TAPMI: The cut off for CAT and XAT is 80 percentile and for GMAT the cutoff score is 600.
Careers360: What is the total number of seats in the 2015-17 programme?
TAPMI: The programme wise break up of seats offered is,PGDM (420); PGDM-BKFS (30) and PGDM-HCM (20). There has been no change in the number of intakes compared to last year.
Careers360: What is the fee structure for the programmes?
TAPMI: The Tuition fee is Rs. 13.50 lakhs for 2 years including hostels, same as last year.
Careers360: What are the final selection criteria at your B-School?
TAPMI: We have dropped GD this year. The shortlisted candidates will have to appear for Written Ability Test (WAT) followed by Personal Interview. Good academics, Extracurricular activities and work experience are provided due weightage.
Careers360: What is the ratio of the number of shortlisted candidates and final admission offers?
TAPMI: Our current shortlists based on the cut-off indicated above, gives us a ratio of 1:10 (i.e. for every final offer to be made we have 10 shortlisted candidates).
Careers360: What are the important dates for the admission process including the GD-PI-WAT schedule, declaration of final result and commencement of programme?
TAPMI: The WAT- PI process will start from 3rd week of Feb 2015. WAT-PI is conducted across 10 cities in India. We would be releasing the results on last week of March.
Careers360: What are the likely topics which the candidates should prepare for the GD-WAT rounds?
TAPMI: For WAT, we expect candidates to be prepared with mix of topics ranging from Business, General Economy, Sports, Socio-Political, Religion, etc. Some of the topics are abstract while some are based on exact situation. We value the candidate’s ability to clearly articulate his/her view around a definite stand on issues with multiple possible opinions.
Careers360: What are the qualities which you look for in the prospective students?
TAPMI: Everybody who applies for PGDM program definitely wants to be a Management graduate, but the key question is – Are they sure of why they want to do a Masters in Management?
Scores achieved by a candidate in an entrance exam is just a small part of the total evaluation process. We look for a right mix of scholastic achievements, a positive attitude, willingness to deal with ambiguity rather than shun it and reasonable work experience.
Careers360: Have you introduced any change in the curriculum this year?
TAPMI: At TAPMI, curriculum is upgraded yearly. New courses are also introduced as per Industry requirements and inputs from Board of Management Studies of the Institute.
We are focusing on making the program more professional through experiential learning. We have introduced a lot of simulations in the last three years. This particular year, we have introduced a simulation titled ‘Brand Pro’ of the well-knownenterprise - Markstrat, in the marketing course for the first year students; For the second year students, we started an exciting course titled “Student Managed Investment Course” (SMIC) wherein the Institute has given a corpus of â¹ 10 Lakhs to team of 35 handpicked students. The entire course is evaluated over the period of three terms by a team of faculty and a panel comprising of Managers from Mutual Funds, Hedge Funds and PE firms.
There are many such simulations that have been in the curricular practice here over the last 5 years. The program is likely to become more and more experiential and less and less classroom oriented. Also, we are reducing the load on teaching time and increasing the self-learning practices considerably.
Careers360: How do you conduct the induction/orientation programme for the candidates?
TAPMI: Induction/orientation programme is very much required. It helps in getting to know the institute and its activities. It makes the students competent and ready for the program.
TAPMI has a formal two day formal induction program. An eminent person from the Industry speaks about the MBA education and how the industry looks up to them followed by welcome address by our Director. Then, Area chairs introduce the each of the faculty followed by activity heads brief the students about Alumni affairs, Placements, MIP, PGP program and also Infrastructure facilities of IT, Library, Hostel in the institute. Dean- Academics explains them about the academic life informing about trimester system, Outcome based learning expectation, credits as also what to and what not to expect.
Since they are from various streams, all students undergo the online prelims programme “The Young MBA Induction Pack” offered by M/s. FLIP.The course covers Basics of Accounting, Financial Statements, Finance Basics, Tools for Business: Excel & PowerPoint, Business Maths / Statistics.
TAPMI follows case methodology of teaching in most of the courses. There is a credit course called MAND, Managerial Analysis for Decisions which helps them to better understand.
Informally, seniors also interact with them every evening to put them at ease.
Careers360: What are the USPs of your B-schools on the basis of which the MBA aspirants would opt for admission?
TAPMI: The USPs of the institute can be listed as below:

TAPMI has adopted “Outcome-based learning” in which each course has objectives and learning outcomes. We have also introduced a lot of simulation games along with Case method of teaching.

TAPMI: Know about yourself, your plans for the future well. If you know yourself well, you will succeed. Be clear; think well. Don’t get nervous if you don’t know the answer for a single question. Be natural, yourself and confident. We are in need of “good” people and not “smarties”.
