The members went on to discuss the need to have a separate segment to take care of the rural market. Prof. Jagdish Sheth highlighted the significant role of government initiatives like Make in India and Digital India that organise lower income consumer markets through scale and efficiency.

The industry participants present at the roundtable brainstormed on how the unexplored rural market and low income consumer group can be tapped through innovative marketing strategies like converting unbranded to branded consumption, non-users to users, developing used goods market, inventing new ways to distribute products, developing aspirational brands, and repackaging the products in smaller sizes to make it affordable.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Himadri Das, Director MDI Gurgaon said “We are considering setting up a Center for BoP Marketing, to be mentored by Prof. Jagdish Sheth. This will be run as an industry consortium sponsored research center where consortium members will finance the center to do research that is of relevance to them. The research output will first be shared with the consortium members before publishing in academic journals.”

The seminar was also attended by MDI faculty members and research scholars. Prof. Sheth impressed upon them on how time management and stress management become a key in producing high quality research output while balancing other demands on their time. He said faculty should balance between newsworthy research, memorable teaching, and transformational service.

My 12th score is 90 (best 4) otherwise 89. 10th is 92 Grad is 65.77 plus 5 months work ex Is it possible for me to get a call from MDI Gurgaon or equivallent colleges?

Rehan Alam Student Expert 4th Nov, 2019

Dear aspirant,

Yes you can very well expect a call from all the IIMs except for IIM-A/B/C at 99.30 percentile. Certainly you can get a call from MDI also. However, if you are expecting a call from one of the top 3-4 IIMs, then you have to score a minimum of 99.50 percentile.

Hope this helps. Thank you.

My 10th score is 9.6 cgpa &12th score is 93.5% and college cgpa is by far 8. I want to get admissn in MDI ggn, how mch shd I score in CAT?

Priyaanka Sarkar Student Expert 21st Aug, 2019

Dear Manavi, the basic eligibility criteria remains 50% Aggregate in Graduation for General Category and 45% for Reserved Categories. For admision to MDI Gurgaon, the following Composite score calculation method is used:

  • CAT Weightage: 60%
  • Group Discussion, Personal Interview and WAT: 20%
  • 10th, 12th, Graduation, Work Experience, Academic diversity: 20%

Now coming to CAT weightage, now that CAT is conducted at 2 different slots, IIM Kozikhode follows a unique method of calculating the score.  IIM Kozikhode will normalise the CAT scores using percentile equivalence. Adjustment of location and scale differences of score distributions across different norms and then scores will be normalised. These scores will be then converted into percentiles for shortlisting and selection purposes. And B Schools have been giving sectional preference to CAT scores to calculate CAT score. While FMS gives importance to VARC section, all other major IIMs give weightage to QA section. Going by the previous year cut offs, to get into MDI, your CAT score should be nothing less than 93-95%. The reason for their higher cut offs can be justified by their placement opportunities. 138 PPOs were offered to MDI students by 106 participating recruiters. The average salary was 20.13 lakhs and the highest domestic salary was 40.79 lakhs. A candidate with an excellent academic track, has all eligibility criteria points, good communication skills and analytical skills and possesses the ability to take up challenges is called an ideal Candidate. And with your academic track, you can make it to MDI, if you can score a percentile of atleast 95. Last year 55% of CAT score is given weightage. And for an example we shall give you an idea of score for each section of CAT exam and its overal weightage so as to let you prepare accordingly.

IIM                    QA         DLR         VARC         Overall

Ahmedabad                65           65              65               70

Bangalore                   70           70              70               75

Calcutta                       65           65              65              70

Indore                           70          70              70              80

Lucknow                      77           77              77              82

The following formulae are used to calculate your 10th, 12th and Graduation scores:

  • 10th Standard: 36*[Z Candidate-Z min/Z max- Z min]

  • 12th Standard: 40*[Z Candidate-Z min/Z max- Z min]

  • CAT 2019 score: 20*[Candidate's overall score /Highest CAT score]

  • Gender Diversity Factor: = 4 for female applicants

=0 for other applicants

  • Composite score= sum of the above scores

Remember, that there is no PASS or FAIL score in CAT. Its a measure of your performance among other applicants. Better the percentile, fairer the chance of getting into Top B schools. For example, if your score is 90 percentile, it means you did better than 90 percent of the Candidates who applied. Now cracking CAT and faring better than a certain percent of Candidates totally depends on how you prepare.

Depending on your Category, your CAT percentiles should be near to these numbers:

General Category: 95+

OBC-NCL: 85+

SC: 65+

ST: 55+

I have 60% in 10th, 47% in 12th and 64%in b.com graduation .Can i get admission in MDI gurgaon or FMS or IMI or FORE after clearing CAT exam

Hansa Gupta 2nd Aug, 2019

Hi neeraj,

Thanks for the question.. You can definitely get admission in any of the college provided you prepare well for the cat exam and also crack group discussion and interview with flying colours. .as the B schools you mentioned doesn't emphasise more on past academics although in some Institutes you mentioned might have eligibility criteria like minimum 50% required in 10th and 12th...so do take note of such Institutes before filling there forms as you have less than 50% in your 12th..

All the best

Is MDI Murshidabad as good as MDI Gurgaon

Sampriti Student Expert 28th Jul, 2019

There's a huge difference between both the campuses. MDI Gurgaon is a well established campus and trusted among recruiters. MDI Murshidabad has not flourished yet. Moreover the placements there are not very good. The current batch was promised to be transferred to the Gurgaon campus for their first trimester but later the plan was dropped because of the batch strength. Moreover the campus fails to attract recruiters because of the place it's located in. But you can definitely look out for some other options you can get with your percentile in the vicinity of industries.

Good luck
