IIM Rohtak will be conducting the IIM Common Admission Process in 2017 for the admission to batch of 2019 at the nine new IIMs. This is the second time that IIM Rohtak is conducting the process since the inception of the Common WAT-PI rounds. Incidentally, IIM Rohtak was the first among the new IIMs to coordinate the CAP for new IIMs in the year 2011.

The nine IIMs which would be a part of CAP 2017 include IIM Raipur, IIM Ranchi, IIM Tiruchirappalli, IIM Udaipur, IIM Kashipur, IIM Amritsar, IIM Bodhgaya and IIM Sambalpur. IIM Nagpur, IIM Visakhapatnamand IIM Sirmaur, mentored by IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore and IIM Lucknow respectively will not participate in the CAP rounds.

What is Common Admission Process?

In order to save the time and resource of the IIMs as well as the candidates, the new IIMs conduct common selection process including Writing Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI) rounds. Each participating IIM shortlists and selects candidates based on their individual admission criteria. Separate merit list will be generated by the IIMs.

PI and WAT Venues

The Personal Interview and Written Analysis Test would be conducted at New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata.

In cases where candidates have been shortlisted by the nine IIMs as well as older IIMs, IIM Rohtak would obtain the PI & WAT scores of such candidates directly from the older IIMs. Such candidates will be informed in advance by IIM Rohtak, and they need not appear for the common PI & WAT of the “9 IIMs.”

The dates of the WAT-PI rounds will be announced by IIM Rohtak after the CAT 2016 result is declared in the second week of January 2017. It is expected that the Common Admission Process of the IIMs will be held in March-April, 2017.

Last year, IIM Kashipur was the conducting body for the process preceded by IIM Udaipur. CAT 2016 will be held on Sunday, December 4, 2016 in forenoon and afternoon slots.

how to prepare for CAT exam ? what syllabus to study?

N sayadeevi 10th Dec, 2019

Hello there !

Looking for CAT exam is one of the easiest ways to get into a top institutes for pursuing your MBA for admissions into the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) . apart from the IIMs, the CAT is also a prerequisite for admissions into numerous other prestigious management colleges across India. The Common Admission Test (CAT) is a computer based examination with a duration of 180 minutes.

Syllabus for CAT: It mainly consists of 3 sections

  • CAT Quantitative Aptitude: The syllabus for CAT quantitative aptitude mainly includes topics from class 8-10 like geometry, algebra, number system, etc.
  • CAT Logical Reasoning & Data Interpretation: The logical reasoning section is very generic and a wide variety of questions based on seating arrangement, direction sense test, etc. are included. The data interpretation section includes questions mostly based on data caselets and graphs.
  • CAT Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension: In this section, comprehension passages are given followed by a few questions. Apart from that, few of the grammar-based questions like sentence completion, jumbled sentences, etc. are asked.

Preparation for CAT:

  1. Exam regulation: The first thing you prepare for is getting to know the exam pattern and syllabus of CAT in detail.
  2. Textbooks and Study Material:There are ample number of study materials available even for those who do not take coaching for CAT. One can get each of these study materials first hand online at only around INR  500.
  3. Go for Online Mock Tests which will be issued for someone for free
  4. Have a study group with which you interact on a daily basis only on the subject of CAT in particular
  5. Confidence and Motivation will only secure the will power for you to go the heights of your MBA degree.

Can I give cat exam in my 4th year 1st sem... Now m in 3rd year..

Atharv Mungikar 9th Dec, 2019

Hello,

Most of the students from B. Tech sit for CAT exam in their final year. You will be considered as a fresher and most of the questions asked in the interview will be done from your B. Tech field. But according to my knowledge, students having some experience are preferred more in the colleges. I recommend that you start gaining experience from the 7th SEM and register and then give your CAT exam before your 8th SEM because after the interviews colleges generally ask for graduation certificate for a proof that you have graduated. Some interviews also require you to show the pre-final year notice (a letter from UG should work)

I hope this helped.

All the best.
