how many seats are available in ipu cat

apuroop sri durgesh 22nd Nov, 2019

Hi Dadheech, there is no exam called ipu cat. Either it might be lpu cat or ipu cet. Based on those assumptions, I would say for Lpu cat exam, you can join mba after it, there are 360 seats for it and for ipu cet, there are roughly 4360 seats including all branches of engineering.

Hope this helps.

All the best.

what if I clear CAT as well as interview, and get selected, but my last semester of graduation results are not out?

Priyaanka Sarkar Student Expert 22nd Nov, 2019

Shubhi, Final year Graduates are given admission provisionally. Which means, by the time of admission, if the final year results have not been declared yet, you will have to get a letter from the Head of your Institution that you are a student at this Institution and as on the date of the letter issued, you fulfil the eligibility criteria for admission on the basis of CAT. Once your results have been declared and you get your documents, you will submit them in the MBA College and your admission will be finalised. Until then your admission will be provisional subjective to your final year results.

I want to know the Syallbus of cat exam

Priyaanka Sarkar Student Expert 22nd Nov, 2019
Ashish, IIM has never set any predefimed syllabus for CAT. But based on previous years papers, syllabus has been assumed and has been practised. CAT exam paper can be Categorised into 3 parts:

Quantitative Ability
Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension
Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning

Quantitative Aptitude covers almost 30% of the CAT question paper. QA can be categorised into Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry and Advanced Mathematics. Practise chapter by chapter and develop mental calculations. Like practise more of basic summation, subtraction, fractions and tables. Numbers, Percentage, Profit and Loss, Simple and Compound Interest, Ratio, Proportionality, Time-Distance, Time-Work, Mixtures, Averages, Partnership, Permutation and Combinations, Probability, Set Theory, Progression and Series, Line, Angles, Triangles, Quadrilaterals, Polygon, Circles, Ares, Volume, Height and Distance, Coordinate Geometry, Basic Trigonometry are few important topics.

In Verbal Ability session, command on your English, Grammar, Vocabulary, Understanding of the given paragraph are of more importance. Reading English NewsPaper will also help you in your preparation

Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning needs to be practised as much as possible. Comparison of data, Data Analysis, taking clues, interpreting missing data, coming to conclusions and making future projections will be covered under this Category. The questions here are interlinked and so if you get one formula correct, cracking the next few questions will be easy. So it's important to memorise and practise formulae. You should cover topics like Data tables, Data Charts, Bar Diagrams, Pie Charts, Graphs, Data Comparison and Analysis.

is cat only for admission you management institutes ?

Priyaanka Sarkar Student Expert 22nd Nov, 2019
Nidhi, that's correct. CAT is the entrance examination for admission to Management programmes. The highest qualification one needs to have to appear for CAT is a Bachelor's degree in any discipline with a minimum aggregate of 50%. It is 50% for General Category and 45% for Reserved Categories. Now CAT is the brainchild.of IIMs. Every year an IIM conducts CAT. This year, it is IIM Kozhikhode. Along with the 20 IIMs, there are approximately 1000 Institutions that accept CAT score. And every Institution has its own selection criteria. For example, IIMs shortlist candidates for the interview stage based on their own criteria, which may be independent of each other. The process may include Written Ability Test, Group Discussion, and Personal Interviews. Performance in the CAT examination is an important component in the admission process. IIMs may additionally use other factors such as the previous academic performance of the candidates, relevant work experience, gender and academic diversity and other similar inputs in shortlisting and ranking of candidates at various stages of the admission process. The processes, academic cut-offs and the weights allocated to the evaluation parameters may vary across IIMs. And other top B schools also follow the Group Discussion and Personal Interview format. Now, CAT is an online entrance examination. It is of 3 hours duration. The questions in the exam will be of MCQ and TITA type totaling 100 questions. MCQ are multiple choice questions, for which candidates get multiple answer choices. Each Question has 3 marks and a wrong answer takes away 1 mark. However Type in the Answer questions are exempted from Negative Marking.

CAT exam paper can be Categorised into 3 parts:

Quantitative Ability
Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension
Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning

The Verbal Ability section and Reading Comprehension has 34 Questions, Data interpretation-Logical Reasoning section has 32 MCQ questions and Quantitative Ability has 34 MCQ questions totalling up to 100 questions. Each Question has 3 marks and a wrong answer takes away 1 mark.

I am able to score in 60 65 in Time mock and in a dilema what will happen in CAT.

Priyaanka Sarkar Student Expert 22nd Nov, 2019

To be honest, this is not the time for pondering what might happen. This is the time to give all your concentration in memorising what you have learnt. Remember that you cannot go to the future and make any changes. All you can do is make sure your present is good because it is in your hands. We understand that this is the exam that your future depends on. But also remember that this is just a Mock Test and not a real test. So keep that in mind and work hard for few more days. Who knows, you might surprise yourself with a better percentile? Just to let you know how CAT percentile is calculated.

Now CAT has 3 sections. There are also Non MCQs which do not have negative marking. This answer is being written by taking QA sections as an example.

  • Calculating the no.of Candidates who appeared for CAT
  • Assigning ranks based on the CAT score
  • For example if 2 people scored 20 marks and got the rank 120, the next Candidate will get the rank 122
  • Calculate the percentile using the formula:  P = (N−r)/N × 100

Now the catch here is the no.of people appearing for the Test. In reality more people will appear for CAT rather than for Mock Test. And this way the chances of your percentile increasing are much better. Now that you are hardly left with a day or 2, try following these:

  • Do not learn anything new. Keep memorising all that you have learnt and praactised so far
  • Go through the Exam pattern and syllabus once
  • Focus on the topics that you have strong hold on. Practise them rather than learning something that you are finding difficult to crack
  • Sleep well the night before because the last thing you want to happen in the exam hall is to feel tired and sleepy.

And including your admit card, please carry along with you any one among your Voter Id, Aadhar Id, PAN Card, Passport, Driving License. For exam day guidelines, please visit our page at: https://bschool.careers360.com/articles/cat-admit-card
