CAT 2015 to be announced on July 26; IIMA planning single-day testing
Common Admission Test (CAT) 2015 notification for admission to prestigious Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) will be released on July 26, said CAT 2015 Convenor Dr. Tathagata Bandyopadhyay. IIM Ahmedabad is the organizing institution for CAT 2015.
The coveted MBA entrance exam is expected to be held in single-day, a further reduction in the testing window which was already reduced from 20-day in 2013 to 2-day last year.
Dr Tathagata Bandyopadhyay told Careers360 that IIM Ahmedabad has planned to reduce the testing window to ‘enhance operational efficiency’ of the exam. “For CAT 2015, at an operational level, we are planning to have it on a single-day in two-sessions rather than on two-days in four sessions like last year. This will help in enhancing operational efficiency,” the CAT 2015 Convenor said.
Last year CAT was held in a 2-day window, held on November 16 and November 22, 2014 respectively. CAT is the gateway for admissions to all Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) in India. Besides IIMs, around 100 top B-schools across India accept CAT scores for their admission procedure.
The CAT 2015 Convenor, though, didn’t share the exact number of seats available in IIMs for admission year 2016-18, he said that all operational IIM will participate in CAT 2015. “Since there are quite a few new IIMs that have been set up in the recent past, it would be difficult to give any number in terms of the total seats that would be available to applicants in IIMs,” he said, adding, “at present we have 13 IIMs and 6 more in the pipeline and it is expected that all the operational IIMs will conduct admission through CAT 2015.”
Last year, the total number of applicants and number of test takers in CAT 2014 was 1,96,988 and 1,67,830 respectively.
CAT 2014 was a computer based objective-type multiple-choice test with 100 questions from 2 sections - Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation and Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning. The duration of the test was 170 minutes or 2 hours 50 minutes.

See CAT stands for common admission test . It is a national exam which is held all over the India. It is the largest exam for MBA.
Whereas GMAT stands for The graduate management admission test. It is a global exam which is held across the nations for MBA.
It is easier to score in GMAT in comparison to CAT. If a person studies with full focus and concentration he can easily achieve 700+ marks.
