There are 25 questions in this section. The topics range from Sports, Literature, Awards & Recognition, Entertainment, Geography, Advertisement & Marketing, Business, History, Politics etc. The questions are a good mix of static GK and current affairs. MICAT Section- 2

This paper bears subjective type questions. There is no right or wrong answer in this part. All questions in this part are compulsory and your paper will not be evaluated if you do not attempt all the questions.

Essay Writing/Argument

This part includes a statement followed by 3 questions.  The first and second question will be about writing 5 points each in favour and against the statement. The third question is to write an essay of 200 words either favour or against the statement. According to the instruction, no marks will be awarded in case of neutral view point.

The statements of MICAT 2014 and MICAT 2013 would give you an idea about the type of topics to expect:

MICAT 2014 - It is ethical to sell fairness creams

MICAT 2013 - Facebook is leading today’s youth astray

In order to crack this question, you must have a good hold on the written communication skill. Keep your arguments and essay straightforward and support with facts and data. Avoid using ornamental English or jargons unnecessarily. The simpler is your language; more convincing it would be for the test takers.

It is also important to have the ability to build an opinion on the given statement and establish your point of view. As mentioned in the instructions, a neutral or balanced view point won’t count.

Story Writing

In this question, you will be given a number of pictures and you have to build a story based on those pictures. Apart from your creative skills, the ability to connect the dots between different images will come to your aid. Although there is no particular preparation strategy, if you are well read and have a knack for story writing, you will be on the edge. The best way to crack this section is to let your creative juices flow.

Last minute tips for MICAT 2017

Now let us have a look at the last minute preparation and practical tips to follow before the D-Day.

Solve past years’ question paper – The best way to get acquainted with the question types and the exam structure is through solving past years’ question papers.

Do not start with new topics – This is a universal rule for every exam. Do not start with a new topic at the last week. If you have already appeared for MBA entrance exams like CATXAT, SNAP, you must be prepared for the Quant, VA, DI & LR and GK sections. Be confident on your preparation and focus on revision rather than starting a new topic.

Prepare for CBT mode – MICAT will be held in a Computer-based mode for the first time. Hence, take the mock tests online, in a proctored environment. The more you practice the test in CBT mode, more you will be comfortable on the exam day.

Focus more on the subjective part – As mentioned above, all the questions in Part 2 are compulsory to attempt, you must focus more on this part. Spend as much time as possible to think critically and answer in a creative manner.

Keep your admit card and other documents ready – The MICAT Admit Card has been made available by MICA from Februay 6, 2017, onwards. If you are yet to download it, do it right away. The admit card includes the details of your test venue, timing and test day instructions. Do not forget to take a print out and arrange all the necessary documents or ID proofs you need to carry to the test center. The reporting time is 9 AM.
