IIFT 2016 exam held on November 27, 2016, brought many surprises for the test takers. The easy to moderate paper carried 123 questions in total with highest weight-age given to the Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning section. Unlike previous years, the weight-age for Quantitative Ability section was reduced. While the questions were of easy nature, they were pretty lengthy which posed the real challenge for the test takers in terms of time management. Let’s have a look at the overall IIFT 2016 exam pattern.

Now we will analyse each section in detail in terms of difficulty level and topics covered as shared by the test takers of IIFT 2016.

Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning

This year, the section was given highest weight-age with 42 questions in total. The difficulty level of this section was of moderate. The topics covered in the sections include Caselets, Tables, Bar Graphs and Line Graphs among others. Anshul Sharma, an IIFT 2016 candidate shares, “The Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning section was one of the lengthiest owing to the long caselets. However, the questions were not too tough and managable.” Vikas, another test taker shares that owing to the crunch in time, he attempted six out of 42 questions and focused more on the Quantitative Ability section.

Arks Srinivas, CEO, VistaMind Education shares, “Unlike previous years, the Data Interpretation questions were not calculation intensive. Rather, the Logical Reasoning questions were tricky.”

Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension

This year, major focus was put on Vocabulary questions. More questions were asked from the English Usage than the Reading Comprehension area. The Reading Comprehension passages were quite lengthy as per test takers. Ankur Jain, Chief Knowledge Expert, T.I.M.E mentions, “English had a lot more vocabulary questions and of unfamiliar variety. These on the knowledge (and not so much reading skills) and therefore that section is considerably tougher. Cutoff of English is likely to fall.” The overall difficulty level was easy. The total number of questions in this section was 36 and the total marks allotted was 31. Sannidhya, one of the test takers says, “The overall section was easy to moderate. While the Reading Comprehension passages were easy, the vocabulary questions were quite tough for me. A person with good vocabulary would have scored fair marks.”

Quantitative Ability

The total number of questions in this section was 20 with each question carrying one mark. The questions were of easy to moderate level. The topics were from the usual areas which included Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Number Systems, Trigonometry and other Higher Math areas. Some of the questions were calculation intensive.

General Awareness

This section was on the expected lines. Out of 25 questions, there was an equal mix of static GK as well as current affairs. The topics included Politics, Business & Economics, Film/Entertainment, Geography, Personality, Science and others. Most of the candidates found that the questions were not too tough. Since the sectional cutoff is lowest in General Awareness, it won’t be much of a challenge to clear the cutoff of this section.

Cutoff expected to be higher than last year

According to Arks Srinivas, the overall IIFT 2016 cutoff is expected to go up owing to the easy level of difficulty.  The following table brings to you the sectional cutoff for IIFT 2016.

I want to do MBA in finance so should I give XAT and IIFT apart from CAT

Aptron Gurgaon 10th Oct, 2019

The practical value of a Bachelors or Master's degree is controversial for a Hadoop developer because few of the big data companies contracting for Hadoop developers demand a degree just to eliminate their pile of resumes.  Companies believe that university educational plans are excessively focused on theoretical aspects however being a Hadoop developer requires real world problem unraveling capabilities. For some of the specialized big data roles like that of a data scientist, companies prefer candidates who have completed PhD in a measurable or numerical discipline. In this way, in the event that you are from a Statistics, Physics or business examination foundation - you can definitely create a meaningful benchmark as a Hadoop Developer in the workplace by mastering Hadoop skills with real time hands-on projects.
