Last year, CAT 2013 was announced on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 and the official notification was published in the national dailies on Sunday, July 28, 2014. The exam was conducted in a window of 20 days between October 16 and November 11, 2013. And the result was announced on Friday, January 14, 2014.

With IIM Indore officials expected to come out with notification very soon, important events like CAT 2014 exam dates, application window and result are likely to follow the timeline of CAT 2013.

IIM Indore is conducting CAT 2014 with TCS as testing partner this year. For past five years, Prometric was conducting the online test in coordination with different IIMs. In the year 2009, CAT was converted to computer based test from the traditional paper pencil based exam. After the completion of five years, the contract between IIMs and Prometric ended and Tata Consultancy Services will conduct the test for the next five years.

This is the first time that an IIM is conducting CAT for two consecutive years. Incidentally, Prof. Kapoor was the CAT Convener in 2013 as well. Commenting on this, he mentioned, “This was a collective decision taken by the 6 IIMs including IIM Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta, Lucknow, Indore and Kozhikode. Last year Prometric’s contract ended and this year it would be a new start with a new agency, hence the IIMs decided that it would be best for IIM Indore to continue this year as well.”

The total number of seats offered by the 13 IIMs is 3,335.

Note: As per the prediction made in the article, the CAT 2014 official notification has been declared on Sunday, July 27, 2014. The notification bears several changes in the application process, test conduct, timeline & schedule of the test. CAT 2014 will be held on 2 days in 4 slots on Sunday, November 16, 2014 and Saturday, November 22, 2014.

CAT 2013 highlights:

CAT 2013 was registered by 1.94 lakh candidates and the test was taken by 1.74 lakh candidates. In 2013 IIMs introduced online CAT Voucher sale. However, the national level MBA entrance exam for 13 IIMs and around 150 B-schools was ensued in controversy as around 95,000 candidates scored 0 or negative marks due to which candidates who attempted no questions were placed in 55 percentile bracket. Affected CAT 2013 takers filed Writ Petition which led the Indore High Court to send notice to all 13 IIMs, Ministry of HRD and CAT testing agency Prometric India Pvt. Ltd.

CAT is a computer based objective type and multiple choice question exam of 140 minutes duration. It has 2 sections and 60 questions, 30 in each section to be attempted within 70 minutes. The sections are Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation and Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning. Each question carries 4 marks and there is negative marking scheme of 1 mark for each wrong answer.

Deepshikha Student Expert 9th Apr, 2020
Hey,
College does not have a big role to play when it comes to placement. It's only a gateway for you to participate in the campus selection process. Colleges like Indian Institute of Management across India, TISS etcetra provide you with great opportunities. Big companies come here to hire students. So,you should try to score above 95-96 percentile to get into such colleges, after that your hardwork and dedication will help you get a good job.
Hope this helps.
Good luck.

Im a commerce student without maths can I clear the CAT exam .

ADIL KHAN Student Expert 8th Apr, 2020

Hii Abhinav,

Yes you for sure can but the amount of hard work you will have to put in will be more. The maths/quants part is pretty basic but is very tricky so it is tricks which you need to understand and apply.

CAT is an exam which tests your practicality and not how much you can learn by rote learning. You can start off by appearing for a mock test conducted free online and assess your performance that'll help you see and judge the areas you need improvement in and then decide if you need coaching or you can go on by yourself. You can either go for self study or Prepare with a tutor. For english prep. You can start off with Word Power Made easy, do this book twice, don't rush but read it and learn for 30-45 mins everyday. For Quants and LR-Di Arun sharma. Giving a mock a week and analyzing your strengths and weakness in terms of topics, score, percentile score and the time you are spending per question is really important.

Do take mocks religiously and you'll see how much it can affect your preparation in a positive manner.

Hii Biton,

Yes, there is a possibility for you as you belong to the SC category. But still there are  alot of factors taken into consideration while accessing your profile for giving a call for interviews bu top Business schools of India. You have a good chance provided you work on your communication skills and other skills. Also try doing internships and building your profile as these things will affect and may decide if you will be getting a call or not.

Hope it helps,

It is always better to read newspaper for CURRENT G.K. than trying to grasp all info at once. Some of the newspaper sources which you can use to prepare this section are The Hindu, Financial Express, and The Economist.

In case, you dont like reading newspaper daily, you can go with Manorama Yearbook or Current Affairs Yearly by Arihant for General Knowledge which is published every year.

In order to prepare for STATIC G.K. section, you need to broaden your overall scope in following sections: Sports, Politics, Entertainment, Biographies, etc. So, for this, you can use Static General Knowledge by A.P. Bhardwaj and S. Chands Advanced Objective General Knowledge. These books are okay to start with if you are not someone with a newspaper reading habit from the past.

There are plenty of other books for these topics in the market, but these are by far the most popular as well as helpful books for anyone preparing for entrance exams.

if i obtain 80 marks in quantitative aptitude 80 marks in data interpection and 80 marks in verbal reasoning what is my total percentile of cat because my 10th and 12 marks is low ?

Ankit Dahiya Student Expert 6th Apr, 2020
Hello,
Your CAT percentile has nothing to do with class X and XII marks.
The percentile indicates your performance relative to the other candidates. For example if you get 80 percentile it means your score is more than 80% of the appearing students.
The percentipe is calculated as:
P=(R/N) 100
where R=Rank of student and N=Number of students who appeared.
