CAT 2014: Quants easier than VA, reveals Careers360 prediction tool
As the first day of CAT 2014 concluded on 16 November 2014, the CAT 2014 result predictor tool of Careers360 revealed a reversed trend in difficulty level in the MBA Entrance exam as compared to previous years.
According to CAT 2014 takers on Day 1, Verbal section was a bit difficult than the Quant section this year.
A majority of the 10,000 test takers who used the CAT 2014 result predictor tool at the conclusion of Slot 1 found Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation easier compared to Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning section. More than 90% students participating in the prediction poll found Quants and DI to be easy to moderate in terms while just about 8% found the section to be difficult.
In case of Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning, roughly 84% of the users found the section to be easy to moderate while around 16% found it to be difficult.
The trend was followed in the second slot also, only with a slightly closer gap between the two sections. In slot 2 of CAT 2014 Day 1, while 6.38% test takers found Quants and DI to be difficult, around 9% found Verbals and LR to be on the difficult side. Similarly, while 93% of the users found Quants and DI easy to moderate, 90% voted Verbals and LR to be easier.
This is a the most definitive difference experienced by test takers of CAT2014 as Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation has, generally, been the tougher section of the two. Previous year, too, a majority of the test takers and experts had found the quantitative ability section to be on the harder side.

CAT2014 test takers who spoke to Careers360 after the first slot also shared similar reactions. Harshita, who appeared from Delhi said, “I had taken CAT last year as well but this year I found it tougher. Quant was tough but Logical Reasoning was the toughest section according to me.”
Deepika Parashar, a candidate for second slot of CAT 2014 said, “The Verbal Ability section was too lengthy. The Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning sections were tough too. Quant was interesting as it was neither too easy nor too difficult.”

Experts, too, echoed the reactions of the test takers. According to Career Launcher, one of the centres providing coaching on management related exam among others, in this year’s CAT examination, Quants section questions were possibly the easiest ever. The questions covered general topics like Number System, Algebra, Geometry and Modern Math, which were designed to test a student’s clarity of the basic problems.
As per the coaching centre in Verbal ability and LR, the trick was to aim for accuracy by correctly identifying the questions that the test taker was confident of solving correctly.
Regarding the new exam pattern, both experts and students said that CAT 2014 did not throw any challenges for the students.
Shalini Garg, a student from a centre in Mumbai said that the option to switch between the two sections helped her to manage the time better during the test. “The new pattern where we could switch through the sections reduced my stress a bit. Last year, the restriction of 70 minute for each of the two sections had really put me in crisis and I could not perform well,” she said.
The new exam pattern, launched this year includes three major changes i.e the number of questions have increased from 60 to 100, the duration of CAT has increased by 30 minutes I to 170 minutes and gives CAT takers the freedom to switch between the two sections without any restriction during the testing period.
The table below explains the new exam pattern of CAT 2014:
Number of Question
100 (50 per section)
Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation, Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning (not in particular order)
170 minutes or 2 hours and 50 minutes

95% in class 10 ,80.33 percentage in class 12 , 9.8 cgpa in graduation and 99.5+ percentile in CAT...is it enough to get a call from top IIM ?
Many Many Congratulations for such an outstanding scores in your exams and you have really performed very well in the Exams.
As you have asked for the top IIMs, with this much marks...First of all, I want to clear you that only CAT and graduation marks matters for them and rest all others are only for upgrading your CV profile during the call.
You have scored 99.5+ percentile in CAT, which is just excellent and surely you are going to get the calls from top IIMs for sure like IIM AHMEDABAD, IIM LUCKNOW, IIM BANGALORE, IIM CALCUTTA and many others.

I am providing you the link also where you can check all IIMs cut-offs for the final call to some student :

I have 95 percentage in class 10 , 82.4 in class 12, 9.8 CGPA in BTech Marine Engineering, if I get above 98 percentile in CAT can I get into top IIM ?
Congratulations on your great academic records. But sadly that will only give you an added advantage but will not guarantee you a seat in top IIM. Also you have mentioned top IIMs, but you have not mentioned whether you wish to persue MBA from the old ones like Ahmedabad,Bangalore,Calcutta or the comperatively newer Lucknow,Kozhikode,Indore.
Sadly if you are general and you being an engineer, you need atleast a 99.2+ %ile to get into any of them along with performing exceptionally well in WAT-PI.
The diversity factors will help you in improving your overall score and also help you in your interviews (I believe), but you need a very high percentile to get admission in the IIMs.
Hope this helps!
which subject I should start preparing first in cat
Your complete CAT paper is divided into three major sections :-
*Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR)
*Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC)
But, it's not like first you prepare for one section and then for other and then for the last one rather you should start preparing for all the three section at the same time and for that you will need to make a routine and devote time for all the three sections and give more time to the section which is your weak for example if your attitude is weak then give more time to it
After completing cat syllabus, go through
Solve previous year question papers of CAT :-it will let you know the examination pattern, type and difficulty level of questions, also concepts behind the question often gets repeated, so you should definitely solve year papers
*CAT mock test papers , it will let you know your preparation level and and weak areas so that you can work on them and perform well in your examination

last tym 67%result but this tym 55%na then I didnt have chance to get mbbs seat and i got 395 (sc) telangana state. cat a also no chance ha ???
It's quite difficult to predict that whether you will get seat or not as cut off marks/rank for medical colleges keeps changing every year depending upon various factors like number of students that appeared in the exam, kind of marks obtained by them , toughness level of the examination etc.
But when we go through previous data then it suggests that with 395 marks you hold a low chance to get a seat in A category seats i. e government quota seats in private medical college
In Neet 2019, the lowest marks that got a seat in government quota seat in a private medical college state quota was 407 marks for sc category and it was for MAHAVIR INST OF MED SCI, VIKARABAD
With your marks you have chances for management seats in private medical college and deemed universities
