Prepare Academic Documents

CAT 2019 results are out. Post declaration of the CAT result, excitement and anxiety might sweep away important aspects from one’s mind. For further rounds, candidates must keep their academic and professional certificates handy. Moreover, certificates should be attested, especially the degree and mark sheets.

Check Application Deadlines of Colleges
There isn't much time left in the admission process to start and it is very important to fill and submit application forms of colleges before the deadline. There might not be too many application forms available at this stage, and missing the ones which are available is not recommended. So, candidates should start tracking the application status.

Check Selection Parameters of Management Institutes

More than two lakh candidates appeared for CAT 2019 which was conducted by the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta. Candidates are shortlisted for the admission process in different IIMs on the basis of their CAT scores. There are 20 IIMs in the country and each one of them has different admission criteria. It is imperative to have a thorough knowledge of the selection parameters of management institutes. All the IIMs usually follow a two-step selection process. They are -

  • Common Admission Test (CAT)

  • Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI)

However, all IIMs do not conduct any common counselling process. The six new IIMs conduct Common Admission Process (CAP) which includes common WAT and PI rounds. The newly formed IIMs, IIM Sirmaur and IIM Jammu, both mentored by IIM Lucknow do not conduct WAT-PI rounds and declare merit list based on CAT score, past academic records, work experience and diversity factors.

Gear Up for Next Level of Evaluation

As already mentioned, apart from CAT, there are various other evaluating rounds which B-Schools exercise for selecting candidates, namely Writing Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD), Personal Interview (PI), Essay Writing. Moreover, a few of the institutes consider work experience as well. After CAT results, candidates should focus on equipping themselves with relevant skills to master in the mentioned skill sets. This stage varies from college to college. Based on the overall performance (CAT score, PI, GD, Past Academic Records, etc), the college will offer admission to candidates.

Few Questions that might be asked in the Personal Interview (PI) round are -

  • Why MBA?

  • Why pursue MBA from this college?

  • Why do you want to do MBA in (name of specialisation)?

  • How do you spend your leisure time?

  • Introduce yourself

  • What are your strengths and weaknesses?

  • Why should we select you?

  • Questions from the work domain

  • Questions from your current Company & its financial state, if applicable

  • Questions from your graduation academic area

  • Learn about social issues in India and the global economy.

I have scored 64 pecentile in cat do i hold any chance of getting call from any of the imt campus?

Sampriti Student Expert 17th Jan, 2020
You can get a call from IMT Hyderabad and Dubai campuses. The GE/PI rounds of IMT Nagpur, Hyderabad and Dubai campuses happen together and that for  the Ghaziabad happens separately. There's no separate process for the remaining 3 campuses. You'll be allotted either Hyderabad or Dubai campus based on your performance in the Group Exercise and Personal interview.

The CAT cutoff for IMT Ghaziabad is 90 percentile, for Nagpur campus it is 70 and for Hyderabad and Dubai it is 60. You'll get an email regarding the campuses you've been shortlisted for.

All the very best

is doon business school good for 70.8 cat percentile

Sampriti Student Expert 17th Jan, 2020
Doon Business School is an average college for management education but since you've a decent CAT percentile so you can look out for some better options. You can check out the following colleges
  • BIMTECH Noida
  • XISS Ranchi
  • Prin LN Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research Bangalore
  • IMT Nagpur and Hyderabad
  • IMI Kolkata
  • NDIM New Delhi
  • JIMS Rohini
  • ICFAI Business School
  • Globsyn Business School Kolkata
These are pretty good colleges and you can easily get a good company with an average compensation package of 6 lakhs. They also offer good ROI. Though some of the colleges like BIMTECH and ICFAI Business School charge a little higher fees which is 12lakhs and 14.1 lakhs respectively but plethora of reputed companies visit the campus offering high salaries.
For Doon Business School, though the fees is less than 5 lakhs but the placements are not up to the mark and with your percentile you can go for a better college.

All the best

Manisha Gupta Expert 17th Jan, 2020

Hello Aspirant,

Based on this CAT score the chances are less to get a call from any of IIMs, But you can have the chances to get a call from the colleges.

IPE Hyderabad
Balaji Institute of Modern Management, Pune
Alliance School of Business, Bangalore
IISWBM Kolkata
Siva Sivani Institute of Management, Secunderabad
ITM Business School, Navi Mumbai
SDMIMD, Mysore

You can check your other best possibilities with CAT Pathfinder Tool.

Along with CAT score all the colleges in which you apply makes a merit list to call the students for the second round of interview and WSAT which is made in the basis of your aggregate score and which is based on different parameters such as CAT marks, 10th, 12th and graduation percentage, work experience, engineer or non-engineer, gender etc. whose weightage vary according to different colleges.

Good Luck!

my cat percentile is below 70, is there any chance that i will be further considered if i score well in micat?

Pranav Mishra 17th Jan, 2020

Hello Aspirant,

As far as last year cutoff is concerned which is 78 percentile in CAT you have no chance. Getting good score in MICAT can get you a call till 75 percentile at some conditions but getting less than 70, In my opinion there is no chance, However MICA also accept XAT score so, if you have good percentile like 75-80 in it than you have a chance to convert it.

I hope the above information is beneficial for you.

All the best.
