Dr Vishal Talwar, Assistant Dean for EMBA and BBA programs at SP Jain School of Global Management.
Careers360: What is the USP of the BBA program offered at SP Jain School of Global Management?
Dr. Vishal Talwar: The SP Jain Global BBA has many value adding initiatives that have been designed to maximise exposure and knowledge. We offer tri-city programme of 4 year duration spanning across Singapore, Dubai, Sydney and Mumbai. In the first year, a student has the option of studying either in Singapore or Mumbai, the 2nd year takes you to Dubai and the final 2 years of the course is completed in Sydney. In these four years, the students study with peers from all over the world. In fact, in 2015, we had 30 different nationalities studying our BBA. Our network enables students to embark on global careers and coupled with that is the post study work opportunity in Australia by virtue of completing the last two years of the course in Sydney.
Careers360: While the duration of the BBA or undergraduate management program at other institutes/universities is 3 years, it is of 4 years at SP JainSchool of Global Management. How does the institute utilize this extra year?
Dr. Vishal Talwar: Being a globally recognised BBA program, we have to pit ourselves with the best as well as adopt structures that are internationally relevant. For those students wishing to pursue their Master’s in the US would have to have 16 years of formal education to be eligible for such a Master’s. Our BBA being a 4-year course helps them fulfil this eligibility criterion. Being a career and employability focused course, our students spend much time interacting with the corporate world, undertaking internships and immersion projects.
Careers360: What is the eligibility criteria and admission procedure for the candidates applying for the program?
Dr. Vishal Talwar: Students having appeared for or appearing for their 12th Standard examinations are eligible to apply. We expect a minimum of 65% in these school leaving examinations. Once the candidates meet our eligibility criteria, the admissions team would then invite them for an aptitude test and a personal interview.
Careers360: What is the total intake and fee for the program for this batch?
Dr. Vishal Talwar: Our intake for the 2016-2017 batch ranges between 250-300 students and given below is the fee structure for the programme:
Registration fee, tuition fee and others
Student housing (optional)
Careers360: What is the total number of application received for the current and previous academic year?
Dr. Vishal Talwar: Last year we received approximately 1000 applications for our BBA program. This year, we have already received 900 applications and expect the number to be far higher than previous years.
Careers360: How has been the placement for this program?
Dr. Vishal Talwar: Our BBA students get placed in countries such as Australia, Singapore, Dubai, India, Brazil, Vietnam, US & Germany. Out Top BBA recruiters for 2014/15 include Bloomberg, KPMG, Citibank, Ogilvy and Mather, Heinz, Samsung, Grant Thornton and McKinsey Solutions.
Careers360: How do you plan to enrich your flagship management program in next 1-2 year?
Dr. Vishal Talwar: We constantly endeavour to keep on improving the experience of our students, whether that is in the curriculum, global learning activities, internationally recognised faculty etc. A forward thinking educational institution like ours cannot rest on our laurels and we have to constantly strive hard to maintain our superiority.
Careers360: What is the basic difference of BBA programs offered in India and abroad?
Dr. Vishal Talwar: The BBA programmes offered in India have a largely theoretical orientation with a focus on textbook knowledge dissemination. However, we at SP Jain Global believe that a program as important as BBA should provide far more than just business management theory. It should be interactive, industry relevant, enhance global learning as well as sow the seeds of leadership from the word go. This is why we emphasise on developing employability/entrepreneurial capability, time management, teamwork, personality development, critical thinking and communication.
Careers360: How do you foresee the BBA program scenario in the coming years?
Dr. Vishal Talwar: A BBA is emerging as one of the most sought after bachelor degree programs. It’s viewed as a versatile option which established corporates are increasingly recruiting from. At the same time, family business owners are also sending their sons and daughters to our program to help contribute value and leadership for their businesses in the future.
Careers360: Where do the BBA students stand in terms of the MBA students in terms of employability and placement scenario?
Dr. Vishal Talwar: These are distinct courses with equally distinct value propositions. The BBA is a four year undergraduate degree and an MBA is a postgraduate degree which if done from good international schools will require you to have work experience prior to joining. Both these programs are enjoying great traction and our BBA program provides the right environment and learning to excel in both family managed businesses as well as in a broad range of corporate jobs the world over.
