Excerpts from the exclusive interview:
Q: Why did you decide to take IIFT entrance exam?
A: All I wanted was a college of good repute that can give me the experience MBA stands for. IIFT is consistently among top 10 B-schools of India. MBA (IB) at IIFT provides great learning, exposure and career prospects. These reasons were enough for me to join IIFT.
Q: Apart from IIFT, which other MBA entrance exams did you attempt last year?
A: I took CAT 2012, SNAP 2012 and NMAT 2013 apart from IIFT 2012.
Q: Which were the B-schools which offered you final admission? What made you choose IIFT over others?
A: I had converted MDI Gurgaon, NMIMS Mumbai and SIBM Pune. IIFT is easily above SIBM and NMIMS. While in case of opting between MDI and IIFT, I selected IIFT due to its 50 years of history of imparting education as well as its smaller batch size.
Q: How different or similar is IIFT entrance exam compared to the other MBA entrance exams?
A: The preparation pattern to achieve a high percentile in IIFT exam is a lot similar to CAT. The advantage is that the preparation topics, practice questions are to be kept on the same line as that of CAT. The add on section is General Awareness which can improve or reduce the percentile, if not taken care of.
Q: How was your experience of the post exam selection process of IIFT?
A: Getting selected into IIFT was a proud moment as I feel getting into MBA (IB) at IIFT is more difficult than getting into any of the other top B-schools. Based on written score, shortlisted students had to fill a detailed form, after which GD and PI process started. The experience was very smooth, with no glitches.
Q: Do you think IIFT should be transformed to a computer based test like CAT, MAT, TISSNET and IRMA Issues of Social Concern?
A: I don’t think IIFT should go just with the trend. There are a lot of advantages of a paper pencil based test for students appearing the exam. And as long as it’s not delaying the process, there is no need to make it computer based. In fact, IIFT has the record of coming out with results earlier than many other exams and colleges.
Q: Describe your life at IIFT. What do you think is the USP of the B-School?
A: Life at IIFT has been eventful. There have been euphoric moments that make it worth it. Smaller batch size is definitely the USP of this college, where you get to know closely not only all your batch mates but also your senior batch.
Q: Do you think it is justified to award extra marks to female or non engineering candidates to maintain diversity in the class of MBA?
A: Gender or academic diversity while MBA is really important to shape up one’s thinking. But awarding extra marks for it is not fair for students appearing the exam. Newer ways can be thought to bring in the diversity instead of awarding free extra marks.
Q: Where do you want to see yourself five years down the line in terms of career?
A: My short term goal is to learn everything I can about marketing. I want to find a position where I can contribute what I've learned through education and to gain real-time experience applying the same knowledge as diversely as possible.
Q: What would you like to advice the IIFT 2013 candidates?
A: Avoid wasting time on one question. You may have less than one minute per question as against in CAT where you have approximately 3 minutes per question. Time consuming, confusing questions with doubtful answer options may not be attempted to save time and to avoid the penalty.

what should be my Sectional cutoff in iift exam 2020
This is the sectional cutoff of IIFT exam 2020:
Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension 18-20
Quantitative Analysis 16-20
Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning 18-20
General Awareness (GK) 8-10
This sectional cutoff is for Delhi IIFT. So for other IIFTs it will be slightly lower.
Is iift consider your past academics record
- Hey, acccording to my opinion IIFT does not consider your past academics record . iift consider your good percentile WAT,PI and GD scores .if you are clear sectional cutoff and over all cutoff then you are eligible for shortlisted candidates .i think IIFT DELHI AND KOLKATA ARE THE GOOD CAMPUS . I THINK YOU SHOULD SCORES GOOD PERCENTILE THEN ACADEMIC RECORD DOES NOT MATTER FOR YOU FIRST YOU SHOULD GIVE TOTAL FOCUS TOWARD ENTRANCE EXAM.....
3.5 months are enough to crack CAT and IIFT exams ? Can anyone suggest me the study plan ? I am targetting maximum 97% in CAT and 145 marks in IIFT.
Sectional Division of Overall Preparation
Know your strengths along with weaknesses
Accept the importance of previous year question papers
Coaching or self-preparation
If you are preparing for CAT exam on a serious note, there won't be any problem preparing for IIFT too, provided you know the correct strategy for it! only the strategy of how you should play in the required format changes. So is the case with IIFT and other similar entrance exams apart from the CAT.
Firstly, from this year onwards, IIFT is conducted by NTA, so for the first time this year, IIFT will be conducted online just like any other MBA entrance exams! So there are two pros mainly I can think of -
- We don't have to spend our time circling the answers.
- We don't have to separately get accustomed to the paper based format from now.
This exam mainly consists of six sections -
- Reading Comprehension
- Verbal Ability
- Data Interpretation
- Logical Reasoning
- Quantitative Ability
Hope it helps
Thank you & Good Luck!!!
