MBA in India or abroad - A Global MBA in which you study in a foreign country might be slightly costly but worth it for the exposure that it gives you. Careers360 tells you about the extra edge that a global MBA offers and how you should decide whether you should pursue MBA in India or Abroad. Read the complete article below to know more.

With global India becoming a reality, internationalization of MBA programmes has increasingly become a key goal for Indian B-Schools but deciding MBA in India or Abroad is still a question for the students. What is meant by the internationalization of MBA programme? It is the process of combining intercultural, international and global dimension into research, teaching and service of institutions.

Internationalization is done in order to enhance the quality of research, education and international exposure for each student. With today’s managers required to be equipped with skills to perform effectively across different markets, managerial education is going through a pattern shift both in terms of approach and ideology across the world. The pattern shifts are caused by two main factors -- brisk internationalization of the business environment and economic recession.

Global vs Homegrown MBA

Currently, a majority of B-Schools offer Global MBA programme that entails a semester or minimum 18-20 weeks abroad. Earlier, students would get to spend only two to three weeks abroad. For instance, MYRA School of Business Mysore offers Global MBA programme in the twinning (1+1) format where Global MBA students spend their first year with MYRA at their Mysore campus before moving to Dalhousie University in Canada for their second year. As per Dr. Shalini Urs, Executive Director, Founder and Chairperson, MYRA School of Business, “By enrolling in a Semester Abroad programme, you’ll have the chance to see a side of your major that you may not have been exposed to at home. You’ll find that completely immersing yourself in the education system of your host country is a great way to really experience and understand the people, its traditions, and its culture. Education is the centrepiece of any Semester Abroad trip—and choosing the right school is a very important factor”.

As a business professional, one of the key requirements of a job is to network with people. You never know which connection gets you more work. It is the best setting to make life-long friends and extend these partnerships beyond the classroom within the international ecosystem. Some of them may even head some top-notch organizations later in life.

What does Global MBA offer?

MBA with an international touch to it prepares future leaders and managers to create an international mindset so as to enable them to cherish global political, economic, legal and cultural realities to live and work across diverse cultures. For example, Management Development Institute (MDI) Gurgaon offers Post Graduate Programme in International Management (PGP-IM) where the first phase of the programme is delivered at the MDI campus in Gurugram, while the second is completed in ESCP Europe at the Paris, Berlin, Madrid, London, Warsaw and Torino campuses. The semester abroad covers aspects like Business Game, Team Building, Leading Teams and Organizations, Entrepreneurship, Creativity & Innovation, Ethics and CSR, Marketing and Business Analytics in a cross-cultural environment. For MBA Programme in ESCP Europe, applicants must have a minimum of two years’ work experience and a previous four-year degree with a non-business educational background.

What Next?

As per the placement report of SP Jain School of Global Management (SP Jain Global) for its flagship Global MBA programme of 2017 batch, the average salary had increased by 14 percent as compared to last year, which was Rs. 16.52 lakh per annum. This year, the average salary of the batch is Rs. 22.52 lakh per annum. According to the placement report, the top recruiters included Indian multinationals such as Tech Mahindra and Tata Trent along with global organizations (specifically, Southeast Asia, Europe and the Middle East) such as Societe Generale, TESCO, Hewlett Packard, Cummins, Salesforce, Henkel, JDA and Xchanging. The Consulting sector, followed by the IT and Logistics sectors were the biggest recruiters this season. The highest salary offered was Rs. 48 lakh per annum. “At SP Jain, we believe that our success is measured by the impact of our graduates in the business world. Our alumni are leading cross-cultural teams, growing family businesses, developing digital initiatives, incubating new ideas, working with local governments, participating in community initiatives, consulting at Fortune 500 companies and travelling across the globe. They have done extremely well in the global workplace and that is why companies believe in our model, sums up Dr. Indu Niranjan, Dean, SP Jain’s Postgraduate Programs.

Hello Tompala,

GMR School of Business was established in 2013 by GMR Group and it offers two years full time MBA course, accredited by AICTE, India.

The admission process is based on scores of English Proficiency Entrance Examinations like TOEFL, IELTS, PTE Academic, YELT or GMAT.

Candidates are also required to have a minimum of B average in their graduation (UG).

It is mandatory to have either of the above mentioned proofs of English Proficiency. You can seek admission without GMAT if you have another proof of English Proficiency.

Is it possible to get a call from IIM Ahmedabad with 93% in 10th, 95% in 12th, 85% in B.Tech from Tier 3 college without any internships and extra curricular activities and 99%tile in CAT?

Anshu Saini 20th Feb, 2020
Hi aspirant,
IIMs are known to raise their bars of the expected percentile in the examination. The general bracket of the accepted CAT percentile ranges from 95 to a 99.98 percentile so as to get you a PI, that is, a Personal Interview call from the IIM institutes. In regard to this they also consider 12 and 10 class marks and grade them. With your score you have fair chances of getting a call from IIM ahemdabad but you have to clear analytical written test (AWT) and personal interview for admission. Follow this link for more details-

registration date of GMAT and Exam date of GMAT in 2020

Shivam bhardwaj Student Expert 27th Jan, 2020

Hello Sohan,

Hope you are doing well.

As there are no specific dates for conducting GMAT 2019, prospective test takers can choose a date according to their convenience. However, candidates have to take at least 16 days’ break between two attempts. Also, one cannot exceed five GMAT exams within a 12-month period. A candidate can take no more than eight re-tests in a lifetime.

Feel free for further queries.

Good luck
