IIFT 2016 entrance exam, conducted by Indian Institute of Foreign Trade is being taken by approximately 50,000 MBA aspirants across India. Being one of the toughest tests and of unpredictable nature, the test takers are often worried about their performance despite preparing well and completing the syllabus. Before the exam is conducted, they have different thoughts flooding their minds while standing in the queue.
On the other hand, after the exam is over, each candidate has a different take on the paper. The easy and difficult sections in the paper depend on the strong and weak areas and overall difficulty level is based on time management and number of accurate attempts. Careers360 reporters spoke to the IIFT 2016 test takers to bring to you the reactions regarding the paper.
IIFT 2016 Student Reactions
Raghav: I am a working professional, hence I could not get time for taking coaching. I prepared on my own by practicing from previous years’ papers. I just hope my hard work brings positive result. Verbal Ability is my forte. I am nervous about Quant as I was never strong in Maths. DI & LR is the section in which I am not too strong, not too weak either. Planning to give my best shot in the next two hours!
Pratibha: I am not too confident as I have not prepared too well for IIFT. Maths and Logical Reasoning are my strong areas. I am worried about time management and have not thought about any particular strategy. I will just attempt easy questions from all sections and plan the move afterwards. This is my first MBA entrance exam and attempting it as a practice test. I am also appearing for CAT, XAT and SNAP. I did not take proper coaching but took test series for practice purpose.
Shashi: I have prepared really hard for the test for more than three months. I took coaching from a well known institute. Apart from regularly attending classes, I practiced previous years’ question papers and took mock tests. Time management is the key here. I will attempt eight to nine questions from every section first and then look into other questions. Quant and Logical Reasoning are my strong areas. In Verbal Ability, I am comfortable with RC but not too good in grammar and vocabulary. I am appearing for IIFT entrance exam as I am really keen to pursue MBA (IB) from IIFT Delhi. Since I am from Delhi, I hope I get admission in the Delhi campus itself. Apart from IIFT I am also targetting admission in IIMs and FMS.
Keshav: I would rate my preparation level to be moderate. Going by the fact that I have not taken coaching, I think I prepared well. Quant is my strong point whereas GK is the weakest one. I plan to attempt maximum questions from Quant.
Tanpreet: I am quite confident about my preparation. Although I could only take out two to three hours for studying since I am working, but thanks to my coaching institute’s faculty members for guiding me through the right path. For the exam, I will start with the English section first, followed by Maths and DI & LR. GK would be the last section. Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best!
Nishant: Since IIFT is paper pencil based test, I had taken special preparation for it my taking paper pencil based mocks and devising time management strategy. Maths and DI & LR are my strong sections.
Anupam: Right now I am a bit nervous about the paper. Maths is my strong point. I will start with this section and maximise my score by attempting as many questions as possible, followed by DI & LR. GK would be the last section. I have prepared on my own. The paper pencil exam format is advantageous for me as I am used to take exam in this mode itself.
Arun: This is the first MBA entrance exam I am writing. I have prepared on my own and I feel that my preparation level is up to the mark. Quant and DI are my strengths but I am nervous about the Verbal Ability section. I will also appear for CAT.
IIFT 2016 Post Exam Student Reactions
According to them, the overall exam was of easy to moderate difficulty level. Majority of the candidates found out that Verbal Ability and DI & LR were the tough sections.
Anshul: The Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning section was one of the lengthiest owing to the long caselets. However, the questions were not too tough and managable.
Vikas: I started the exam with Verbal Ability section owing to the lengthy RC passages and tough vocabulary. After that I attempted DI & LR. The questions of all the sections were quite easy. But the main challenge was time management.
Celestia: The overall experience is quite good. I have given my best shot and attempted as many questions I could. For me, GK was the easiest section followed by Quant. Surprisingly, VA & RC section was quite tough. There were lot of vocabulary questions, especially on the origin of words, which I had no clue about. I left out such tricky questions.
Rahul: Apart from the time management, there was no challenge in the paper. The DI & LR section was time consuming owing to calculation intensive questions followed by VA & RC. Maths and GK were the most comfortable areas for me. I really hope that I clear the cutoffs.
