarding its five year integrated MBA programme, mentioning that the said AICTE notice is not applicable to the said programme as the institute is under the purview ofHRD Ministry. The notification states , “IIM Indore’s attention has been drawn to media reports regarding a recent circular of the AICTE related to the structure of BM/BAM/MAM programmes offered by AICTE-approved institutions affiliated to different universities. IIM Indore is an autonomous institution under the purview of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The said circular is not relevant to the 5-year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) offered by IIM Indore. IIM Indore is committed to the continuing excellence of the IPM, one of the flagship programmes of the institute.”
IIM Indore launched the five-year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) in 2011 and was the first to launch and integrated dual degree programme in management. First 3 years of the programme offers under graduate curriculum and the next 2 years is the post-graduate management study, which is equivalent to the 2 year PGP programme offered by IIM Indore.. IIM Indore conducts IPMAT or IPM Aptitude Test, a national level entrance exam, for the admissions to the programme.
Other Universities offering Dual/Integrated management programmes
The dual degree or integrated MBA programmes are offered by many universities and other management institutes. The universities that offer such programme are mostly governed by University Grants Commission (UGC) and not AICTE, remaining unpretentious by the notice.
Some of the noted universities that offer dual MBA degree under UGC approval include OP Jindal Global University, offering integrated BBA-MBA programme affiliated by UGC; Amity University, which offers BBA + MBA (Dual Degree) at its Noida campus; Nirma University BBA-MBA programme, Sharda University MBA (Integrated) programme to name a few. NMIMS School of Business Management also offers five years integrated MBA- Family Business, approved by UGC.

Give a sample answer to "Why IPM?" question asked during IIM Indore IPM interview.
Whenever you are asked Why us?, you need to talk about their Programme, Faculty and Placements. Until before Management courses, were after Bachelor's degree barring BBM. By that time a student has already spent 3 years of his/she life trying to understand the basics before he/she takes up a core Management Course. But an Integrated Course right after 12th helps a Student to be prepared for relevant and updated foundation and management education. Its curriculum is a combination of analytical thoroughness and exposure for leadership roles and responsible positions in various sectors. The Social Internship, Student Exchange programme, Rural engagement programme and Himalaya Outbound Programme will help the student inculcate leadership qualities, managerial skills and strike a balance between Academic and Social lifestyles.

How do I answer "Why IPM" in IIM Indore interview?
The Integrated Program of Management is a five year course leading to a Management Degree, was introduced by IIM Indore. There are various integrated programs like in Accountancy, Law, Humanities , Management, etc. Why do you choose an integrated program?
When you have clarity of thought in your career objective without any vacillation then the integrated course is the best as it gives you the unique opportunity to fully master your career choice. You pass out highly educated knowing fully well that you need not do another course immediately to gain ascendancy when it comes to employability.
That is your fundamental reason!
I scored 91% in 10th, 82% in 12th and I have passed out b.tech graduation with 59% (in 2019). Right now I dont have any work experience and I am planning to write CAT in Nov 2020. Is it possible to get into top MBA colleges with above credentials.
Yes you are eligible for pursuing MBA. The eligibility criteria for MBA is to have graduation degree with minimum 50% score.
Admission to MBA depends on the entrance exam score. Graduation percentage is considered to fulfill eligibility criteria.
