Excerpts from the interview.
Careers360: XAT 2014 results have been announced. How many candidates are in 100 percentile bracket?
Prof. Vishwa Ballabh: This time we have four toppers in XAT 2014 and they are put in 100 percentile bracket.
Careers360: XAT results have been declared on January 20. It was quite unexpected for the candidates as it was mentioned that the result would be declared by January 31. What made you to declare the XAT 2014 result so early?
Prof. Vishwa Ballabh: Yes, we had earlier mentioned that the XAT 2014 result would be declared by January 31, 2014 and not on January 31. This already makes the idea clear that it can be on any day before the said date. However, we took the decision to declare it early in order to prevent any unpleasant cyber malfunctioning such as hacking, server failure etc.
Careers360: How is the overall performance of candidates who took XAT 2014?
Prof. Vishwa Ballabh: The overall performance of the candidates has been good. Compared to last year, the performance of the test takers has been lower. The candidates have scored lower in the Quantitative section compared to the other sections. This is also because candidates felt that the difficulty level of the section was little more compared to the last year. We didn’t make the section tough deliberately but probably due to exam pressure they could not score higher in Quant.
Careers360: What are the expected cutoff percentiles for XLRI BM and HRM programmes?
Prof. Vishwa Ballabh: We will declare the cutoffs for the PGDBM and PGDM HR programmes by Thursday, January 23, 2014. However, last year, the cutoffs were 92.25 percentile for PGDBM and 88 percentile for PGDM HR.
Careers360: When will XLRI declare the shortlist of candidates for GD/PI rounds?
Prof. Vishwa Ballabh: We are expecting to declare the shortlist of candidates for the next round of selection process by January 23, 2014.
Careers360: When will be the GD PI rounds conducted at XLRI Jamshedpur?
Prof. Vishwa Ballabh: Though the final dates are yet to be decided but in all probability, the GD/PI rounds will be held in the third week of February, 2014.
Careers360: What is your advice for the candidates who would be appearing for the GD/PI rounds at XLRI and those who could not score as per their expectations?
Prof. Vishwa Ballabh: The candidates who would be shortlisted for GD/PI rounds should prepare themselves as they still have one month to go. Wishing them all the best!

Hello there. Hope you are doing good. I would like to tell you that if you are targetting top colleges accepting XAT score. Then, it is mandatory to clear sectional cutoffs. You need to score well in each section. Moreover, considering past year XAT scores, you should score approximately 26-27.5 score in order to fetch 80-85 percentile in XAT. You can attempt the questions based on accuracy accordingly.
