Compared to IIFT 2012, each and every factor of IIFT 2013 was same, be it the number of questions, marks per question, sections, or marking scheme. Arks Srinivas, Founder Chairman, VistaMind Education and Director, Vanguard Business School says, “The IIFT 2013 paper was ditto as last year. Generally test takers go inside the exam hall expecting surprises but this year there was nothing of that sort. For me, it was a positive point from the aspirants’ point of view.”
There was a mention of the sectional cutoff as well.
First let us have a look at the structure of the IIFT 2013 paper before going towards the section wise analysis of IIFT 2013.
IIFT 2013 Paper Structure
Number of Questions
1 for QA & DI, 0.75 for VA, RC & LA and 0.50 for GA
1/3 of allotted marks
Number of choices
The difficulty level of the exam was moderate to tough. While some sections can be rated as easy to moderate, some sections were quite difficult and lengthy. More than the difficulty level or the paper pattern, the skill lied with time management.
Aditi, an MBA aspirant who has just completed her engineering says, “The paper was manageable as per the question types or difficulty level was concerned. However, time was the most crucial factor. There were 128 questions and only 2 hours, it was very tough for me. Initially I was at ease looking at the comfortable question paper, but after an hour the time factor hit me and I hurried up to solve the rest of the questions.”
Nivedita, a working executive with 3 years of experience says, “I didn’t find the paper too difficult, but yes, Quant and DI were definitely on the toughest side. I took several mocks before the test so found it pretty easy.”
GK and VA & RC sections were considered among the easiest by majority of the IIFT 2013 test takers. Vartika Anand, an IIFT 2013 test taker says, “The paper was moderate. For me, QA was the toughest section and GK was the easiest. I have attempted 89 questions.”
The Quantitative Ability section had 25 questions with 1 mark each. Hence the total marks of the section 25. The difficulty level if this section was moderate to tough. According to Srinivas, this was among the toughest sections. “Not all questions in QA can be termed as tough, some were moderate and manageable. Compared to the other sections, it was among the toughest.”
Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning
The number of questions in the Data Interpretation section was 19 and in Logical Reasoning there were 20 questions. While DI questions had 1 mark each, LR had 0.75 marks per question. The total marks of this section were 34. The overall difficulty level of the section was moderate to difficult but the section was the lengthiest and time consuming. “DI was the most time consuming section. The difficulty level can’t be termed as easy either,” Srinivas mentions. Suneha, another IIFT 2013 taker says, “DI & LR section took the maximum time during the paper. Though I found QA to be the toughest, but it was not that much time consuming compared to this section.”
Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension
The section was divided into 2 parts, Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension. The Verbal Ability section had 20 questions of 0.75 marks each. The total marks were 15. The overall difficulty level of this part of the section was easy to moderate. There were 4 passages each bearing 4 questions. The passages were not tricky and were not too long as well.
“There was absolutely no difficulty in solving the VA & RC section. The questions matched the areas I had prepared for. The passages were of moderate length and easy to comprehend with direct questions,” shares Akash, an IIFT aspirant who took the exam in Delhi.
This section had 28 questions with 0.5 marks per question. The total marks were 14. Undoubtedly this was among the easiest sections. Out of the 28 questions, 9 were on current affairs and rest were on static GK. “The General Awareness section was very easy. Majority of the questions were on static GK. Current affairs questions were few and they were on politics and general business,” mentions Siddharth, an IIFT 2013 candidate.
IIFT 2013 Expected Cutoff
The IIFT 2013 exam had sectional cut offs similar to last year. This compelled the candidates to attempt each and every section and maintain a balanced performance. Since the pattern was exactly similar to IIFT 2012, it is expected that the IIFT 2013 cutoff will be similar to last year, which was around 50. “As per my assumption, the IIFT 2013 cutoff will be 45+, around 50,” states Srinivas.

what should be my Sectional cutoff in iift exam 2020
This is the sectional cutoff of IIFT exam 2020:
Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension 18-20
Quantitative Analysis 16-20
Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning 18-20
General Awareness (GK) 8-10
This sectional cutoff is for Delhi IIFT. So for other IIFTs it will be slightly lower.
Is iift consider your past academics record
- Hey, acccording to my opinion IIFT does not consider your past academics record . iift consider your good percentile WAT,PI and GD scores .if you are clear sectional cutoff and over all cutoff then you are eligible for shortlisted candidates .i think IIFT DELHI AND KOLKATA ARE THE GOOD CAMPUS . I THINK YOU SHOULD SCORES GOOD PERCENTILE THEN ACADEMIC RECORD DOES NOT MATTER FOR YOU FIRST YOU SHOULD GIVE TOTAL FOCUS TOWARD ENTRANCE EXAM.....
3.5 months are enough to crack CAT and IIFT exams ? Can anyone suggest me the study plan ? I am targetting maximum 97% in CAT and 145 marks in IIFT.
Sectional Division of Overall Preparation
Know your strengths along with weaknesses
Accept the importance of previous year question papers
Coaching or self-preparation
If you are preparing for CAT exam on a serious note, there won't be any problem preparing for IIFT too, provided you know the correct strategy for it! only the strategy of how you should play in the required format changes. So is the case with IIFT and other similar entrance exams apart from the CAT.
Firstly, from this year onwards, IIFT is conducted by NTA, so for the first time this year, IIFT will be conducted online just like any other MBA entrance exams! So there are two pros mainly I can think of -
- We don't have to spend our time circling the answers.
- We don't have to separately get accustomed to the paper based format from now.
This exam mainly consists of six sections -
- Reading Comprehension
- Verbal Ability
- Data Interpretation
- Logical Reasoning
- Quantitative Ability
Hope it helps
Thank you & Good Luck!!!
