Why would execs choose this course over a fulltime executive course?
The idea is - without leaving your job, join a prestigious institute. And, if someone is at a very senior position, they may feel uncomfortable attending a class due to the age difference with fellow mates. But in this particular environment, everyone will be comfortable. Further more, our fulltime PGDM (Executive) course at IMT, Ghaziabad, has only 60 seats and 6000 applicants! Online, we can admit any number of students.
How did you tackle the issue of quality faculty?
Classroom teaching in regular programmes at B-Schools have two components - inputs by industry experts and lectures delivered by fulltime faculty. Time and geography is a major limitation for these industry experts. In our model, they can deliver lectures from their office itself. So, lots of people are interested in this model. Secondly, while there’s a crisis for quality faculty in B-Schools, for this course faculty has the same flexibility as students. We have tie-ups with 60 to 70 B-Schools across the globe, plus our own five campuses, and we can hire faculty from any part of the globe, as they can deliver lectures from their respective location. For instance, if a faculty in the finance area is good at IMT’s Dubai campus, then they can deliver the lecture from Dubai. We also introduced, with the help of technology a new concept – virtual workshops. Last year we organised five online workshops in marketing, HR, operations, personality development and communication skills and operations management.
What if one misses exam due to one’s work schedule?
The exam system offers much flexibility. We have a network of centres across the country, where candidates must go, but they have the flexibility to choose test timings. Whether you want to appear at 6 am or 11 pm, or only on weekends, you can select your slot as per convenience. These are non-open book exams, which comprise subjective and objective components and a case study.
So, one needs to be savvy with the online medium?
In my opinion anyone working in the corporate world is or at least needs to be savvy. If not, then we are not looking for that candidate. Anyways, the young generation spends 70% of they are spending online.
Can students at various locations interact with peers?
Why not? Interactivity is inbuilt in the Learning Management System developed by IMT. The GD component is very much there, plus you can question faculty during live lectures.
What is the candidate profile?
Ideally, they must have minimum three years of experience and be working with a good company. Even NRIs are eligible due to the mode. However, we would consider smart candidates who may not be working with a known name, and will see what capacity they are working in.
