Careers360: How did your family support you in achieving this feat?

Krutarth Patel: I had a good percentile last time, so they pushed me a little to settle down for any of the colleges but I wasn't able to crack any so they had to let me take another chance. But once I started again, they saw my hard work and supported me by pulling up all in with my efforts. Grabbing a position amongst the CMAT 2020 Topper definitely requires family support.

Overall: 99.65

Careers360: Why did you decide to take CMAT? Which are the B-schools you are targeting through the exam?

Krutarth Patel: Actually I took the exam for SIMSREE & JB but the dream still looks impossible to me. NIBM, GIM & KJ are other options although I have with me.

Careers360: When did you start preparing for CMAT and what was your strategy?

Krutarth Patel: I was preparing for CAT so there was nothing extra that I did. Particularly there was no fixed strategy that I followed. My major focus was on the weaker sections. I used to read lot of newspapers for GK. For VA, I tried to improve vocabulary through Norman Lewis and for other sections I was pretty natural and trusted my preparation.

Careers360: Did you opt for coaching? Do you think coaching is important to crack a competitive exam like CMAT?

Krutarth Patel: I gave CAT 2019 as along so I took an online Coaching that helped me a lot in excelling CMAT 2020.

Careers360: What was your strongest and weakest sections in CMAT?

Krutarth Patel: Coming from engineering background, I major area of focus for CMAT 2020 was the Data Interpretation and Quantitative Aptitude. I tried solving maximum questions from that section of CMAT 2020. So yes, I can say my strongest section was DI&QA. Whereas, one can never predict the type of questions from General Awareness section. Hence I can say that I was not sure 100% while solving some questions of GA section.

Careers360: How many mock tests did you take for CMAT?

Krutarth Patel: I can not ignore the advantages associated with Mock tests, but I didn't take any mocks. Preparing the syllabus along with solving the previous year question papers was my major focus for CMAT 2020.

Careers360: What was your exam day strategy and experience?

Krutarth Patel: With complete confidence in my preparation, I attempted all the 100 questions of CMAT 2020. However, at the back of my mind, I was a bit dicey about the GA section and took chance in some of the questions where I was not 100% sure but overall it was great. General Awareness section is something which you can never predict.

Careers360: Did you challenge any of the CMAT answer keys?

Krutarth Patel: To be called as CMAT 2020 Topper is not easy. I was very confident with my answers about CMAT 2020. So when the answer key was released by NTA along with the option to challenge it, I did not challenge any of the questions. Although, I too was confused between cabbage and papaya question that was a part of CMAT 2020 question paper.

Careers360: How are you preparing for the next rounds, such as GD, Essay Writing and PI?

Krutarth Patel: I try to read as much as I can. Project Syndicate, The Hindu, The wall Street journal everything. Daily newspapers, be it national or international are a great source of information and can help in preparation to extreme ends. One can meet both ends by reading newspapers effectively. Current events, general information on sports, education, entertainment, commerce, trade etc., can be helpful in all ways.

Careers360: Which B-schools have you been shortlisted by on the basis of other entrance examinations (if any)?

Krutarth Patel: I have been shortlisted for some of the B-Schools like Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Bengaluru, Symbiosis Institute of International Business & Institute of Rural Management Anand till now.

Careers360: What are your hobbies? Which activities were you involved in during your MBA entrance exam preparation phase to unwind?

Answer: I love to cook so that was something I used to do. Apart from that, I watch Rahul Subramanian & Vipul Goyal to bring down all the stress. I was into poetry so listened to Kumar Vishwaas as well.

Careers360: What is your dream career which you would like to pursue after completing an MBA?

Answer: I want to become an Equity Research Analyst.

Careers360: What is your message for the next year’s CMAT aspirants?

Answer: Try to cover up in GA other sections are pretty basic so just try to cover those up. If you’re already preparing for other exams then not much will be required. Aim for higher goals and believe that you can achieve it. Be confident about your preparation and excel.
