CAT 2018 Notification - IIM Calcutta has released the official CAT 2018 notification on July 29, 2018. Like every year, the official notification was released in all the national dailies. The exam CAT 2018 will be conducted on Sunday, November 25. As per the official CAT 2018 notification, the registration for CAT 2018 will start from August 8 and will continue until September 19.Prof. Sumanta Basu, the exam convener this year, has said that "Candidates will be given the option to select 4 test cities in order of preference. Cities and centres will be assigned to the candidates only after the last date for CAT 2018 registration and hence candidates need not rush to block slots and cities in the initial days of registration." CAT is the gateway to admission at 20 IIMs and over 100 B-schools across India. Last year, the CAT notification was released on July 30, 2017 and the exam was held on November 26, 2017.

The CAT 2018 Convenor Prof. Sumanta Basu has not mentioned any change regarding the CAT exam pattern or window. According to him, after the CAT committee reviews the past year’s CAT, they would take a decision on whether to introduce any change or not. CAT 2018 Exam Pattern
There are three sections in CAT on the basis of which candidates’ aptitude is tested. The three sections are Verbal and Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning and Quantitative Ability (QA). Each section is of 60 minutes duration making the total duration to be three hours or 180 minutes. The structure and pattern of the test is given in the table below.

The questions are objective, multiple choice type. Some of the questions are non-MCQs or Type in the answer (TITA) type. Each question carries three marks and for each wrong answer, there is negative marking of one mark. There is no negative marking scheme for non-MCQs and unattempted questions.
IIM Calcutta had conducted CAT earlier in the year 2011 and introduced several changes in the exam pattern. This year, the institute has kept the exam pattern same as last year.
This is the last year of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) to be the CAT testing partner as the five year contract is getting exhausted this year. Last year, out of 2,31,000 applications, as many as 1,99,632 candidates took the test which was conducted across 140 cities and 28 states across India.

You have to score a minimum of 99 percentile to get at least one good IIM call as your academics are not good. You could get a call from new IIMs if you score 99 percentile as the top tier IIMs will not give you a chance due to your poor acads.
Colleges you could look for are like IIM Nagpur, Kashipur, Shillong, etc. These colleges if you study well will provide you with a good package of 10-12 lpa.

You will not be able to get any good business school like top IIMs, MDI, IIFT, or FMS. However, you can still get a good MBA tier 3/4 college if you increase your percentile to 98 percentile.
However, according to your grads, you must not be disappointed if you don't get a call at 99 because your marks are not good.

Eligibility for CAT is graduate in any discipline from a recognized university with 50% aggregate, for SC/ST/PwD it's 45%.
So, people from any background can apply for CAT, provided they have required aggregate at their graduation level against their category.
Now, coming to the syllabus for CAT, there's no specific syllabus for CAT, one needs to rely on past years sample papers to get a fair idea about the pattern and weightage given to each topic and section.In general, questions are mostly from middle school level English and Mathematics.
There are mainly three sections in CAT-
Logical Reasoning & Data Interpretation which includes topics such as Tables, Graphs, Data Caselets, Seating Arrangement, Blood Relation, Syllogism etc.
Quantitative Aptitude which includes topics such as Geometry, Algebra, Time and Work, Mensuration, Number System etc.
Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension which includes topics such as Sentence completion, Questions based on reading comprehension, Para-jumbles & para-summar, inferences etc.
