CAT 2014 day 2 Analysis by VistaMind
CAT 2014 Analysis by VistaMind - Careers360 brings the CAT 2014 Analysis by VistaMind. The coaching centre has analysed the both the slot papers of CAT 2014 day 2. The CAT 2014 Analysis has been done in terms of paper pattern, common topics covered, and difficulty level of questions (easy/ moderate/difficult) of CAT 2014.
Following is the detailed analysis of CAT2014 by VistaMind:
The similarity of the paper across the four slots has given enough reasons to indicate that the paper was a fair for all students across slots. Having said that, the logical element of DI in slot 1 (Day 1 slot 1) and slot 4 (Day 2 Slot 2) would have made the two slots a bit more difficult that the other two slots. Also, the slot 3 questions (Day 2 Slot1) were probably the easiest as compared to the other three slots.

Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation
The Quantitative area had a fair mix of Algebra, Arithmetic, Numbers, Geometry and Pure Math. The CAT 2014 quant section paper can be termed as a very balanced paper in recent years. Any student with strong basics in Math (read 8th, 9thand 10thMath) would have found enough questions to solve - The reason why we believe that the students from the IITs & NITs would get a bit unfair advantage.
Data Interpretation area had a very good mix of logical sets as well as Calculation sets (Bar, Table, Scatter Diagram etc., ) and a well prepared student would have been able to attempt almost all the four sets in the paper. A good attempt in this section would be 30+ questions with an 80% accuracy.
Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning
The surprise element in Verbal Ability was two fold. First, there were no questions on Vocabulary or English usage. Second, there were quite a few questions on Critical Reasoning (CR). While CR was always expected, given that the section had 50 questions, the absence of questions from Vocab was a bit surprising!
The para jumbles and odd man out (of Para jumbles) were pretty simple in all slots (as deduced from the reaction of the students). The Reading Comprehension area also did not pose too many problems. The sets in Logical Reasoning (LR) were quite standard and any student with a fair bit of practice would have found the going easy in LR A good student would have attempts upwards of 30 questions with an accuracy of 75%.

If a final year student cracks CAT Or other MBA exams, Can he leave his classes of final year and start his mba classes?
Basically all the MBA colleges accept final years after there completion of there graduation, if you leave graduation in between then you wont get a certificate for that and you cant move to another college. So you need to complete the graduation first and then if you cracked any MBA exams then you can proceed for it from the next new session which will be starting from either June or August.
Eligibility for MBA-
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline be it technology, science, commerce, humanities, etc, from any recognized University or Institution of National importance.
Minimum percentage required in graduation degree is 50% as prescribed by most of the Universities/Institutes.
Final year candidates can also apply to apply for an MBA, but they have to provide their final graduation certificate within a specified time duration.
95% in class 10 ,80.33 percentage in class 12 , 9.8 cgpa in graduation and 99.5+ percentile in CAT...is it enough to get a call from top IIM ?
Many Many Congratulations for such an outstanding scores in your exams and you have really performed very well in the Exams.
As you have asked for the top IIMs, with this much marks...First of all, I want to clear you that only CAT and graduation marks matters for them and rest all others are only for upgrading your CV profile during the call.
You have scored 99.5+ percentile in CAT, which is just excellent and surely you are going to get the calls from top IIMs for sure like IIM AHMEDABAD, IIM LUCKNOW, IIM BANGALORE, IIM CALCUTTA and many others.
You have performed very well and in return of it, you are getting an excellent college out of it.
I am providing you the link also where you can check all IIMs cut-offs for the final call to some student :
Hope that my answer helped you!!
Good Luck and Best wishes for your Future!!

I have 95 percentage in class 10 , 82.4 in class 12, 9.8 CGPA in BTech Marine Engineering, if I get above 98 percentile in CAT can I get into top IIM ?
Congratulations on your great academic records. But sadly that will only give you an added advantage but will not guarantee you a seat in top IIM. Also you have mentioned top IIMs, but you have not mentioned whether you wish to persue MBA from the old ones like Ahmedabad,Bangalore,Calcutta or the comperatively newer Lucknow,Kozhikode,Indore.
Sadly if you are general and you being an engineer, you need atleast a 99.2+ %ile to get into any of them along with performing exceptionally well in WAT-PI.
The diversity factors will help you in improving your overall score and also help you in your interviews (I believe), but you need a very high percentile to get admission in the IIMs.
Hope this helps!
which subject I should start preparing first in cat
Your complete CAT paper is divided into three major sections :-
*Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR)
*Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC)
But, it's not like first you prepare for one section and then for other and then for the last one rather you should start preparing for all the three section at the same time and for that you will need to make a routine and devote time for all the three sections and give more time to the section which is your weak for example if your attitude is weak then give more time to it
After completing cat syllabus, go through
Solve previous year question papers of CAT :-it will let you know the examination pattern, type and difficulty level of questions, also concepts behind the question often gets repeated, so you should definitely solve year papers
*CAT mock test papers , it will let you know your preparation level and and weak areas so that you can work on them and perform well in your examination
