Excerpts from the chat:
Neeraj Gupta: My question is that, what are the eligibility factors to apply PGDM-Healthcare at TAPMI? Is a medical background mandatory?
Prof. Chowdari Prasad: Thanks for your interest in our 4th batch PGDM HCM. It is not mandatory but it is definitely an advantage. Even para medical, pharmaceutical, dental, biotech and biomed grads are also welcome to take up this program.
Ragini: What is the last date of applying TAPMI Manipal?
Prof. Chowdari Prasad: It was originally January 15, 2013 but it was extended to February 5, 2013 to accommodate XAT candidates, which is over now. Now we are shortlisting to start GDPIs in Mumbai on February 27.
Ragini: Which exam scores are you accepting? Does it include CMAT February 2013 as well?
Prof. Chowdari Prasad: We accept CAT, XAT and GMAT scores. No, do not accept CMAT scores.
Pooja Joshi: Please share some placement statistics of TAPMI.
Prof. Chowdari Prasad: TAPMI has consistently been recording 100% placements for long years. The data for last four years is in our website pages. The average salary is Rs. 8.01 lakh while the highest is Rs. 15.5 lakh.
Pritesh Ponkiya: How many seats are there for the PGDM course? Is work experience mandatory?
Prof. Chowdari Prasad: We have 360 seats in PGDM. Work experience is not mandatory but adds in your profile as also in class room learning of management.
Neeraj Gupta: What are the career prospects of PGDM Healthcare Management?
Prof. Chowdari Prasad: Healthcare graduates not only get in to hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, but also in to consulting, insurance or research firms.
Himanshu Agarwal: What is the difference between MBM and MBA?
Prof. Chowdari Prasad: We offer PGDM on autonomous basis. MBA and MBM are more or less similar offered by Universities.
Himanshu Agarwal: What is integrated MBA?
Prof. Chowdari Prasad: Integrated MBA is the scheme of 10+2+3+2 education. After plus two you are joining a UG i.e. BBA and with an opportunity for MBA; which is called Integrated.
Pritesh Ponkiya: What is the selection ratio at TAPMI?
Prof. Chowdari Prasad: We have high records; some years back we received 10,000 applications for mere 120 seats. We observe high cut-off levels, call for GDPI, test on written skills and verbal communication besides overall suitability as a potential manager.
Divya Khare: Sir is it true that a person who has done B. Tech+ MBA is offered more salary as compared to a person who has done BBA+MBA, or is it a myth?
Prof. Chowdari Prasad: It depends how you shape up during your MBA. But, because of difference in Engineer vs. others, there may be some difference in salaries.
Mayur Desai: Is it true that TAPMI Manipal got AACSB Accreditation? Could Please elaborate about its importance?
Prof. Chowdari Prasad: We are the first one to go in for this AACSB accreditation which is a global recognition for our quality.
Mayur Desai: When would TAPMI release the list of GDP PI call getters? Or it is released already?
Prof. Chowdari Prasad: All Mumbai Centre followed by Ahmedabad names will be announced in the website shortly.
Mayur Desai: Do you encourage Profile based selection in TAPMI, Candidates having 80%ile have good chances of conversion?
Prof. Chowdari Prasad: Yes Mayur, subject to further performance in GD, WAT, PI and others.
Swapnil Tale: Do we need to send CAT scorecard to TAPMI?
Prof. Chowdari Prasad: If shortlisted, you need to bring a copy of all certificates and CAT Score card for GDPI.
Pooja Joshi: Is there a common placement there or separate for the specializations?
Prof. Chowdari Prasad: We have one Placement wing; students wing also work hard in this task. But, placements will happen separately for PGDM and HCM.
Mayur Desai: As per last year data how much score one need in GMAT to apply for TAPMI Manipal?
Prof. Chowdari Prasad: Last year, it was around 600 in GMAT. But, it may be higher this year in view of stiff competition.
Mayur Desai: How many International firms had visited campus in last year?
Prof. Chowdari Prasad: This year, an Oman company recruited our graduates.
Pritesh Ponkiya: What is the fee structure at TAPMI for PGDM course sir?
Prof. Chowdari Prasad: PGDM costs Rs. 9.90 lakh while HCM is Rs. 9.50 lakh for two years program; hostel, food, etc are extra.
Pritesh Ponkiya: Any scholarship offered? What are the criteria to avail them?
Prof. Chowdari Prasad: We generally do not offer any scholarships. Five students every year are awarded Ratan Tata Scholarships on merit during 2nd year. All top scores are given awards at the Convocation annually.
Anisha: I have applied through XAT, but I have taken CAT also. My score for XAT and CAT are 43.80 and 62.86 percentiles respectively. Do I have chance through XAT or CAT? I want to add my CAT details in the form, is it possible now?
Prof. Chowdari Prasad: Your scores are comparatively low and I am afraid you may not be called for GDPI. Please work hard to score more in next chance, if you are aiming at top B-Schools in India.
Pritesh Ponkiya: How much cut offs are there for CAT and XAT?
Prof. Chowdari Prasad: TAPMI follows profile based shortlisting in its admissions. It refers to a candidate's overall profile i.e. academic performance is reckoned and not mere CAT score only.
Swapnil Tale: Please let me know my chance of getting a call. My scores are: CAT - 88.94 percentile (QA 86.91 VA/LR 86.91); Xth - 85%, XIIth - 68.6 %, B. Tech 71.71%. No work experience. Good at extracurricular activities.
Prof. Chowdari Prasad: You have a fair chance. All the best. Wait for our announcement on net.
Apeksha: Are hostel facilities available for girl? How far is Manipal from Bangalore? Does the institute have its own transportation system?
Prof. Chowdari Prasad: Separate hostels for girls are available. Manipal is about 450 km away from Bangalore. Local conveyance facilities are available in Manipal aplenty.
Anisha: I have a small confusion. While filling up the form under work ex there was an option of selecting the company and the tenure in that company with the from-date and the to-date, since I'm still working in the same company I could enter only the latest date back then although I have given my total work ex in months on a separate tab. Will this cause any harm?
Prof. Chowdari Prasad: During interview, we will add up the work experience.
Anisha: While filling up the form there were fields like co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Since I could not find all the certificates I did not fill much information. After going through this thread it seems that TAPMI also segregates people based on their overall profile. Can I cover this up during GD/PI i.e., can I mention and talk about it without producing the documents?
Prof. Chowdari Prasad: Not exactly Anisha. It shows up your personality with versatile traits. It will be discussed during interview. Best wishes
The next chat will be held on Friday, February 22, 2013 with Pramod P Thevannoor, Director at School of Communication & Management Studies (SCMS), 4 pm onwards.

Tapmi vs great lakes vs liba which is better
TAPMI may have a slightly higher reputation being a constituent of Manipal University, I believe Great Lakes has a huge locational advantage being located near IT, Corporate and Finance Hubs of Chennai and nearby Bengaluru will provide greater career scope and prospects to training and placements. Hence, you may consider Great Lakes over TAPMI and LIBA.
For more information about Great Lakes do follow the link below
