Excerpts of the Interview –

Careers360: Many Congratulations on cracking CAT with a perfect 100 percentile!
Maram Maheedhar: Thank you so much.

Careers360:Were you expecting the perfect score?
Maram Maheedhar: I was not very much sure about his, though I have put on my best and was wishing it to be good but that this much. I am happy that I was able to do this.

Careers360:Share your overall and sectional percentile.
Maram Maheedhar: VA percentile–99.99; QA percentile–99.99; and overall percentile–100.

Careers360:With the perfect 100, which B-schools are there in your wish list?
Maram Maheedhar: Grins… I know that being a fresher and no work experience, counts on me. Still, I wish to get an IIM-A seat, followed by IIM-B and if not these two then IIM-C.

Careers360:What is your academic background?
Maram Maheedhar: I am an eighth-semester student of Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. I have passed 10th and 12th form Vijayawada.

Careers360:You are now pursuing your engineering now, but such a success tells dedication towards management studies. What can be the possible reason for changing your career?
Maram Maheedhar: Yes, I am pursuing Engineering from the core branch from the prestigious IIT Delhi and have been offered a placement in Samsung Bangalore but I wish to go certainly for my MBA. My family and relatives who are in the same profession (Engineering) said that a MBA degree from the prestigious IIMs count while working for the big corporate houses.

After I have worked for a few years, say 5-6, I see myself as an entrepreneur.

Careers360:Did you adopt any perfect strategy for this perfect score?
Maram Maheedhar: I adopted a simple and well-known formula – Work Hard. Frankly saying, there was no such perfect strategy. Nor does any exist, it is just your hard and self-confidence that leads you to be the one.

Form the very first I was pretty confident regarding Quant and LR as I had practiced it since my school days. Moreover, I would like to mention my mother here, who is a gold medalist in Mathematics from Hyderabad Central University, who taught me the tricks of fast and accurate calculations.

At first, I was not confident about my vocabulary portion and VA; but I got hold of that by reading daily newspapers, watching English movies, consulting Oxford Dictionaries and increased by vocab power.

I did not have any routine study, though whenever I felt like studying, I did it satisfactorily and believed in my hard work.

On the D-Day; I first attempted Quant section, as I can do fast calculations, and then moved on to LR and at last VA. Time-management strategy was a part of this. Overall, I was keeping myself cool and was concentrating on attempting the paper with accuracy as much as I can.

Careers360:Did you take any coaching guidance for the most coveted exam?Do you think it is necessary to join coaching to crack CAT?
Maram Maheedhar: I did take coaching guidance a year back but left after 2-3 months. After that, I practiced myself taking help from newspapers and dictionaries and different practice seats.

Now, after bagging the 100 percentile, I feel coaching guides you only, the rest are upon you. You have to practice, perform and be the perfect. The 3 P’s always lead you to success.

Careers360:What did you do to relax yourself apart from preparation schedule? Do you watch movies? What was your recent one?
Maram Maheedhar: I am passionate about cricket. On every weekend, I play cricket. Even before the D-Day, I did play Cricket. I prefer cricket over watching movies. Recently, I watched PK.

Careers360:Your message to CAT aspirants.
Maram Maheedhar: Always believe in your inner-instincts. They are your inner-voice. Don’t stress yourself regarding preparing. Work-hard and devote yourself completely while studying. Work on your weak areas and focus on the stronger ones. It’s is indeed true that practice makes perfect. I have a first hand experience.
