It’s official now. The final number of CAT 2013 Registration has dropped below 1.95 lakh, making your chances better to get into IIMs and other top B-schools.
According to the official data shared with Careers360.com by CAT Convenor Prof Rohit Kapoor, the total number of applicants for CAT 2013 has reduced by over 10,000 despite the number of seats at IIM going up from 3220 in 2012 to 3335 this year.

“A total of 1,94, 514 candidates registered for CAT 2013,” Prof Kapoor told Careers360.com. About 1,500 candidates who bought Cat voucher did not register for the exam, he said adding, the online voucher sale facility launched this year received very encouraging response with more than 58 per cent of the candidates buying the CAT voucher through online mode. While the final number of CAT registration might bring cold feet to the B-schools as they may get lesser number of applications as a result of low CAT registration, the lesser number of candidates for CAT brings cheers to IIM aspirants for whom completion is now easier. While the number of seats at IIM has increased over the years, the application numbers have declined over last five years except a few exceptions of slight increase in the numbers. The changing dynamics of number of available seats per applicants has accordingly shifted in favour of IIM aspirants. As the numbers of CAT 2013 registration comes down to a record level and number of available seats at IIM going up by more than 100 this year, the chance of CAT taker to get into an IIM looks brightest in last few years.
According to the official data, the availability of seats per 1000 applicants has increased from 11 in 2010 to 17 this year.
