Delightful, Enchanting and Modernâ¦
Samer Akhtar defines his campus, “The aura that Great Lakes offer is one to experience. One falls in love with the campus and then words fall short”. Be it submissions of assignments or participation across various extracurricular activities, events or conferences, the life is all packed and rocking. Every Great Lake students refer themselves as ‘Lakers’, which indeed defines the connection.
The delight of the campus enhances when every Laker on the campus are rushing for their mid night submissions, few rushing for cake cutting ceremonies, talks about integrated marketing communication or developing the next business idea.
The Great Lakes campus is contemporary, sophisticated and stands through with that perfect touch of modernity. The institute is equipped with infrastructural, technical, academic facilities which are required by students for a healthy and standard living. Also, a touch of modernity can be seen by the addition of the Buddha statue in the open space of the academic building. Adding to the glory of Great Lakes, Nidhi Agarwal adds, “The sky is especially beautiful and extra-blue on the ECR road and with the lovely sky looming above you at night, the open-air area around the Buddha statue in the academic block is bliss of this campus”.
The Activities aroundâ¦
We asked Steffy, Great Lakes student about the fun activities in which the students are mostly indulged in the campus when they are not studying, he responded, “Post classes the students indulge in sports like football, basketball, cricket, table tennis etc. while some head to the gym and some decide to get their musical instruments and treat themselves and the others to some beautiful jamming sessions.” The college with its surreal beauty, heady mix of modernism and nature, enthusiastic students is a treat during events and takes the excitement to a whole new level.
Another fun insights shared is about the Kamban, which is the epitome of boys’ hostel fun and mayhem in Great Lakes. It is said (as in the campus) that once you enter Kamban you do not leave as the same person. Be it waking up in other rooms at the middle of the night, roller chair racing, rain dancing or even birthday parties, the boys’ hostels take it to the next degree of fun.

Hangouts, Lingos and Grapevineâ¦
Usually a college has a few hangouts like maximum 5-6 cool places to indulge in activities they like. But here, at Great Lakes they have a list of hangouts, so many places to gather, gossip and spend leisure time. These being the Car parking, Kamban rooms, Syndicate room 4, behind the Amphitheatre, Basketball court, the road to temple, which sounds cool, the utility room and so on. Guess students have a hideout at almost every corner of the campus.
Priyanka and Raghvi, Great Lakes super girls also share info about the college informal and formal grapevines of communication. “We do have a few Facebook pages. One for the complete batch, a few section-wise (we have 4 sections) and some for Karmayoga projects where all the updates are shared. There are a few Dropbox portals for all other data related needs of the students”, they mention. Along with that they have The Telegraph, which is the fastest way of spreading the college latest news, happenings in and around campus.
Now the lingos are some of the really cool we have heard. It seems they as if they are coming directly from their heart, and are simple, effortless and fun. Read these,“Agle term se tera bhai padehga”, “Phod diya subject ko”, “Phodu”, “Acche din aane wale hain”, “Ab ki baar, students ki sarkaar”.
Adding to these, Nupur Agarwal shares other interesting lingo’s, “5 minutes bache hain deadline meâ¦submission ho gayana”, “Dumps mile kya”, “Assignment hua kya”, “Class jana hai kya”, “Aaj fir class miss ho gai yaar”, ”Tension na leâ¦teri motivation bhi nahi aithi aaj”, “Aaj quant ki class nahi haiâ¦sleeveless pehen sakte hain”, and we love the last one! Seems like such an opportunity for girls to get into their fav sleeveless clothes!
With so many special hangouts and cool lingos, Great lakes and Life@ this campus undoubtedly seems to be the best and worth spending your precious years. You get only one chance to select the best and unique for yourself and no one wants to miss that opportunity. It is said that the best comes in small packages, but it’s a total opposite when it comes to Life at Campus Great Lakes Institute of Management, Chennai.

Hello! Can I Know About the Weight age given for Academics?
Please mention about which stream you want to know.
If you are asking in general then it is just a bar which is kept as eligibility criteria by college , institutes and organizations for selection or admission. So it is important to score above 60% which is quite stable and makes easy to go through the process. There are institutes like IIT and NIT where you can take admission only if you have 75% in 12th
Many MNCs hire candidates with eligibility criteria above 65 -75 also.
But there are many other option also where your skills will be considered over your academics score.
Hope it helps!
